Bandages (gauze) is used to patch a cut, scrape, or gash in your skin.

Used to help your body repair your skin by stopping dirt and bacteria from getting into the cut.

Not only used for a cut on the finger…

What are bandages for?

Sometimes cuts can be small…

Sometimes cuts can be large…

Slings are used to keep a broken arm in place until a doctor can brace it properly so it can heal.

Meant to help the person relax. NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR GOING TO THE

DOCTOR.

Slings for broken arms/collarbones

Bones healing improperly (irregularly) look like this:

Applying slings:

•Applying slings properly depends on the type of injury.

A break to the humerus, radius, or ulna will requirea sling. Must keep the person’sarm from moving as little as possible. Prevents further damage.

Broken arm bones

Broken arm bones•Take a triangular piece of cloth that is large.

•Place one corner near the person’s elbow and drop the other two corners on either side of the arm.

•Bring the hanging corners up around the person’s neck and tie it tightly.

•Twist the corner near the elbow and tuck the remaining cloth into the sling.

More damaging because this bone gains pressure from shoulder movement.

Any shoulder movement at all will cause pain.

Broken Collarbone

Broken Collarbone•Same method for a broken collarbone.

•Take a triangular piece of cloth and place one point to the elbow.

•One point goes to the shoulder.

•One point to the hip.

•Wrap the point at the hip around the opposite shoulder and tie behind the neck.
