India around 1500 BC.The Aryans had a dramatic influence
on Indian culture and future Indian civilizations.
Aryan religious beliefs and practices went on to form the basis of Hinduism.

Varna is caste on the basis of position in the society .
Varnas are four in numberBrahmans,
kshatriyas, vaishyas and shudras
Four-fold division based on the profession and the grades of respectability
Jati is a sub-casteParticular community
with a definition on customs by and large, having a particular profession hereditarily and, inclusive marriage rights
Hinduism goals…4 goals: 3 affirming, 1 negatingAffirming:
Darma (virtue): duties and obligations in caste
Artha (success): strive to be successful in activities of their lives
Kama (pleasure): aesthetic pleasure- music, drama, dance, painting, sculpture, etc…
Hinduism Goals (cont.)…Moksha
The striving for the release of life.Initiated by turning away from the 3 life affirming goals.
Requires one to become a hermit, and spend time in ones time in contemplation.
