Page 2: Performance testing

What is it?

• Testing performed to determine how a system performs in terms of responsiveness and stability under a particular workload.

Page 3: Performance testing

Testing Types

• Load (Ex: Benchmarking)

• Stress (AKA “burn-in”)

• Soak

• Spike

• Configuration

• Isolation

Why Stress or Load Test

• Reliability, Scalability, and Resource Usage.

• It's best to uncover unstable components sooner rather than later, while they're still under warranty.

• It can also inform you if you need additional cooling!

Load Test vs. Stress Test

• While both of these tests determine how a system performs under a workload,

load testing understand the behavior of the system under a specific expected load as opposed to stress testing which determines the systems robustness in terms of extremeloads.

Prime95

For overclockers, Prime95 has a feature called "Torture Test" that allows maximum stress testing on the CPU and RAM. There are several options allowing the stress test to focus on the memory, processor, or a balance of both.
