Biffy Clyro- Bubbles

Camera

The first camera shot used was a close up . This let us clearly see his face , we could also see him singing into the microphone to let the audience know it’s a performance music video. A close up is also used again to show the guitar .

There also a tracking shot present . We can always see the drummer behind the lead singers shoulder every time the shot of the artist singing takes place.

There is also an establishing shot which we can see the setting in where the performance takes place and it appears to be in a dark un lit room .

Mise-en-sceneThe costume used was very casual .Every one in the band has a t shirt and jeans ,and this shows that they are all very relaxed .The props used are all of the instruments used to produce the song . For example there are many shots throughout the video which clearly show the drums , guitar and the microphone .

The setting is very dim , and the darkness almost covers the artists face. This could have been used to add a sense of mystery to where the location actually is.

There are many colours also present throughout the video , I could see red, yellow and blue. All these colours add to the whole scene of the music video and make the audience ask questions and wonder why this has been added.

During the music video there is a beam of light in every shot. I noticed this mainly happen when the artist is singing into the microphone , when he is performing a light is added to block our the audiences view almost as if the director wanted the audience to feel like they are missing out if they do not carry on watching.

I believe that the lighting is very important to this video. The light is changing all the time , whether its from the sun beaming in the background , to the lights on the ceiling or from anywhere around the setting.

Editing

In the video there was evidence of a jump cut. This appeared at the end and every time the drums got louder the video cut to different scenes and back to the previous.

Every time the drums were hit the lights also started to flicker which is an effective way to keep the audience entertained.

Near to the end as the music got faster , everything got faster and then silent , then at the end the light is made to look as if its exploded .

As this was a performance music video , the editing is normally quite simple as there is no narrative behind it so there does not need to be numerous scenes. Continuity editing allows a smooth and natural video like this one to look very realistic .

Sound

Towards the end of the video the sound of the music is heightened to create a dramatic effect. The drums get louder and more intense and as this is happening everything in the shot appears to start to shake. The director may have used this to show the intensity of the performance and allow the audience to feel a sense of the music. The build up of sound creates extreme tension and makes the performance seem very successful.
