Pentecost Sunday June 4, 2017

Fr. Ben’s Message:

June is a month of blessing. This weekend we

will bless the graduates. Next weekend, we

will bless all married couples. The 3rd weekend

we will bless Fathers and the last weekend of

the month, Fr. David will bless all new drivers.

Today, we celebrate Pentecost, the coming of

the Holy Spirit and the beginning of the

Church. Babies cry out at birth. At the coming

of the Holy Spirit, the apostles cry out in

different languages. The people understood

them.

In the early 90s my mother, then in her 70s,

went to El Salvador as part of a peace keeping

mission. When she returned she spoke of her

experience and conversations with the El

Salvadoran women. I said, “Mom, how did

you communicate? You don’t speak Spanish?

Did you wear a translator out?” (The woman

talked a lot). “No” she replied, “We spoke

Mother”. “I helped a young mother knit

booties for her baby.” “I smiled, greeted

people, and offered encouragement and love.”

“I spoke Mother”.

Today, we celebrate the beginning of Mother

Church. To the class of 2017 – “Learn to speak

Mother.”

Peace & All Good,

Fr. Ben

Congratulations on your Golden Anniversary!

Juan & Lilia Diego

This week’s anonymous love story:

He loves me in a thousand little ways; none of

them showy or obvious to others – the way he

always brings me a glass of OJ while in the midst

of my morning routine, and the apple he cuts for

my mid-morning snack; how important it is that we

snuggle at night even when sleeping in his recliner

would be more comfortable. And then there’s the

frugal side of his love: like the way we celebrate

Mother’s Day – when others are going out for a

fancy brunch, we partake in the $5 lunch at the

Dairy Queen. You know, the tiny burger, mini

serving of fries and dessert? This year we

celebrated 36-years of married bliss. There’s

been a lot of “ups and downs” in all those years.

So, he went all out; we feasted on Costco Dogs

and shared a sundae!

idiomas. La gente les entendió.

En los años 90s, mi madre a sus 70 años, fue al

Salvador como parte de una misión para

mantener la paz. Cuando regresó ella habló de

su experiencia y conversaciones con las

mujeres del Salvador. Yo dije, "mamá, ¿cómo

te comunicaste? ¿No hablas español? ¿Usaste

un traductor?" (La mama del Padre Ben

hablaba mucho). Ella respondió NO:

madre."

Paz y todo bien,

Padre Ben
