Hello Fellow Painters! Thank You to Pat Meyers and Dottie Shultz for wonderful paint-in’s. Our projects came out so cute,

I just loved them all. Looking ahead to next year we need submissions for Paint-Ins at the November meeting, so that

we may vote on what projects we would like to paint. Remember if you are going to teach from an artist you must have written permission to teach her art work.

Have a great painting day!!

Joyce

President’s Message

These past 2 years have been an amazing time for me, thanks to you letting me be your pres-ident. At the same time, I am looking forward to a time of recharging batteries – both my own and that of the collective us, Penns Woods Painters. Dee DeLorenzo provided a great variety of programs for us this year – Jane’s ornament, Pen-ny’s mixed media, Fran’s watercolor and our ‘Paint with Friends’ session! If you have sugges-tions for our meeting schedules, or programs, please give your ideas to Dee and Joyce. While I can’t promise that your ideas will be implemented, I can promise that they will be dis-cussed and evaluated. I’m hoping that as we move into 2014, your batteries will be re-charged and we’ll see more of you at our 2014 meetings and enjoying our programs. The 2014 calendar is included in this newsletter – mark the dates for our meetings on your calen-dars now! I am glad that we were able to have all 3 Paint-Ins this year. Thanks to Amy, Dottie and Pat for teaching at our 2013 Paint-Ins and to Joyce and Hattie for coordinating the Paint-Ins! Re-member, at the November meeting, we will have the chance to select our Paint-In projects for 2014. Please remember that if you are submitting a project for Paint-In consideration, to bring the project to the November meeting! I am hoping that we have a nice variety of projects that will spark your interests, and encourage you to put those dates on your calendars too! Our Sharon Buononato seminar is a bargain – literally about half the price of a ‘normal’ semi-nar! Despite the break in the cost, though, we struggled to reach our minimum number of folks needed to cover the costs. Thanks to Linda Kapp, and her committee for the success of our 2013 seminars – good job, ladies! PWP is not looking to make any money on these semi-nars, only to cover our costs. We do not want to have to cancel seminars since we do not want to be perceived as undependable. If you have artists you would like us to consider, you need to provide those names to your Seminar committee (Linda Kapp is the chair). Again, I can’t promise that your ‘artist of choice’ will actually be here for a seminar, but I am confident that the committee will consider all suggested artists. As I write this, we do not have any seminars scheduled for 2014; perhaps if we have a break for a year, you’ll be more interested in future seminars? As I move out of this role, I also want to thank Barb Lehman, Bobbi Brady, Lois Eckert, Sue Wenning, Wendy Beckmann and Joyce Gutierrez for their contributions to our chapter over this past year. Thank you, too, to our members who have been able to join us throughout this past year for our meetings, Paint-Ins, Seminars and Field Trips. I hope that you continue to join us in 2014 and beyond! Please be reminded that, at our November meeting, we will be voting our 2014 slate of offic-ers. I trust that we will have enough members present to have a quorum so we can vote for our 2014 officers. We need 16 members to vote. I know how hard your nominating commit-tee worked to put our 2014 slate together for you. Thanks to Sue Wenning, Penny Henry, Wendy Beckmann, Joyce Gutierrez for their work on that committee. Bye for now…Hilary Felinski, [email protected],

Santa’s Soldiers!

A group of Penns Woods Painters (PWP), near Harrisburg, PA, gathered recently to help one of their members with a project for her grandson who is currently serving in Afghanistan. Rose Bellavia wanted to spread Christmas (Holiday) cheer to her grandson and to his unit and asked for help from PWP members who she sees regularly while painting ornaments monthly. As you can imagine, the ‘ornament class’ gals were more than willing to help. So, the group gathered together on a Monday this past October to help Rose with her mis-sion. The mission was to paint Christmas Ornaments “Santa Soldiers” (see attached picture) for her grandson’s entire unit. While not everyone was able to make that Monday evening, and painted some at home, a majority of the more than 30 ornaments were completed that night. A loving grandmother’s mission has been accomplished and the ornaments are painted and ready to fly to Afghanistan just in time for the 2013 Holiday Season! And a grateful group of painters were able to say ‘thank you’ to some of our soldiers in a very unique way. Thank you, Rose, for inviting us to help with this mission! Rose also says thank you to all who helped paint the ornaments for Christian’s unit. It’s little something extra from home!

Thanks to all who have and who are serving in our armed forces. Every day, we thank you for

our Freedom!

Seminars Report: As you are reading this newsletter, we are preparing for our last seminar of 2013 with Sharon Buononato on November 8, 9 and 10. There are still seats available if you are interested in joining us, just give me a call. As we look to 2014, our seminar calendar is blank. The leads that I was given, unfortunately, didn’t lead to anything being scheduled. For 2014, the commit-tee will be organizing field trips to our chapters in MASCC. There are wonder-ing seminars happening and we can support these seminars in 2014. Here are the seminars for the first half of 2014: 1/31/ - 2/1/2014 Brenda Stewart @ Old Dominion 3/22/2014 Amy Mogish @ Lehigh Valley 4/4 – 4/5/2014 Kathy George @ Old Dominion 4/26 – 4/27/2014 Chris Haughey @ Pocono 5/3 – 5/4/2014 Sandy Scales teaching Betty Caithness @ S. MD 6/13 – 6/14/2014 Ros Stalcup @ Old Dominion Please call or email Linda Kapp if you have interested in attending a seminar listed above with a few other PWP Painters. At that point, the committee will research and put together pricing to attend the seminar. Also, if you are interested in joining or co-chairing the 2014 Seminar Committee, please contact me. We need your help in filling our seminar schedule for 2015. Linda Kapp

*Programs – November meeting program is an Ornament Exchange. Ornaments are to be wrapped. Dee DeLorenzo reported that the 2014 programs are almost complete. She also offered the idea of phone trees to help remind members and hopefully boost attendance. Vol-unteers to participate in the Phone trees would be needed. Contact Dee. Fran Huffman vol-unteered. Email reminders about the meetings will also be sent after the newsletter and be-fore the meeting. A reminder was offered regarding the meeting times for both Saturday morning and Monday evening meetings. *Membership – Barb Lehman reported that PWP has had 7 2014 renewals as of 9/21/2013 *Committee Reports since the newsletter was published:

Newsletter – Sue Wenning reported that Wendy Beckmann has volunteered to do the newsletter for 2014. Wendy mentioned that she will be setting stricter deadlines and that if the information is not received on time, it will not be included. 3. Nominating Committee – Slate has been published in the September newsletter. Reminder that a quorum of members (minimum of 20) must be present to vote at the November meeting. 4. 2013 Paint Ins – Joyce Gutierrez reported that the minimum number of folks have registered for the October Paint In, taught by Pat Meyers. 5. 2014 Paint Ins – Joyce Gutierrez reported that Hattie Ogle will be chairing the Paint In committee. 7. Seminars – If the folks who have said they are going to register for the Sharon B seminar send their checks in, we will go ahead with the seminar. If we, as members, cannot support our seminars, we may not be able to have seminars going forward. If you have a suggestion for a seminar teacher, you are reminded to provide that name to the Seminar chair/committee. We will continue to work with other chapters to coordinate seminars to help re-duce both redundancy and costs. 8. Treasure Boxes – Lois Eckert reported that 13 boxes were delivered to Caitlin’s Smiles at a value of $150.00. Lois read part of a Thank you note that was received from Caitlin’s Smiles for our donation. 9. Ways and Means – Hilary Felinski reported that there have been 2 sales via the Rada cutlery fundraiser. She repeated the encouragement to consider purchasing these items. The fundraiser may be open for as long as a year. 10. Web Page – Hilary also reported that the new web page is up and available. Please check it out and send her comments, questions, suggestions.

* Other Discussions: For 2014, the dates for HOOT are 8/11 through 8/16. Request was made to change the scheduled Paint In from the 16

th to another week. Board will consider.

Discussion on why the tea was cancelled. Attendees were reminded that there was Board decision to cancel if the minimum number of confirmed attendees was not reached. We did not have the minimum number of members (and guests) who had committed to attend the Art Show/Tea. Seminar Discussion: about which artists are being contacted regarding seminars, with an emphasis on those who are ‘near by’. The committee has been working on making contact to various artists, and their schedules for 2014 are already booked. We are also looking at 2015 for possible semi-nars. Acknowledged that this year’s seminar committee did not have the advantage of having 2014 seminars already scheduled. Discussion also about how the seminar artists are chosen. If you have an artist in mind, you are reminded to provide the Seminar Chair with that information. Need to be careful about cancelling seminars or artists will consider us a risky enterprise. Discussion on newsletters: Paper copies of September newsletters were not mailed in a timely man-ner. Reminder that, if you have a problem or question about the newsletter, to contact Hilary. Electronic Access: Board members have been asked to ‘buddy’ up with those members who need paper copies of information. *Announcements: Hilary Felinski reminded members to support ‘local’ shops such as Steph’s, Pampered Palette, Re-becca Baer, Painter’s Paradise and Heirlooms from the Heart. Several of the shops have joined in a cooperative effort to encourage painters to attend classes/seminars at all of their shops, with a chance to win a free one day seminar. Jamie Mills Price will be at Steph’s next year- if you are inter-ested, call Steph’s and put your name on the list. November meeting: Monday, November 18. Doors open at 6:00, meeting at 6:30 and program

(wrapped ornament exchange) to start at 7:00.
