The Peninsula Performing Arts Academy provides a variety of choices of performance arts to all ages! Our Academy focuses on three mediums: Theatre, Dance & Music.

6 months - 4 yearsFor the youngest participants we have our “Exploring Movement” classes. These classes are designed to engage parents & children in a positive, fun & active experience. If you & your child are interested in music, be sure to check-out our “Music - Exploring Together!” course located with the Music Program.

3 years - 6 yearsAt age 3, children are eligible to join our progression based educational arts programs. Students ages 3-6 can work on their balance & coordination with our Level I dance classes. These courses are traditionally some of our most popular courses and they focus on the introduction to various dance mediums, including: creative movement, ballet, tap, and hip-hop.

6 years - 14 yearsStudents can further develop their dance technique in ballet, tap, or hip-hop. Through our Theater program, students can participate in a performing piece that integrates vocal music, dance and theatre arts. The “American Musical Showcase” class is an interactive and popular program that performs well-known Broadway shows quarterly. Students enrolled in most Level I dance programs or above will participate alongside the theater students to make the show truly the culminating center of the performing arts academy. Children may repeat our classes as new concepts & materials will continue to be introduced.

At age 6, students can enroll for private guitar, piano, violin, or vocal lessons held weekly at Peninsula at an incredible value.

14 years & upFor our students who are 14 & up, we offer a variety of courses in every category. Classes include: Guitar, Ballet, Tap and Theatre. In addition the center offers a wide variety of adult fitness courses and courses designed for both parent & child to attend.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us!

If you want to stay fit and active during the long Portland winter, Friends of Peninsula Park Rose Garden can keep you busy! Winter is a perfect time to participate in behind-the-scenes work that helps keep the Rose Garden healthy in the dormant season and sets the stage for beautiful summer blooming.

We’ve planned everything from pruning classes to planting new donated roses for the slopes. And the best part is that no special expertise is needed. You’ll be able to join our friendly volunteer crew, meet the Park’s horticultural staff and learn how giving just a few hours to the Rose Garden goes a long way in our combined efforts to keep this historic gem in peak condition.

As this Winter Guide goes to press, we are working with the Park’s staff to select the best 2015 days for the monthly activities, but here’s a brief look at what is planned and open to all volunteers:

January 2015Free Climbing Roses Pruning WorkshopPreparing new roses for planting

February 2015Winter pruning of Garden rosesPlanting new roses

March 2015Free Myth Busters Rose Class

For more information about volunteering at Peninsula Park Rose Garden and to get the latest winter calendar updates, please email [email protected]. You can also find 2015 Rose Garden updates at facebook.com/penrosefriends or by following Peninsula Park Community Center on Face Book.

Hope to see you in the Garden soon!

Within the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) of 1990, Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) provides accommodations to individuals with disabilities/special needs, so that they may receive an equal opportunity to participate in pro-grams offered citywide.

1. Choose the activity you would like to par-ticipate in, and then the PP&R site where the activity is being offered.

2. Register for the activity. You can do this in person at a PP&R site, or on-line at www.PortlandParks.org. When registering, let the person know that you will need accommoda-tions in order to participate in the activity (online, check the box.)

3. Once registered, please contact Inclusion Services at 503-823-4328. If this is your first accommodation through Inclusion Services you will need to do a phone intake with a staff member. At the end of the phone intake, it will be determined whether an assistant will be needed on the first day of the activ-ity to provide on-site support. Future assis-tance will be provided based on need. The inclusion staff will work with the instructor on how to support you and your individual needs.

A general program may be adapted using auxil-iary aids and services, but the basic structure of the program remains the same. Accommodations are made as needed, and can be flexible and creative. Participants need to register for activities that are intended for their birth age. Personal care is provided for activities in the pre-school and youth category, up through age 12.

If you have questions about Inclusion Services, please call 503-823-4328 V/TTY. A minimum of 10 business days (Monday-Friday) advance notice is required. The Inclusion Services staff will do their best to accommodate each participant.
