Greetings Union Meeting. Next Thursday 8 th we ask that children stay at home until 11.00 a.m. Most staff will be at the Union Meeting. This meeting involves all teachers and support staff in all schools. We will have one staff member at school to supervise any children who do come to school before 11.00. Normal classes will resume then. Why are teachers meeting? Teachers are meeting to discuss proposed staffing and funding changes for schools as part of the Government review. It is of concern that the proposed changes are likely to put Principals and Boards of Trustees in the position of having to increase class sizes in order to pay for the basics. Teachers are meeting to discuss this, oppose the changes and call for the review to address the underfunding of education, especially special needs students and Early Childhood. We will be seeking better funding. Please send your children to school at 11.00 a.m. on Thursday 8 th September. There will be no subway orders next week. Tongan Language Week Next week is Tongan Language week. A small group of our students will be performing at the Library next Thursday at 10.00 as part of these celebrations. Concerns and Complaints. It is great to have had a few people come to me with issues their children are having at school. It has given me an opportunity to sort these out at an early stage. There are times when a complaint is made when the parents or children dont agree with the outcome. We do our best to get to the bottom of issues and follow a fair process. Please make sure you go to teachers early if there is an issue arising. This is the first step in our process. It is even better if your child can let a teacher or myself know before they go home as following up on issues a day later poses further issues. Toys at School. (Star wars cards) Please make sure all toys are left at home. At school we want to spend our time focussing on teaching and learning not looking for lost or stolen toys. There have been a few issues arising over Star Wars cards and their ownership. If children wish to trade them then please do this outside of school time. Celebrations I would like to celebrate the great efforts being put into our production. Our great show is to be held on Tuesday 13 th 1.00 p.m and 6.00 p.m. Please make sure you can have your child at the Opera House on the evening of the 13 th for our final performance. Tickets to both shows on sale at the school office. $2 per ticket. Tickets not required for the children in the show.
