Nora Hildebrandt is known for
being the rst professionally
taooed women in America. This -
tle is mostly due to her father. Origi-
nally from Germany, Marn Hilde-brandt was America’s rst profes-
sional taoo arsts. With most of his
clients being Civil War sailors and
soldiers from both
sides, Nora oen
stood in as a can-
vas when they
were not receiving
taoos. Marn set
up a taoo shop
in New York in
1846. Nora was
then born some-
me in the 1850’s.
By the 1880’s
Nora was covered
in ink from neck
to toe. It was reported that she had
over 365 taoo designs. In 1882 she
started to exhibit herself. She pri-
marily toured with Barnum & Bailey
Circus throughout the 1890’s. Inial-
ly, she borrowed heavily from the
embellished origins laid out by the
taooed men of years past like John
Rutherford and Captain Consten-
tenus. In her conal biography,
Nora stated that she and her father
were originally forcibly taooed byAmerican Indians. According to her
story, she was taooed daily for an
enre year, while ed to a tree. At
one point, she even
claimed that Sing
Bull was involved in
her torture. Nora’s
fabricated tale proved
to entertain audienc-
es but she eventually
discounted it and re-
galed audiences in-
stead with the de-
tails of the work done
by her father
while displaying her
body for all to see.
She proved a very popular aracon
among men. However her fame was
rather short lived as another arac-
ve taooed lady debuted shortly
aer her. Irene Woodward quickly
eclipsed Nora’s spotlight and Nora’s
exact fate is sll lost to history.

I like to think of my
tattoos as a puzzle, and
I am slowly putting it all
together...piece by
piece.
Often called Bunz, Nunu Black has elevated the idea of
a beautiful women with tattoos. Since her first photo
shoot it has been very evident that she in on her way to com-
plete stardom. Hailing from the Atlanta, Georgia, Nunu’s tat-
toos combine the elements of creativity and art. Although her
tattoos are often deemed “girly”, the bold designs and deep
details of her ink still manages to turn many heads.
“I feel like tattoos on women are a mixture of how they
want to be portrayed as well as how they view themselves
personally. I don't have many words on me, however the
words I do have are words or phrases that mean a lot to

me. I absolutely love butterflies. My first tattoo was actually a
butterfly that I wanted to get in memory of one of my best
friends that died while we were in high school. I like to think of my tattoos as a puzzle, and I am slowly putting it all togeth-
er...piece by piece.
Nunu is just getting started. Her hard work and dedication has
made her a leader within the company. She was one of the
very first Ladies of Ink and also participated in the very first of-
ficial Pecado Ink photo shoot. With the diverse fan base that
the “Ladies of Ink” have acquired, many people are looking
forward to seeing much more from these unique women..

T he Ancient
Aztec Tattoo
has become
more and
more popular amongst
todays “ink” lovers. Most Aztec tattoos are
very easily recognized
as they usually are
bright colored andhighly detailed. This is
a reflection of the an-
cient Aztec craftsmen
who were very skilledat composing their art.
The Aztec culture was
strongly exposed in the
rich quality of their
art, especially in the
fifteenth and sixteenth
centuries when their
empire was at its
height. However, the
Spanish conquerorsdestroyed their culture
as they only focused
on opposing their reli-
gious practices. Today it seems as if their art
and culture in more
appreciated as their
very unique style hasgained a lot of atten-
tion from people that
have a passion for tat-
toos or just art itself.

“I would be lying if I said it was easy. I would also
be lying if I said all of the hardship was not worth
it. Nobody will ever see your vision as clear as you.
But when you show others that you are serious
about what you do then your performance and
actions will speak more volume than you could
ever get across by an explanation. There is going to
always come a time when someone is going to
depend on you. The feeling of knowing that you
are not failing those who do depend on you makes
everything a lot easier. Stay proactive and
productive...there is no success without sacrifice.
God Bless.
