So Abraham built an altar to the Lord, who had appeared to him (Genesis 12:7).

Here for the first time you see that though the holy patriarch is an exile and a so-journer, nevertheless, on account of the promise made to his seed, he gives consideration to a defi-nite habitation. Now for the first time he builds an altar to the Lord, who had appeared to him. That is, he appoints a definite place where the church should come together to hear the Word of God, offer prayers, praise God, and bring sacrifices to God; for this is what it means to build an al-tar.

Abraham builds an altar; that is, he himself is the bishop or priest, and he himself teaches the oth-ers and gives them instruction about the true worship of God. This must be the one purpose both of altars and of temples, that those who gather there hear the Word of God, pray, give thanks to God, praise God, and carry out those forms of worship which He has commanded. Where these ac-tivities aren’t present, there altars and temples are nothing but workshops of idolatry, of which the papacy is full; for the true forms of worship are disregarded, and meanwhile the entire wor-ship is devoted to the blasphemous and ungodly sacrifice of the Mass.

...for it is the Word by which all things are consecrated (1 Timothy 4:5).

Stonehaven Expansion Update

As of April 30th, we are at 71% completion for the entire project and are on target for construc-tion to be completed by July 6th for the church wing, ECLC wing, and the site work.

School Wing The school wing was not turned over to Peace the end of April as scheduled. The final inspection was completed and the 60 item punch list was completed and turned over to Peace last month.

Church Wing We are on schedule for all construction to be completed by July 6th. Currently we expect that the punch list items will be completed by July 13th.

ECLC Wing We are on schedule for all construction to be completed by July 6th and expect most of the punch list items to be completed by July 6th with a few stragglers carrying over to July 13th.

Site Work The schedule called for all the site work to be completed by June 29th. However, in early May the final grading was delayed 10 days due to the heavy rains. The weather continues to plague us, first with the extreme cold weather, then with heavy snow followed by lots of rain in April and May. When this update was written our best estimate is that the site work won't finish until July 6th.

Construction Cleaning Special thanks to the 22 brave individuals who participated in the cleaning on May 12th in the cold weather, mud, and water puddles with the exterior cleaning of the areas around the church and ECLC wings. Who said that mud and water is only for the kids!

The Construction Cleaning #7 for the inside of the ECLC Wing is planned for June 2nd and Con-struction Cleaning #8 for the church wing is June 9th. If you have not had the thrill of participat-ing in one of these cleanings, please volunteer. Watch your emails for more information on these cleanings and watch the School Expansion Bulletin Board for more information on the need for volunteers in July to help move from Windsor Street to Stonehaven Campus.

PAGE 3 PEACE CONNECTION

There have been many excit-ing things happening at the Stonehaven campus, and we are nearing the end of con-struction activities. There have been many planning ses-sions between various com-mittees and councils to suc-cessfully plan for the full tran-sition to the new campus.

One portion of this planning involves transitioning wor-ship services to the Stonehaven campus, and we are ready to share the time-line.

We plan a celebration service at the Windsor campus on July 22 to thank God for the many years that the church building has served Peace Congregation.

At the Stonehaven campus, we will have a Dedication Sunday on September 9 to

officially ask God’s blessings on the new space our congre-gation will call home.

In between, we will start wor-shipping in the new space on Monday, July 30 and Sunday, August 5. To provide ade-quate time between services, we will be returning to 8:00 and 10:30 Sunday morning worship times starting on Au-gust 5.

An area where we will be looking for broader congrega-tional help will be the after-noon of July 29 in which we will have a dry run of a wor-ship service. While we have hired sound engineers to sim-ulate acoustics in the new worship space, the dry run will look to test sound quali-ties in the worship space when we have a larger num-ber of people. We will be also

testing various ushering du-ties and communion styles.

The Board of Elders has been discussing the idea of bringing back table-style Communion instead of single-file Com-munion. With the new wor-ship space, we are thinking that the space is wide enough to efficiently provide this op-tion, thus allowing the family of believers to stand side-by-side as we receive the Lord’s Supper. However, we want to test this before introducing it in a worship service.

Below is a schedule pertain-ing to worship/church transi-tions to the new facility.

Board of Elders: Worship Transition

June-July service times – 8:00/9:30 Sunday morning; 6:30 Monday night

July 8 - Final service with full sound system

July 14 - Moving day of pastors’ offices and other church items to the Stonehaven campus

Mid-July (TBD) – Worship Service Dry Run #1 between Pastors, Elders, Ushers, Or ganists

July 22 – Celebration service at Windsor – No Communion; Last Windsor service with the organ

July 29 (Morning) – Last Communion at Windsor campus

July 29 (Sunday Afternoon) - Worship service Dry Run #2 with volunteer congrega tion

July 30 (Monday night) - First worship service at Stonehaven

August 5 - First Sunday morning service at Stonehaven; service times moved to 8:00/10:30

September 9 - Stonehaven Dedication Sunday

September 16 – Sunday School kickoff

We’re in This Together!

Volunteers Needed to Make The Transition Successful

Hanging our new cross - We need 6-8 men to assist in hanging a large cross in the worship/multipurpose room between June 1st and June 3rd. Work includes unloading the cross from a truck, moving it into the room, raising it on two lifts and supporting it while it is lifted into final position. Please email [email protected] if you can help. Or you may sign up on the bulletin board in the church entryway.

Raising the altar backdrop - We need 8-12 men to raise the V-shaped backdrop on which the statue of Jesus will be mounted. This will happen between June 20th and 23rd. There is a possibility that this work will be performed earlier than June 20th. Please email [email protected] or sign up on the bulletin board in the church en-tryway.

ECLC wing cleaning - We need 35-45 people on Saturday, June 2, 9:30-noon for a de-tailed clean of the interior of the ECLC wing prior to the installation of the vinyl floor-ing. Hot dog roast afterwards. Please email [email protected].

Worship/Multi-purpose Cleaning - We need 35-50 people on Saturday, June 9, for a detailed cleaning of the interior of the worship/multi-purpose space prior to the instal-lation of the vinyl flooring. Time not yet determined. Please email [email protected].

Moving pastors’ offices & church kitchen/library - We will need volunteers to help carry boxes, move furniture, etc. An email will be sent out as we get closer to that date.

Worship dry-run - We will be calling for volunteers the afternoon of Sunday, July 29, to rehearse / experiment with worship logistics on the Stonehaven campus. An email will be sent out as we get closer to that date.

Help Move the Peace Library ;-) The new bookshelves have arrived at Stonehaven and soon they will be full of books. That means that all of the devotionals, personal Bible studies, commentaries and topical books in our church library need to be moved between now and August.

Here’s how you can help:

1. Pick and check out any library book.

2. Take it home and read it over the summer.

3. Return it to the new library at Stonehaven in August or Sep-tember.

No heavy lifting required! The featured books cart in front of the library displays a variety of rec-

ommended books. Take a look and choose one today.

End of the School Year Service

Thursday, May 31, 6:30 p.m.

Windsor St. campus in the sanctuary

All members of Peace are invited to this worship service.

We end the school year as we began it –with the Word of God and prayer.

Thank You and Farewell to Miss Wade

A couple weeks ago our 2nd Grade teacher, Miss Jane Wade, submitted a letter to the congregation announcing her retirement from the ministry at the end of this school year.

Miss Wade has served in the public ministry for 38 years, eleven of them here at Peace.

On Sunday, June 10, we will observe a formal “farewell” to Miss Wade during the morning services. We will also have a light luncheon after the 9:30 service in the fellowship hall.

Additionally, Martin Luther College graduate Eric Uher (pronounced You-er) was assigned to be our new 6th Grade teacher. Peace voters also extended a one-year Call to Mrs. Eileen Karow to teach 2nd Grade temporarily. Mrs. Karow has been serving as a teacher’s aid for us in recent years.

Just to Be Clear

Our Thanksgiving/Celebration Service will be July 22. That will be the last Sunday we have an or-gan in the sanctuary of the Windsor St. campus. We will not celebrate Holy Communion on that Sunday as we anticipate (and hope for) many guests from Sun Prairie, former members, etc.

However, the LAST service at the Windsor St. campus will be Sunday, July 29, 8:00 & 9:30 a.m. It will be a piano service with Holy Communion.

Then on Monday night, 6:30 p.m., July 30 we will worship at the Stonehaven campus. It will be our very first full service on that campus. We are hoping this will help ease us through the transition.

Beginning August 5, services will be at 8:00 & 10:30 a.m. We anticipate that we will need ample time between services to give early service worshipers a chance for fellowship and also to clear out before the late service begins.

Western Wisconsin District Convention

On June 4th & 5th, the two pastors and principal will be attending a district convention of the Western Wisconsin District of the WELS hosted by Luther Preparatory School, Watertown, WI. Also attending will be Rick Leccese as lay-delegate to represent Peace congregation.

The purpose of the district convention is to hear reports, react to proposals and help set the agen-da for the WELS synod-wide convention the following summer. It lasts Monday 8:00-5:00 and Tuesday till noon. Floor committees meet in the evening hours.
