THEME: WE ARE TO TAKE UP OUR CROSS EACH DAY AND FOLLOW JESUS CHRIST. Today’s Gospel emphasizes what is required to follow Christ. We must set aside our selfish desires and take up our cross each day to help build up the kingdom of God. This involves sacrifice. Rather than conforming to what is popular in our present age, we must strive to do what is good and pleasing to the Lord each day.

LITURGY OF THE WORD: The fist reading tells of the inner struggles Jeremiah experienced in being faithful to God’s call to serve as a prophet. The second reading exhorts us to lead lives that are holy and pleasing to God. In the Gospel, Jesus teaches that all who desire to live as one of His disciples must take up their cross and follow Him.

REST IN PEACE: Our prayers and sympathy are extended to the family and friends of Mark Thomas who died this week.

IN OBSERVANCE OF LABOR DAY, the parish office will be closed on Monday.

We ask God to give all of them the grace and endurance they need to continue their ministry with faith and fortitude.DAILY MASS – Fr. Ziegler will not be attending the Convocation this year and will celebrate Mass here on Tuesday. However, Fr. Kulesa is attending and will not be available for the Thursday Mass. We will have a Word and Communion Service instead.

A Family Perspective by Bud Ozar: Relationships live in a careful balance. If a person changes, the balance is altered requiring a shift in the relationship. In today’s gospel Jesus announced a change and Peter resisted. Sometimes, those we count on for support may actually get in the way. Jesus told Peter: “You are an obstacle to me.”

CELEBRATE CATECHESIS: Those who Labor in the Vineyard of the Lord serve with a joyful enthusiasm to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ at all times in all ways, often with little or no compensation for their generosity of time and talent. Perhaps today we can seek a catechist, youth minister, adult faith formation minister, or RCIA team member to express our appreciation for their willingness to share their faith with our parishioners and our community.

2017 Diocesan Wedding Anniversary Celebration: Couples observing their 25th, 40th, 50th and over wedding anniversaries may attend a Wedding Anniversary Celebration at the Basilica of St. John the Baptist Church in Canton on Sunday,  October  22,  at  2:00  p.m. The celebration includes Mass with Bishop Murry, renewal of marriage vows, a personalized certificate for each couple and a reception for the couples and their families.
