Today, Pioneer Courthouse Square is at a key point in its nearly 30-year history. Ater thousands o ree publicprograms, millions o visitors and tireless community volunteer hours, the Board o Trustees o Pioneer Courthouse

Square is looking to pave the way to secure our City’s Living Room or the next generation o Portlanders.

This ambitious goal would not be attainable without the thriving partnership between Pioneer Courthouse Square’sBoard o Trustees and the City o Portland. Together, since the Square’s inception, we have successully managedthis public asset, elevating it to serve as one o the most award-winning Public Squares in the United States. Inpartnership, we look orward to meeting the challenges o basic repairs and capital improvements now presentedby an aging Square that has been well-loved and highly utilized by its citizens. Amassing the public and private resources to bring about this revitalization will be our organization’s ocus over thenext ew years. To this end, we will need everyone’s help.

Pioneer Courthouse Square’s Board o Trustees consists o thirty one elected members who serve two consecutive three-year terms. The members are representativeso the Community (10), the Region at-large (10) and Downtown Businesses (10). The City Commissioner in charge o Portland Parks & Recreation automatically serves

on the Board. Additionally, the President may appoint non-voting Honorary Trustees and Ex-Ofcio Trustees with the support o the majority o the Board.

PIONEER COURTHOUSE SQUARE

Pioneer Courthouse Square, Inc. is a non-prot advocacy group

charged with activating and enriching the environment o the City oPortland’s premiere public Park and gathering space or the benet o

Portland’s citizens and visitors. Working in partnership with the City

o Portland, the non-prot organization has successully ullled the

Park’s prominent public role with the help o community volunteers

and private sector contributions. In recent years, through this unique

public-private management model, the Park has been recognized as

one o the most successul public spaces in the United States.

Each year the Park is activated by more than 300 programmed event

days made possible through citizen-driven initiative and the generosity

o private sector sponsors throughout the Portland region. Thisscope o annual programming contains iconic annualized community

traditions and unique ‘once in a lietime’ events that reect the civic

role o the Park within its community and the evolving needs o the

citizenry that it supports.

VISION FOR THE SQUARE

Since the Park’s grand opening in 1984 the downtown urban landscape surrounding the Park has evolved signicantly, as

have the needs o the community that the Park serves. As a result, Pioneer Courthouse Square, in partnership with the

City o Portland, has identied Vision Goals or the Square. These multi-year goals identiy the need or an increase in

quality programming, acility replacement needs, and essential on-going maintenance.

VISION GOALSGoal 1: To continually improve the quality o on-site services and amenities to enrich the Park environment and serve as

a magnet or positive behavior.

Goal 2: To develop signature event programming that creates a broad community experience uniting the diverse

population groupings that share our region.

Goal 3: Enrich the public-private partnership with the City o Portland to:

•IncreasetheabilitytoraisefundstosupporttheParkanditsoperation

•ClarifyandseekagreementonParkmaintenancerolesandresponsibilities

•Achievestableoperationalfunding

Goal 4: To pursue new program, maintenance and capital replacement revenue opportunities.

Goal 5: Establish an eective level o administrative resources or delivery o operating goals, capital improvements and

long term maintenance initiatives.

Pioneer Courthouse Square opened as a unique public Park on

April 6, 1984, born o Portlanders’ determination to rejuvenate

the heart o their City. The Park was named ater its neighbor

to the east, the Federal Pioneer Courthouse, and was designed

to be the ocal point o Downtown. The Park resides at thecenter o the regional transit system anchoring the central

Portland’s annual Tree lighting kicks o the holidayseason in Portland’s downtown. contract, in 2013 Pioneer Courthouse Square will begin a second ve-year contract term

RECYCLED EVENT BANNER BAGS

Pioneer Courthouse Square’s seasonal Event Banners

have been recycled to make these ‘one of a kind’ totes.

Each banner has hung outdoors weathering local

conditions and has proven to be a very durable fabric,

ideal for multiple use. Each bag is made from a portion of

the original banner. The banner material in each tote will

appear gently distressed over time and are waterproof,

washable and strong.
