Dear Colleagues,
Heart failure is expected to become the new epidemic of the 21st century. Heart failure has indeed become the leading cause of hospitalization in patients over 65 years of age. Heartfailure patients need a cardiologist competent in clinical medicine and pharmacotherapy, butalso knowledgeable in cardiac devices and their programming, the imaging of the heart andprocedures related to the coronary circulation, as well as the management of patients with end-stage heart failure. To address this unmet educational need, the Heart Failure Association(HFA) of the ESC and its European Heart Academy together with the Zurich Heart House hasbeen developing a unique postgraduate course in heart failure (PCHF), leading to a Certificate ofAdvanced Studies (CAS) of the University of Zurich (CAS UZH in Heart Failure) and endorsed bythe ESC. PCHF consists of a two-year program with eight modules of 2.5 days each, a total of160 hours lectures and 140 hours of self-study. Each module is chaired by an internationallyrecognized expert. Unlike congress, the 2.5 days offer interactive discussions between speakersand participants, practical sessions and life case seminars. The course is based on a practiceoriented structure where participants can improve their clinical skills in diagnostic and increasetheir therapeutic know-ledge. Considering the uniqueness of the course, PCHF is one of the mostexciting current educational projects in cardiology, made possible thanks to a strategic collab-oration between academia, professional organizations and industry partners.
After the extremely positive and encouraging feedbacks of the 1st PCHF, we are very pleased toannounce the 2nd edition of the PCHF 2016–2017.
We are looking forward to receiving your applications and to meeting you in Zurich.
