The Winners!
The Awards Night
Now in their 11th year, the STEP
Private Client Awards highlight
excellence among private client
practitioners and firms around the
world. Open to both STEP members
and non-members, the Awards are
considered the most prestigious within
the private client industry.
The Awards Night on 8 September
2016 in London, UK was an incredible
evening celebrating the success and
recognising the achievements of some
of the leading lights in the industry,
and an impressive number of entrants
- more than 200 from 19 jurisdictions -
meant competition was stiff.
“The level of detail that has gone into the process by the judges and expert panel sets these awards apart from others.”
Cormac Brennan TEP, O’Connell Brennan
Solicitors, Winner of the STEP 2016/17
Boutique Firm of the Year
“These are the ‘Oscars’ of the fiduciary world and to be shortlisted is an accolade in itself.”

“The STEP Private Client Awards is a must attend event for all of those involved in the industry.”
Gary Heynes, Head of Private Client, RSM UK
Over 650 professionals attended the
event - considered to be one of the
top networking events in the private
client calendar - which was hosted by
comedian Henning Wehn, a TV and
Radio regular who appears on 8 out of
10 Cats and Have I Got News For You.
Proceedings began with a champagne
reception followed by a three-course-
dinner, then the Awards themselves.
Celebrations continued into the night
at the After Party , which featured a
charity casino where some fantastic
prizes were on offer.
Thank you to everyone who entered
and attended this year’s Awards; your
contributions raised over GBP84,000
for STEP’s charity partner, the
International Senior Lawyers Project.
Next year’s Private Client Awards will
be held on the 6 September 2017 at
the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge
Hotel, London, UK.

Thank you to all our judges for 2016/17
Our judges comprise a powerful mix of experts and
senior industry practitioners from around the world.
The Presiding Judges consider entries objectively and
draw up a shortlist of entrants in each category using
the key criteria outlined for each award, which are
designed to test the highest standard of achievement
by the entrants.
The submissions from the shortlist are then
considered by our Panel of Experts; a group of
practitioners who are drawn from a wide range of
professional backgrounds and jurisdictions. Their
recommendations are then returned to the Presiding
Judges who meet to make their final decisions and
choose the winners.
These collective judgments draw on the Judges’
combined experience and knowledge of the industry
and the aim is to ensure that the judging process for
the STEP Private Client Awards is as impartial
as possible.
We would like to thank all the 2016/17 Judges and
Panel of Experts for their time and expertise in
ensuring a rigorous and robust judging process.

STEP Private Client Awards Charity 2016/17
A message from the International
Senior Lawyers Project (ISLP):
“We have reached the third and
final year as the Charity Partner
for the STEP Private Client
Awards, and we would like to
thank all those who donated
for their wonderful support.
We have been overwhelmed by
your generosity; not only in the
financial sense, but also in the
expertise you have shared with
us during this period.”
Each year, the STEP Private Client Awards supports a
charitable organisation. Instead of charging an entry fee
for submissions, we ask entrants to make a donation to
our chosen charity. In addition, all proceeds from our
Charity Casino at the Awards Night are donated to this
cause. For the past three years we have been pleased
to support the work of the International Senior Lawyers
Project and have raised over £250,000, transforming
the work this organisation have been able to do;
delivering pro bono legal assistance to benefit vulnerable
communities and developing countries to navigate
complex legal issues and ensure a fairer society for all.
