POINT WE WANT

TO TELL OTHERS ABOUT

JESUS.

Open your Bible to Acts 16:16-40. SAY: The Bible tells us about two men—Paul and Silas—who loved God. They got thrown in jail be-cause they made a demon leave a slave girl. The slave girl’s owners didn’t want anyone helping her, and they were angry. Let’s listen to some clues to help us explore what happened next.

Play “Sound Effects” (track 14) on the CD, pausing after the chain sound effects. Ask kids what they think hap-pened to Paul and Silas. Then read aloud Acts 16:22-24.

Continue playing track 14, and pause after the sound effects of the men singing. Ask kids what they think happened next. Then read aloud Acts 16:25.

Continue the CD, stopping after the earthquake sound effects. Ask kids what the sound might be. Then read aloud Acts 16:26.

SAY: Paul and Silas could have just walked out of that jail…but they didn’t. The jailer was about to kill himself. If all the prisoners had run away, the jailer would be in trouble. But Paul said, “Stop! We’re all here!”

ASK: Tell about a time you helped someone when it wasn’t easy.

SAY: The jailer fell at their feet and asked, “What must I do to be saved?” He realized that he was lost without Jesus. Paul and Silas said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved.” But it wasn’t only the jailer who believed. Every-one in his house believed in Jesus, too!

ASK: Tell about a time you told someone about Jesus.

SAY: WE WANT TO TELL OTHERS

ABOUT JESUS. Paul and Silas told everyone—even their jailer, and his entire family became follow-ers of Jesus. Good things happen when we tell others about Jesus.

POINT WE WANT

TO TELL OTHERS ABOUT

JESUS.

Set out paper, tape, crayons, and Mini Markers.

ASK: Tell about a time you had big, important, exciting news to share.

SAY: WE WANT TO TELL OTH-

ERS ABOUT JESUS because God’s love and forgiveness, Jesus’ death and resurrection—those are the best pieces of news ever! One way people get an important message across is by putting it on a bill-board—one of the huge signs you see when you’re riding in the car. Let’s make a billboard for our door to tell everyone who passes by about Jesus.

Have children help you tape several sheets of paper together to make a door-sized paper. Lay it on the floor, and have children write (in huge letters) messages about Jesus. Then have kids help you tape the “bill-board” to the outside of your door.

ASK: Why do you want people to know these things about Jesus?

Besides a billboard, what are other ways to tell about Jesus?

SAY: God sent Jesus so we could be forgiven for our sins. All we have to do is believe in Jesus. God’s forgiveness is the best news ever. That’s why Paul and Silas stayed behind to tell the jailer about Jesus. Like Paul and Silas, WE

POINT WE WANT

TO TELL OTHERS ABOUT

JESUS.

Give each child a piece of Rainbow Clay.

SAY: WE WANT TO TELL OTHERS

ABOUT JESUS. Think of someone in your house, neighborhood, or school who needs to know about Jesus. Use your clay to sculpt that person. Pause for a minute to let children make their sculptures. Then have kids stand up, holding their sculptures.

I’m going to play music as you walk around the room. When the music stops, tell a partner about the person you sculpted and one thing you can tell that person about Jesus.

Play “We Will Live Forever” (John 3:16) (track 2) on the CD, and pause the song after several seconds. Allow time for kids to share, and then start the music again. Pause it, and encourage kids to choose a new partner each time. After playing about five rounds, gather the clay and have children each sit down with a partner. Have partners discuss the following questions.

ASK: What keeps you from telling people about Jesus?

What’s one thing that would help you tell others about Jesus?

SAY: Paul and Silas weren’t shy about telling about Jesus. That’s why they were in jail in the first place! Then when they had the chance to escape, they stayed to tell the jailer about Jesus. We don’t let anything stop us from sharing the good news either, because

POINT WE WANT

TO TELL OTHERS ABOUT

JESUS.

SAY: Paul and Silas sang songs when they were in prison.

ASK: What kinds of things make you want to sing?

What kind of music do you like to listen to when you’re having a rough day?

SAY: Paul and Silas were definitely having a rough day, but they sang praises to God anyway. Maybe they wanted help remembering that God was with them. Maybe they sang as a way of telling the guards about Jesus. Or maybe they sang because they wanted to thank God, even in the hard times.

Form trios, and help each trio work together to make up a song about Jesus to the tune of “Happy Birthday” or “Row, Row, Row Your Boat.” After five minutes, have each trio perform its song for the other children.

ASK: How can music help people know more about Jesus?

SAY: WE WANT TO TELL OTHERS

ABOUT JESUS. Music is one way to spread the news that Jesus loves us and takes away our sins. It helped the jailer realize that Paul and Silas had found something special in Jesus!

POINT WE WANT

TO TELL OTHERS ABOUT

JESUS.

Form three groups, and give each group a sheet of paper and a Mini Marker.

SAY: Think of some things you know about Jesus. Pause.

Now think of some people you can tell those things to. Pause.

Give the Mini Marker to the person in your group who’s wearing the most green. Pause. If you’ve got the marker, write something you know about Jesus. Pause.

Now hand the marker to the person wearing the most red, so that person can write something else about Jesus. Have kids pass the marker until each person has written something about Jesus. Encour-age kids to help each other think of things to write. Also be available to help non-writers, but make sure kids don’t worry too much about spelling.

Then have children take turns writing the names of people they can tell about Jesus.

ASK: How did you help each other in this activity?

How can you help your friends tell others about Jesus?

What good things can happen when friends work together to share the good news of God’s love?

SAY: Paul and Silas worked together to tell others about Jesus, just as we worked together in this activ-ity. WE WANT TO TELL OTHERS

ABOUT JESUS. This week, look for ways to help your friends share about God’s love.
