Patriots Claim First State Football Title Since 1986 Championship Game A 10-3 win over Magnolia Heights Academy gave the Heritage Academy football team and fans our first state championship in over 25 years! It happened on Friday, November 9th, in the MAIS AAA Div. 2 playoff game held at Mississippi College’s Robinson-Hale Stadium. After a 2-5 win/loss start to the season, the Patriots finished with a 5-0 winning streak claiming a win in the Championship game. The momentum and excitement escalated as the team united to realize its dream. “All In” became the team’s motto and it spilled over to the Patriot fan base as t-shirts and signs began appearing with that saying. As it turned out, a victory would be ours!! Team sports teach many of life’s lessons and this football season we learned, 1.) never give up, 2.) determination and hard work really do pay off, and 3.) everyone has to be “all in”! Congratulations to our football team and our coaches! Thank you for the lessons both on and off the field that you have reinforced for us! 1 of 7

pa-tri-ot. noun\’pā-trē-әt\ Definition of PATRIOT: one who loveshis or her country and supports its authority and interests.

At the high school Veterans Day program, the Boy Scouts presented the colors, a girls ensemble performedpatriotic songs and a keynote address by CAFB Wing Commander Col. Jim Sears inspired us. A specialpresentation by Taylor McGrath (see below) and recognition of each Veteran who attended added moremeaning. In addition, video clips from some of the 9th grade Veteran interviews were played for all to see. Ata reception that followed the program, our 9th grade students presented the Veterans with a keepsake copyof a book they compiled from interviews titled: Heroes - All Patriots. Many would agree, the HA Patriots hadpaused to honor and recognize some other Patriots - our Veterans!

While honoring our Veterans, the 9th grade English classes learned many new skills. They learned how to setup and conduct an interview as well as the proper etiquette for interviewing and greeting their guests. Inwriting the narratives, they had to learn and apply writing skills such as editing, revising, proofing andpublishing. They also had to learn and apply technical skills such as taking photos and transferring photos totheir laptops. In addition, they had to create an iMovie with voice over, images, and music. Yes, they learned a lot! But, mostimportantly, our students got to interact with real heroes. Meeting with these Veterans and hearing their storieshas left a lasting impression with our 9th grade students.

Thanks to the Veterans who helped our students learn new skills and allowed them to meet and interview ahero. Thanks to ALL Veterans for their past and continued service to our country!

Tenth Grade Student Taylor McGrath presented a flag to HA Headmaster Dr. Greg Carlyle.
