The cheerful adventures of Patilancho and his band of curious, resourceful and cheerful friends are inevitably associated with the other central character in the book, the object of their antics - strict but loving grandmother Tsotsolana.

The cheerful stories are a favorite reading for generations of Bulgarian children.Smehurko (means - one who loves to laugh) is a collective image of those who love laughter.The letters are defined as encyclopedia of children's games, pranks, mischief, thirst for adventure.

The leader - Jolly Patilancho wants very much to help his grandmother Tsotsolana, but falls into trouble. The boy is jovial, responsive, compassionate, proud, ambitious and frank. There are faithful band of friends -Pancho, Dancho, Pam, Micah, Dana, Ghana, which shares the joys and sorrows. There are always animals with them: donkey Sivcho, dog Mimi, the cat Tatuncho, Petra.

Patilan’s kingdom is always restless, lively, fun. After each feat they know what awaits them, but follow the philosophy: "The battle is forgotten but laughter remains". But apart from pranksters, they are hard-working, with a good heart. Then they receive praise.

Here are some of the eventsHere are some of the eventsPatilan is the grandson of Grandma Tsotsolana. She has three small grandchildren. One day he has trusted to take care of them while she went shopping. Patilan allowed to play in the yard and do whatever they want. When the grandmother returned them finds them dirty and muddy. Baba Tsotsolana casts Patilan but with him leave the other children, even her favorite cat. She is frightened and repent. She promises to scold himt no longer.

Baba Tsotsolana led the children hiking in the mountains. Everybody start up with baskets full of food. Halfway they sit down to eat. When they need to climb a high cliff, children begin to pull the grandmother with a rope. But it is very difficult. Then Patilan scares her with a crawling lizard, and the grandmother in a moment found himself on the top of the cliff.

Baba Tsotsolana wants to rejuvenate. She puts cream every night. One night she asks Patilan to give her cream, but in the darkness he fed her shoe. In the morning, a neighbor sees her and fled. By the her shouts crowd gathers. Patilan is punished. The boy stuck on her back of a cartoon owl. Everybody laughs at her.

Once children help harvesters from the village, which had gone with her grandmother Tsotsolana. A man sends them to a distant water source. Children bring jugs of water, but are distracted in the game and the precious liquid spills.On a meadow Patilan discovered a rivulet. Everybody dug furrow. Grandparents find them after an hour, but they are quickly forgiven because of their discovery.
