Interesting Facts about Padre Junipero Serra Canonization Ceremony September 23, 2015

when Father Serra died in 1784 he had established nine California missions, including two in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Those nine grew to 21 missions, from San Diego to Sonoma, founded by Father Serra and succeeding Spanish friars. Today, approximately 60 percent of the state's nearly 39 million people live in areas surrounding the missions, and El Camino Real, the road that Father Serra traveled on a tour of the missions shortly before his death.

La Purísima Concepción Parish SHINE Retreat September 25, 26, & 27, 2015

The SHINE Retreat provides the opportunity to establish and rekindle a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and bond with other Catholics from our parish. The success of this retreat for the past 22 years is because it is Christ and heart centered. It consists of a series of presentations provided by our pastor Fr. Tom, Deacon Rich, and parishioners with small group discussions. It takes place in our Parish Hall, you go home at night and meals are provided. There is no cost for the retreat. You only need to bring a willingness to be open to Jesus and to each other. Brochures with registration forms are in the vestibule and Pastoral Center or go to our website Lapurisima.org/shine and click on "Shine sign up form". Prayer Requests Our students pray daily for their sick and deceased loved ones every morning and afternoon. Children's prayers are powerful, and Jesus listens to His children. A petition box is housed in the school office. If you are interested in having our children pray for you or a loved one, please stop by the school office and fill out a petition for our prayer box. We will pray for you.

Genevieve’s and Otis Spunkmeyer Cookie Dough Fundraiser The school’s annual Genevieve’s and Otis Spunkmeyer Cookie Dough fundraiser is underway. Students have their packets and ready for your orders. Gift wrap, Christmas cards and so much more is available by order. You may see an LPCCS student outside Church or around the neighborhood with that special brochure in hand. RECYCLING Our recycling program helps to provide our school with office supplies. If you wish to contribute, please drop off your plastics, glass, and aluminum behind the orange gate located in the alley between the Pastoral Center and Parish Hall. We also recycle ink and toner car tr idges. These items may be dropped off at school. Thank you!

Datos Interesantes sobre Junípero Serra

¿Sabías que...? Cuando el Padre Serra murió en 1784, había establecido nueve misiones en California, dos de ellas en la Arquidiócesis de Los Ángeles. Esas nueve misiones llegaron a ser 21 misiones, desde San Diego a Sonoma, fundadas por el Padre Serra y los frailes españoles que lo sucedieron. Hoy en día, aproximadamente el 60% de la población de los casi 39 millones de habitantes del estado viven en áreas alrededor de las misiones y de ‘El Camino Real’, la ruta por la cual el Padre Serra viajó en una visita a las misiones poco antes de su muerte.

San Martín Caballero nos vuelve a visitar en nuestra parroquia, La Purísima Concepción. Este domingo, 30 de agosto estará presente en la Misa de las 12 del mediodía.

Al final de la Misa, les invitamos cordialmente al convivió en el Salón Parroquial. Estaremos sirviendo hasta las 3:30 p.m. Pedimos una donación de $7 por platillo de pollo asado, ensalada, arroz, y frijoles.
