WHEN DO WE USE PAST SIMPLE TENSE?

We use Past Simple Tense when we talk about

completed actions in the past.

Example: I washed my car yesterday.

She ate pizza last night.

KINDS OF VERBS

Remember regular and irregular verbs.

Turn regular verbs to the past by adding –ed or–d.

If the verb ends with y preceded by a vowel, add –ed.E : Add –D:I lived , you decided , he liked, …

If the verb ends with y preceded by a consonant, drop they, turn it into i and add

-ed.Consonant + Y: IED:I studied, He tidied, …(vs: I played)- 1 Vowel + 1 consonant: Double the consonant: She planned , they stopped, … (vs: he waited)

1.To talk about actions that happened at a specific time in

the past. You state when it happened using a time adverb

(yesterday, last Mont.):

“Last year I took my exams”.

2. It can be used to describe events that happened over a

period of time in the past but not now:

"I lived in Asia for two years."

3. It is also used to talk about habitual or repeated actions

that took place in the past:

"When I was a child we always went to the seaside on bank

holidays."
