*Indicative results. Results will vary by shipping company.

  • VoyagerVoyager is the GNS back-of-bridge software product. It’s the easier way to managenavigational information and compliance. With all key tasks on one page and our most intuitive interface yet, no other navigation management software is as simple to use or as efficient.

Why should a shipping company buy it?It’s a particulary good choice for shipping companies: • Using a mix of paper and digital charts and publications because it updates both via one application. • Using multiple ECDIS because Voyager works with all major ECDIS makes and models and enables

companies to standardise bridge procedures across their fleet.• With ECDIS that do not display the Admiralty Information Overlay (the UKHO’s extra safety check

layer), because Voyager includes an ENC and AIO viewer.• That want fast access to ENCs or Pay as You Sail because Voyager includes Voyager Instant Permit and

Voyager Open Permit.• Already using or wishing to use Meteo Group SPOS or AWT weather routing as it is compatible with

both.• Using Admiralty and local Hydrographic Office charts because it updates all via one application.• Trading internationally because it provides navigational global NAVAREA Warnings to support safer

navigation. It also provides access to a range of added value applications can be purchased and tailored to each individual vessel, ensuring the crews have the information they need when they need it and has some of the best data compression of any back of bridge software - up to 80% - to minimises communication costs.

Who’s it designed for?Voyager is extremely simple to use - key actions are completed from the home page within just 2 or 3 clicks so even the most IT wary crews can pick it up in no time. It’s extremely easy to install and set up so the roll out to ships is very easy to manage. And it does everything from managing inventories and downloading updates to route planning and optimisation and navigation compliance reporting.

    1. Comprehensive - ENC (AVCS and Primar), AIO and ADP display, ENC and ADP updating, BA and non BA NtMs and tracings management and route planning and optimisation.

    2. Crafted and tested by mariners with absolute focus on simplicity and all key tasks on the homepage.3. You can route plan back of bridge, optimise with SPOS or AWT and export to ECDIS.4. Use with GNS’s Voyager Management Service for office teams to have full visibility of vessel

inventories, update status and ordering history.5. Additional applications to support passage planning including ADP, Regs4Ships, AtoBviaC, Met515

and Piracy Information.6. Low support - Installation and configuration in less than 20 minutes and very simple to use with free

    24/7 GNS support if required

    Voyager customer onboarding process (Sales)

  • What are Voyagers’ Points of Difference?1. Voyager allows the user to plan a route back of bridge and keep the ECDIS free for safe voyage

execution specifically: • Voyager includes an ENC/AIO viewer and (for customers without an ENC licence) a GIS map

interface• Voyager exchanges routes with Meteo Group SPOS and AWT Bon Voyage to optimise for weather• Voyager displays tidal information (Admiralty TotalTide) as an overlay on the chart or map -

requires current ADP TotalTide subscription• Voyager exports routes in the ECDIS file format (Furuno, Transas, JRC, SAM as well as Maris and

Kongsberg)2. Voyager provides access to the Admiralty Information Overlay which combines global T&P NMs

and the results of UKHO’s quality checking of ENCs produced by national HOs. These are a carriage requirement and are not accessible in a number of ECDIS.

    3. Voyager includes global navigational NAVAREA Warnings, NP247 Annual Summary of NMs and NP234 Cumulative list of NMs - all required for compliance and safe navigation so its a more comprehensive updating solution.

    4. Unlike ChartCo, we are investing a considerable amount of resources ($1.7m per annum) into ongoing development - future proofed.

Points of Parity - How does Voyager match the competition?1. Analyses chart and publications holdings and automatically emails relevant NtMs, Tracings and digital

updates to make it easier not to miss any corrections and to apply them correctly.2. Provides Admiralty and National NtMs and digital updates for AVCS and ADP so you can manage all

updating requirements via a single service which is more efficient. 3. Automatic identification of the products needed for a vessel’s voyage reduces time taken to create

orders, helps optimise chart inventories and minimise navigational product costs.4. Very easy to install and use, minimal training required by crew’s.5. Links with Voyager Customer Service so that any changes to the inventory are automatically recorded in

our systems for New Edition auto supply.6. Comes with a certificate of compliance for port state control inspection purposes.7. Low day-to-day operating costs (small file sizes tailored to the vessels inventory and up to 80%

compression).8. Added value services to help vessels navigate more safely and efficiently e.g. Regs4ships, findaport,

AtoBviaC, Piracy information and Met515.9. Installation and configuration in less than 20 minutes

    Principal competitor is ChartCo

    Differentiation and Competitive Summary

  • What does Voyager do?It helps you manage paper and digital charts and publications onboard, you can use it to route plan, get your Notices to Mariners by email and internet, optimise routes for weather and tides, and it will also help with your passage planning. It also gives a way to view your vessels’ chart correction logs to help you manage compliance across your fleet.

Does it do anything else? There are a range of added value applications you can add to your Voyager subscription for example you can use Voyager with SPOS or Bon Voyage to optimise a route for weather, you can check for piracy warnings and access port information.

Will Voyager help with my compliance?Yes, by delivering the right NtMs, tracings and digital updates in a timely way to your vessels and helping crews track which updates have been applied and which New Editions need to be ordered. There’s a compliance report that can be used during port state controls inspections. It also shares information with Voyager Management Service ashore so you can keep track of the corrections that have been applied and the New Editions required across your fleet more easily.

Can I purchase national chart updates?Voyager includes NtMs and tracings for national charts as well as the full range of BA charts and publications.

Can I purchase charts and publications using Voyager?Yes, better still Voyager identifies charts needed for a route and alerts you about any that are missing from your chart index. The ship manager can view and approve orders via VMS. If you’re navigating with ENCs, you can get access to additional chart permits quickly and efficiently and Voyager will confirm they have been added to your folio.

Can Voyager help reduce my communication costs? Not exactly, but its very cost effective way to get access to data quickly and efficiently because

update files are tailored to the vessels inventory and heavily compressed (by 80%).

What support is available?Free 24/7 technical support from our trained teams around the world plus in-depth demonstration videos, User Guides and Quick Start Guides.

What flag states allow its use?Virtually all Flags have approved digital NTMs. The following Flags have explicitly approved Voyager: Bahamas, Bermuda, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Isle of Man, Liberia, Malta, Marshall Islands, Norway, Panama and the UK.

How long does it take to install?Voyager is very easy to install, in some cases it will take as litle as twenty minutes.

What hardware and operating system does it need?Processor: 2 GHz Dual CoreHard drive: 20 GBMemory: 2 GBWindows XP SP3, Vista, Windows 7 and 8 (x64 and x86 systems)

    Obstacles and Objections

Obstacle Objection handlingWe are using a competitor and don’t want to switch.

    • Voyager is now more intuitive, efficient and able to undertake all key tasks such as updating, ordering products and managing navigational compliance. It provides access to Voyager Open Permit and Voyager Instant Permit plus Voyager Management Service.

It’s too expensive. • Focus on the key benefits they are looking for depending on the response, i.e. time saving/efficiency benefits, compliance benefits, etc

    • Route based ordering and management reduces spending on unnecessary ENCs

    • Consider enterprise licence deal to tempt them

I am happy to stick with the old way of doing things. I don’t see the need for this sort of thing.

Prompts may include:• Time managing ENC permits? Increasing burden on ship man-

agers as well as crew and how software can help.• Discuss Voyager as a means to access Voyager Open Permit

and Instant Permit.• How much spent currently on last minute chart require-

ments? Voyager can enhance efficiency with quicker and more accurate updating and route planning - save up to 15 hrs a week on board and time ashore (Voyager Instant Permit and VMS)

    • How much time/money spent shipping physical NtMs and other paper products to vessel around the world? Voyager delivers by email straight to ship.

    • Number of observations per year across the fleet? Make it easier for crew to maintain navigation compliance.

    • Reducing crew numbers? Struggling to recruit or retain crews? Improvements to crew environment can be important to retention.

I can’t justify the costs to the owners. • Explore how purchasing decisions work between them and the owners and their level of influence.

    • How could we help you to justify the investment so they could benefit?

I am too busy to introduce new systems or processes.

    • Voyager is very easy to use. It has been designed and tested by mariners with absolute focus on simplicity and reliability

    • Emphasise the cost and efficiencies of updating a wide range of content and managing paper and digital charts more efficiently.

Customer problem How Voyager helps Avoiding deficiencies and detentions and generally improving compliance and safety record.

Chart and publication related deficiencies are consistently a top 3 reason for observations and detentions.

Voyager clearly identifies charts and publications to be updated and/or replaced. It removes the need to trawl through the paper NtM booklet every week and reduce the risk of missing something that may cause PSC problems.Digital updates are tailored to the ENCs, ARCS charts and digital publication volumes on board so crew just have to apply them.

Crew struggling to keep everything in order and up to date.

Context:In every part of life we are experiencing information overload and sensible information management is now a key aspect of operating efficiently in any type of business operation.

Receive only relevant chart and publication updates using the Update Manager and reduce the amount of superfluous informa-tion that has to be waded through onboard.

Always have a clear view of vessels’ holdings and current update status. Get alerts when charts and publications are out of date.Use search features to locate information needed easily and fast. Find what you need in seconds.

Worrying about overspending on charts and publications.

Context:Pressure on operational costs following the biggest recession shipping has ever experienced is still intense. Regulations are tightening making it more impor-tant than ever to ensure ships operate compliantly.

Refine the charts you buy and reduce waste with route based chart selection. Passage plan on actual ENCs for better accuracy. ENC display includes the AIO to minimise last minute changes and aid vessel safety. Use the holdings management tool to man-age complex permits more efficiently.

Know what you need for the voyage and what needs to be renewed at a glance. Minimize download costs with files tailored to each vessels’ inventory and maximum data compression. Completely modular. Purchase only what each vessel needs.

Managing repetitive work efficiently on board and reducing the risk of error.

Automate tasks like checking which charts and publications need updating.

Save hours per week on manual corrections with digital publica-tions or our looseleaf products with updates delivered via VPS. Automatically generate route plans and transfer routes to/from ECDIS - no more manual rekeying of waypoints.

Only updates that are relevant to vessel inventory are sent, meaning crew does not need to sift through pages of NtMs each week.

    7-Step Digital Transition

GNS’s simple proven 7 step formula for switching for navigating with paper charts and publications to ENCs and other digital products.Who’s it designed for?For shipping companies that need to make the transition to digital navigation - primarily the container, general cargo and bulker fleets that have between 2016 and 2018 to switch to digital.

Why should a shipping company use it?Switching from paper charts to digital charts sounds simple, but most shipping companies that have done it will tell you otherwise.

From an increase in admin for the purchasing teams, to getting to grips with everything from new ways to buy charts, manage inventories, update charts, demonstrate compliance to port state control inspectors, passage plan and execute a voyage not to mention the new bridge procedures that have to underpin it all, digital navigation is different and transitioning safely and compliantly without impacting commercial operations does take some thinking about.

The GNS 7 easy-to-follow step process is designed to help shipping companies through the transition.

    Key points to remember

    1. Free white paper for download from www.gnsworldwide.com/support.2. 7 clear and well documented steps developed by GNS from our experience helping many shipping

companies to transition to digital.3. Highly experienced GNS digital transition team also available to support customers through the process

  • Voyager Instant Permit

The new GNS Voyager Instant Permit service gives customers fast access to the ENCs they need without having to contact Customer Service. Who’s it designed for?Voyager Instant Permit is for everyone but it will be particularly useful to customers that have high demand for extra ENC coverage out of hours. Note: Vessels will have to be using Voyager onboard to take advantage of Instant Permit.

Why should a shipping company buy it?Currently if one of our customers needs ENC permits they must raise an order requisition and the order must usually be approved by the budget holder before it can be processed. If they need those ENC permits outside of office hours they have to either wait, or contact an out of hours emergency number. This can result in delays in getting access to ENC coverage.

Voyager Instant Permit makes it easier for vessels to get access to ENCs by providing faster access to ENC permits - permits are delivered by email usually within approximately 10 minutes of the vessel placing an order without the need to contact GNS Customer Service.

    Key points to remember

    1. Faster access to ENC permits - Permits usually returned within 10 minutes.2. Limits are US $ PER ORDER and must be set at fleet level NOT by vessel - These must be agreed by the

fleet manager via email before the service can be activated to protect the shipping company’s account. 3. Just needs Voyager to be installed/used onboard - available with all Voyager subscriptions from

Voyager Essentials upwards.4. Order limits can be changed at any time - you or your customer can either contact GNS Customer

Service or log in to VMS to change them.5. UKHO will not refund any orders placed in error.6. There is no charge for the service.

Some frequently asked questions and answers:

Why might an order fail? There are a number of reasons why an order may fail. For example: orders may be above the order limit you have set, they may include requests for duplicate permits or they may include an incorrect ENC number.

What happens if an order fails?Your vessel will receive an email advising that the order has failed and asking them to contact GNS Customer Service.

Will I be charged for Customer Service support if an order fails? No, from 1 November 2015 all GNS customer support is free of charge for GNS customers.

What happens if the vessel makes a mistake and it doesnt need the ENCs?Unfortunately UKHO operates a zero tolerance policy on incorrect ENC orders and does not offer refunds on ENC permits supplied.

For Internal Use Only-Do Not Share Externally

  • What is the order criteria?A maximum $value per order. Note: this is per order not $ total per day.

What does a customer need to get started?Vessels must have at least Voyager Essentials onboard and a current AVCS subscription with us. If customers want to be able to view orders that have been processed daily they will also need a login to access VMS.

When will it be available? From 1 November 2015

Do customers need the latest version of Voyager to get this?It works with all versions of Voyager from version 3 onwards.

Do customers need a VMS login? No, GNS Customer Service can set the maximum order value on behalf of the customer. But if a customer wants to be able to view orders processed via Voyager Instant Permit or to change their order limits themselves they can do so in VMS and will need a VMS login.

Is there a charge/premium for the service? The service is included in our standard ENC prices. There are no additional fees.

How can a shipping company change its maximum order value?Order limits can be set and amended by the customer in Voyager Management Service or by calling or emailing GNS Customer Service.

Can the order value be set per vessel or must it be the same order value for all?Currently order limits must be set at company level but in the future there will be greater flexibility.

What happens if an order doesn’t meet the criteria and is rejected? The vessel will receive a notification that the order hasn’t been processed along with an explanation as to why. They will be advised to contact GNS Customer Services to get access to the charts they require.

How do customers change their ENC order limit? The easiest way is for you to ask GNS Customer Service to do this either by email or over the phone. We will send a confirmation of the change by email and copy this to you.

Alternatively if the customer has a VMS login and password they can do this themselves by selecting “EDIT AUTO ORDERING” from the “I WANT TO” options on the left of the screen. In the pop up window that appears they should enter the Order Limit they wish to use for ENC orders in the second “$ Order Limit” box. Clicking Update confirms the change.

A customer wants to manage the ENC order limit himself in VMS, why is there a £ and a $ option and which one should he be changing?Customers using VMS to manage their Instant ENC Permit order limits need to amend second box “$ Order Limit”. This box relates to ENC orders that are processed in $. The first “£ Order Limit” box relates to all other orders processed via Voyager. If you enter a value greater than £0 in this box, non ENC orders received from your vessels will also be automatically processed.

  • Voyager Open Permit

The new GNS Voyager Open Permit (Pay as You Sail) provides always on access to worldwide ENCs and saves ship managers and crew hours a week on ENC related admin. This service is available on a pure Pay as You Sail basis or with the one-and-done convenience of a GNS all-inclusive fixed price bundle.Who’s it designed for?Voyager Open Permit is primarily aimed at vessels that are tramping and/or with frequently changing trading areas to help reduce the administration associated with managing frequently changing ENC requirements. It is also an excellent choice for any customers that are looking for ways to make ENC management easier and less time consuming.

Why should a shipping company buy it?• Eliminates 95% of ENC related admin by billing customers monthly in arrears for their ENC usage (based

on vessel track) - no purchase orders, no order approvals, no permit requests and no delays.• It gives vessels access to worldwide ENCs for planning purposes.• It gives vessels always on access to ENCs for real time navigation without having to request and wait for

    permits.

    Key points to remember

    1. Worldwide ENCs are onboard and crews have full and unlimited access for route planning on both Voyager and the ECDIS (where originating HO permits PAYS)*.

    2. Free charts for planning, only pay when vessel sails through an ENC.3. ENC purchasing admin reduced by as much as 95%.4. Charts carry a 30% premium and there is an annual vessel tracking fee of US$500 - saving of ~ $1350 on

Navtor annual fees.5. Voyager provides intelligent ENC update management (important when carrying a worldwide folio

onboard) and makes managing non PAYS charts easy*.6. 2 easy ways to pay - all-inclusive bundle or standard PAYS.

*Non PAYS ENCs supplied on standard terms. Voyager advises when cells in a route are missing and must be purchased. Customer has option to purchase for shortest possible permit length or for a longer period [if frequently transiting the area].

  • How does it work?

Getting Started1. The customer signs up for the service by completing and signing the Voyager Open Permit agreement

including providing Inmarsat Serial Number (ISN) and MMSI number for their SatC terminal. 2. Partner confirms whether billing is on a pure PAYS basis or as part of an all-inclusive package.3. NOTE: If customer is a new AVCS customer we will require ECDIS Hardware ID, etc. If customer is an

existing AVCS customer but has been buying AVCS through another supplier, the customer will need to complete an Admiralty Transfer of Digital Licence form.

    4. Partner provides signed agreement to GNS.5. Each vessel is set up as a Voyager Open Permit customer by GNS Customer Service.6. If pure PAYS service, partner is invoiced in advance for vessel tracking - price to be confirmed. This is an

annual fee and must be paid before the service is activated.7. The partner supplies the vessel with an AVCS media pack (by mail).8. GNS supplies the vessel with a worldwide ENC permit (by email) for use back-of-bridge in Voyager

and on its ECDIS and activates vessel tracking. 9. GNS polls the vessel position approximevery 90 minutes, records its route and identify the ENCs it has

tracked through. 10. Any ENCs not available on a PAYS basis that the vessel needs are identified at route planning stage

in Voyager to enable the vessel to request any necessary permits in a timely way. These are usually supplied with 10 minutes of request (using Voyager Instant Permit B2B interface with UKHO)

    11. Vessel manages ENC updates and its active ENC inventory using Voyager’s intelligent ENC management to minimise data download costs whilst keeping the right ENCs up to date – this includes a range of pre-programmed updating options and self-service alternatives.

    12. Ship managers can view and monitor ENC usage in Voyager Management Service.13. The cost of all ENCs covering the areas where the vessel has tracked through are either (1) billed to

the customer monthly in arrears if they have opted for pure PAYS or, (2) if they have chosen an all-inclusive bundle, provided within the pre-agreed price.

Payment optionsCustomer can choose to buy Voyager Open Permit on a pure Pay as You Sail basis or as part of an all-inclusive bundle.

Option 1: PAYS• Only pay for ENCs if you sail through the geographic area they cover. Remember though, you will be

charged for every ENC (all scales/bands) on your vessel track.• Log in to a daily report of chart usage via Voyager Management Service, to stay in control of ENC spend. • Pay an annual subscription fee of xxxx [vessel tracking and any planning fees imposed from Jan 16] payable

annually in advance with chart usage billed monthly in arrears.• Non PAYS charts added to vessels monthly charge and billed monthly in arrears based on the permit

length chosen. Customer has a choice at account set up as to whether they want us to automatically supply non PAYS or to approve purchases via VMS (all or over a certain value/volume of orders).

Option 2: All-inclusive fixed annual price• A fixed annual subscription billed in advance annually or monthly in 12 equal instalments.• Annual all-inclusive bundles available for ENC only as well as combinations of navigational

information including paper charts and books and digital publications.• Fixed price fee includes PAYS and non PAYs ENC purchases.• Tailored to vessel types and geographic areas of operation.• Includes ENC index management, updating and route planning via Voyager.• Includes compliance and account management via Voyager Management Service.• 3 year contract but with Sales Director discretion to negotiate shorter periods.

  • How much does tracking cost? There is an annual fee of $1450 per annum which includes vessel tracking and Voyager for ENC management, planning and updating. This fee is payable annually in advance and is non refundable.

If customers choose an all-inclusive package then tracking, Voyager and data costs are all included within the fixed annual price.

What does a customer need to get started?Vessels must have a SatC terminal and have installed Voyager on board.Tracking is done using the vessels’ existing SatC terminal so there is no need for any additional communications equipment. If customers want to be able to view orders that have been processed daily they will also need a login to access VMS.Of course, vessels will also need an ECDIS on which to display and navigate with the ENCs.

When will it be available? From November 2016

Do customers need the latest version of Voyager to get this?Customers will need to be using Voyager 7 onwards to take advantage of intelligent ENC management.

Do customers need a VMS log in? No its not a prerequisite, but if customers want to track ENC usage they will be able to do so in VMS so will need a VMS login for that.

Is there a charge/premium for the service?Pay As You Sail service carries a premium of approximately 25-30% on the price of the charts. This premium is levied by the producing Hydrographic Offices and is intended to cover the charts made available for planning. There is also an annual fee of $1450. Note: This compares favourably with competitor tracking fees which in the case of Navtor are $1850 per annum.

What are the communications costs associated with this service?Intelligent ENC management keeps cost of updating a worldwide ENC folio to a minimum. There are no additional costs relating to polling the vessel position over and above the costs you are paying now.

Are there any additional hardware requirements? No, Voyager Open Permit uses your existing SatC terminal. Voyager will run on any PC running Windows 7 onwards.

What happens if a chart the customer wants isn’t available on PAYS?There a number of Hydrographic Offices that don’t support PAYS. Voyager Open Permit identifies these charts at passage planning stage and makes it easy to request missing permits before tranferring the route to ECDIS.

The vessel has the option to purchase the ENCs on a 3, 6, 9 or 12 month basis depending on how frequently she will use them.

ENCs purchased this way are billed monthly in arrears as with other ENCs and itemised on your monthly invoice.

Permit renewals for these charts is managed by Voyager by notifying crew of up and coming permit expiries and asking if they should be renewed.

  • Hang Xing ZheHang Xing Zhe is a digital Notices to Mariner service that helps Chinese speaking shipping companies improve navigation related compliance and reduce deficiencies. Who’s it designed for?Hang Xing Zhe is aimed at shipping companies with Chinese speaking crews that sail internationally and who use British Admiralty and/or National Hydrographic Office paper charts.

Why should a shipping company buy it?Navigation-related issues are consistently one of the top 3 reasons for Port State Control Inspection deficiences (average 15% of deficiencies are navigation related). Hang Xing Zhe makes it easier for vessels to avoid these deficiencies by providing: 1. Tailored NtM files to the vessel each week so crews don’t have to trawl through multiple booklets to

identify the corrections that are relevant to its inventory.2. Tracings of individual NtMs so corrections can be applied more accurately.3. NtMs and tracings by email so vessels don’t have to wait up to a month to get them - no delays, no lost

mail, no issues with if the courier can deliver to a port.4. An easy way to check that NtMs have been downloaded and record when they have been applied so

corrections don’t get overlooked.5. A reporting tool that gives crews an easy way to demonstrate to PSC inspectors that relevant New

Edition charts and publications are on board and relevant NtMs have been applied.

    1. Reduces deficiencies and detentions - A better way for crews to keep track of corrections they need to apply and New Editions they need to buy so they make fewer mistakes and avoid PSC issues.

    2. It’s in Chinese, for Chinese ship companies and crews - Including Chinese user guides and support.3. Easy to use - Installs quickly on PCs running Windows 2000 onwards and has a very simple user

interface.4. Supports digital navigation - In addition to paper updating also offers AVCS, PRIMAR, ADP and eNP

  • What are Hang Xing Zhe’s Points of Difference?1. Hang Xing Zhe is the only simplified Chinese language digital NtM service available today. Menus,

dialogue boxes, reports and check lists, help files, user guides, etc are all in Chinese making it very easy for Chinese crews to get started and use without language issues associated with other digital NtM services.

    2. Hang Xing Zhe is the only service that provides NtMs for China Maritime Safety Agency and Naval Guarantee Department paper charts in addition to British Admiralty and other national Hydrographic Office NtMs.

    3. Hang Xing Zhe is the only service that is supported by a Chinese speaking team. Our team is based in Dalian and Singapore and many of them have seafaring experience - so even if the crew do need some help they can get it easily from people that speak their language and understand the environment and challenges they face.

    4. Hang Xing Zhe provides much smaller Japanese update files than competitor services so its more cost effective for vessels using Japanese paper charts.

    5. Unlike other ChartCo and Digitrace you don’t need to sign up to an Outfit Management Service to benefit from Hang Xing Zhe. Customer can either provide us with the vessel’s chart inventory for us to include in the software or crews can upload their inventory themselves at installation.

Points of Parity - How does Hang Xing Zhe match the competition?1. Analyses the chart and publications holdings of the vessel and automatically emails relevant NTMs and

Tracings to make it easier not to miss any corrections and to apply them correctly.2. Simple check list enables vessels to ensure they have corrected all the charts and publications they need

to and have got all the new editions they need on board.3. Provides a report to give to PSC inspectors to demonstrate compliance.4. Includes paper updates for multiple HOs so everything is in one place so its more efficient than having to

use multiple products/processes.5. Includes digital (ENC, ADP, eNP) updates (note: on request, simple upgrade process).6. Excellent data compression. Hang Xing Zhe compresses NtM files by 70% to minimise communications

costs. See above for competitive advantage on Japanese NtM file sizes.7. Like Novaco and Digtrace, its a very simple application. Installs quickly and easily. Works on low spec PCs

    - all Microsoft Operating Systems from Windows 2000 onwards so there’s no need to upgrade onboard PCs to use it.

    8. Approved by UK MCA and other Flag States as meeting the requirement to carry paper NtMs. With China MSA pending.

Principal competitors are ChartCo, Digitrace and Novaco

Potential Perceived Points of Weakness1. Lack of GIS interface2. Lack of China MSA approvalSee objection handling below for thoughts on addressing weaknesses.

    Differentiation and Competitive Summary

For Internal Use Only-Do Not Share Externally

  • What country NtMs are included?British Admiralty NtMs and Tracings, Chinese NGD and MSA chart updates, Australian, New Zealand, Japanese, Korean and many other Asian country NtMs.

What does a customer need to get started?Hang Xing Zhe is a standalone solution, customers do not need to have a chart management system to use it. The customer should supply their vessel inventory data to ensure that it is preloaded into the product.

When will it be available? From 20 October 2015

How much more will customers pay for communications costs?Data compression reduces file sizes by up to 70% and only relevant updates are sent to the vessel making it very cost efficient. Costs depend on the comms package used on board the vessel but can be calculated from the following typical weekly update file size (*) for different onboard chart collections:

Chart collection: 273 charts - BA only. NPs: 36. Average weekly update: 0,91 MB, maximum weekly update: 1,28 MB.

Chart collection: 1076 charts - BA, JP, US data. NPs: 77. Average weekly update: 1,43 MB, maximum weekly update: 2,65 MB.

Chart collection: 667 charts - BA only. NPs: 69. Average weekly update: 1,15 MB, maximum weekly update: 1,81 MB.

Chart collection: 1411 charts - BA, US data. NPs: 98. Average weekly update: 1,10 MB, maximum weekly update: 1,39 MB.

Chart collection: 690 charts - BA, JP data. NPs: 44. Average weekly update: 1,13 MB, maximum weekly update: 1,66 MB.

Chart collection: 328 charts, BA, JP data. NPs: 45. Average weekly update: 1,10 MB,maximum weekly update: 2,0 MB.

(*) Note: when sent onboard weekly update file is split as per ship’s request e.g. 250kb, 500kb, etc.

Are paper and digital updates included?Hang Xing Zhe is primarily a paper updating service but digital updates can be included for AVCS, ADP, eNPs and PRIMAR.

Explain the relationship between Hang Xing Zhe and eData? They are the essentially same product but HXZ is Chinese language for the Chinese market.

Whats the difference between this and Voyager? They are different products with different code bases and different development programmes.Unlike Voyager: • HXZ is in Chinese for the Chinese market. • It is specifically designed to be used to manage

paper [and digital] chart and publication updates.

    • HXZ is tabular and does not include a GIS interface.

    • HXZ doesn’t include other services required for passage planning like route optimisation, etc.

  • More information

    Obstacles and Objections

Obstacle Objection HXZ doesn’t include a GIS interface. • That is also its strength!

    • Its simple to get started, fast to install, simple to use and works on low spec PCs.

HXZ doesn’t have China MSA ap-proval.

    • China MSA approval is pending but you don’t need it to get the benefits of HXZ. You only need approval if you are going to stop sending the paper NtMs and that’s only a secondary reason why you would subscribe to HXZ.

    • The reason you buy this is to avoid deficiencies by making it hard for crews to make mistakes, miss things, etc. That doesn’t require Flag State approval.

We are using a competitor and don’t want to switch.

    • Explore potential problems with support, being tied to a com-pany for Outfit Management (if using Digitrace) and using Eng-lish language software if crew’s first language is Chinese.

    • Retraining of crews: Hang Xing Zhe is very simple to use and if crew are used to using a Chart Management

    • Service, they will find this even easier.• Hassel of re-installation: Very easy to install plus we have an

experienced technical service team on hand who speak your language if you experience any problems.

    • We will load each vessel inventory into the software for you as part of the service, after that updates are sent weekly and the file sizes are exceptionally small.

It’s too expensive. • Small price to pay for reduction in deficiencies, avoidance of navigation related compliance issue and a better compliance record.

    • Other additional benefits include consistent/easier to manage approach across all vessels, low support costs, minimal training requirements.

    • If price is the only objection, introduce the Enterprise licence option as a means to get the benefits for a reduced per vessel cost.

I am happy to stick with the old way of doing things. I don’t see the need for this sort of thing.

Acknowledgement that the old way has worked for a long time but further explore their main problems:• The number of deficiencies/detentions they have got in the last

12 months.• Money spent buying and publications urgently in remote ports

to avoid fines and other penalties.• Money spent shipping physical NMs and other paper prod-

ucts to vessel around the world.

  • More Information

Customer problem How Hang Xing Zhe helps Avoiding deficiencies and detentions and generally improving compliance and safe-ty records.

In 2015 (Jan to Oct), 330 Chinese flag registered vessels had deficiencies with approximately 15% being navigation related. One resulted in detention.

HXZ helps crews manage their updates quickly and easily and reduces errors in chart and publication corrections and inventory management.

Clearly identifies paper charts and publications to be updated. Reporting tools aid Port State Inspections because enables crews to easily demonstrate compliance. Reports are in English and Chinese so work internationally.

Maritime solutions aren’t made for China/Chinese crews. Everything is always in English so it’s hard for Chinese speaking crews to implement, to use and get support.

HXZ is in Chinese, sold by Chinese companies, supported by Chinese speaking people in China and Singapore. For the first time Chinese crews have a viable way to maintain charts and publications on board more efficiently. Software in their native language with support from people that will understand them and provide support they can understand and benefit from.

Crew struggling to keep everything in order and up to date

Context:Crews increasingly smaller, less experi-enced and/or increasingly busy.

Hang Xing Zhe is easy to use and will save hours currently spent time consuming but essential updating.

Includes BA and Chinese updates as well as other countries like Korea and Japan and Australia so everything is in one place. Simple upgrade to get access to digital updates too – again all in one place.

Worrying about overspending on charts and publications.

Context:Pressure on operational costs following the biggest recession shipping has ever experienced is still intense.

The vessel doesnt need a GNS New Edition service to get the benefit of HXZ. In fact using it helps crews to manage adhoc purchases more effectively too by notifying the crew about New Editions ahead of their publication.Hang Xing Zhe compression tool reduces NtMs and Tracings to very small file sizes keeping communications costs down. Crew can receive weekly updates at minimal cost meaning they will be compliant and up to date without having to wait for ves-sel to arrive in port to receive new NtMs.

Managing repetitive work efficiently on board and reducing the risk of error

Automation of tasks like checking which charts and publications need to be updated. Only updates that are relevant to vessel inventory are sent, meaning crew does not need to sift through pages of NtMs each week.
