13. DRUG TESTING

NCAA championship committees, following a recommendation from the NCAA drug-testing subcommittee, have discontinued the practice of announcing whether drug testing will be conducted at NCAA championship events.

Although knowing prior to competition whether NCAA drug testing was to occur had value for reasons of convenience, it left open the possibility that student-athletes might be tempted to use banned substances if they knew that NCAA testing was not being conducted at the site of competition.

Therefore, all coaches and student athletes should presume that NCAA drug testing will occur at this championship event. Please inform your student-athletes that in the event they are notified of their selection for drug testing, the student-athlete must inform an official representative of your institution (e.g., coach, athletic trainer) before proceeding to the drug-testing site. Student-athletes will be reminded by the courier to contact their team representative.

14. CROWD MANAGEMENT

The responsibility for crowd management rests with the tournament director and the NCAA women’s bowling committee. The directors of athletics of the competing institutions are expected to communicate with their student-athletes and fans to encourage enthusiastic support within the confines of good sportsmanship.

15. HOSPITALITY ROOM/PARTICIPANT HOSPITALITY

The NCAA hospitality/meeting area will be located behind lanes 65 & 66. Participant hospitality will be located in rooms in the lounge near lanes 29 & 30. (See Internal Venue Map.)

16. PRESS ROOM & POST-MATCH INTERVIEWS

Press room and post-match interviews will be held in one of the hospitality areas or in the media center room.

17. CONDUCT OF PARTICIPANTS

Misconduct in an NCAA championship is any act of dishonesty, unsportsmanlike conduct, unprofessional behavior or breach of law, occurring from the time the championship field is announced through the end of the championship, that discredits the event or intercollegiate athletics. The women’s bowling committee, or the games committee authorized to act for it, may impose any one or a combination of the following penalties on an institution or any student-athlete or representative of an institution for misconduct that occurs incident to, en-route to or from, or at the locale of the competition or practice: (1) reprimand publicly or privately; (2) disqualify from future participation in championship; (3) ban the individual from participation in subsequent championship competition; (4) cancellation of all or a portion of payment to the institution of transportation and/or per diem allowance for the individuals involved; (5) withholding of all or a portion of the institution's share of revenue; (6) banishment of the institution from participation in one or more subsequent championships; (7) disqualification of an institution for a period of time from serving as a host institution; (8) cancellation of all or a portion of the honorarium for hosting a championship; and (9) financial or other penalties different from Nos. 1 through 8, but only if they have prior approval of the NCAA Executive Committee.

18. AWARDS

First-place, second-place and semifinalist (2) team trophies and 13 individual awards for first-place, second-place and semifinalist teams will be awarded. Ten participant medallions will be provided to each of the remaining four teams in the championship. An awards ceremony will be held immediately after Round 4, after Round (5) (if necessary) and after the championship final. Any student-athlete who bowls a 300 game during the championship will receive a certificate. Elite 88 Award: Beginning with the 2009-10 championships season, the NCAA instituted an academic recognition award program, which is entitled the Elite 88. The award will be presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average competing at the finals site for each of the NCAA’s 88 championships. Each institution participating at the finals site of an NCAA championship is required to submit the appropriate paperwork for the student-athlete with the highest GPA on the team. All documents and nomination forms can be obtained by accessing the link below. The submission deadline for nomination for women’s bowling is 5 p.m. Eastern time Monday, March 29. For more information regarding this program, please contact Mark Bedics, associate director of media coordination and championships, at [email protected] or 317/917-6541.
