Part-Time Organist
Christ Episcopal Church, Temple seeks a part-time Organist to
play organ and piano for worship services, choir rehearsals,
weddings and funerals.
CHRIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH
Christ Episcopal Church is a thriving 135 year-old parish founded in the rich
tradition of liturgy, music and service to God’s world. We are located in the heart of
Temple, TX Temple enjoys the distinction of being the demographic center of
Texas. With the major cities of Austin, Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, and San
Antonio all within three hours. Temple uniquely offers the best aspects of two
worlds: the conveniences of big city dwelling and the atmosphere of a small town.
Christ Episcopal Church welcomes all. Our mission is “knowing Christ and making
Him known” which we do especially through worship, children’s and youth
ministries, adult education, mission and outreach. We strive to continually find new
and exciting ways to live out our faith life together.
Our congregation is a blend of long-time Temple families and newcomers, life-long
Episcopalians and those new to the Episcopal Church. We are the spiritual home of
young-adult and mid-life singles, couples of all ages, families with toddlers,
elementary aged children and/or teens, as well as many active seniors in the prime
of life.
Christ Episcopal Church provides lifelong discipleship for all, through worship and
education, Bible and book studies, and opportunities for mission work, both within
the community and beyond. We are called to build community in Christ’s name.

of all instruments of the church, advising as

the music at various services, working with
other staff on new or additional musical
offerings for the parish. Any candidate should
have had some work experience as a church
organist. A Bachelor of Music or a Bachelor of
Arts degree or higher is preferred.
THE INSTRUMENTS
Christ Church has an Allen Digital Customized Organ
that was designed specifically for the acoustic space
and the worship style of Christ Church by the Allen
Organ Company. It is one-of-a-kind. Each stop was
individually voiced for the acoustics of the room after
it was installed. It is a magnificent treasure that very
effectively leads the congregation in worship on
Sundays. It is also a very fine concert instrument.
Also in the Chancel area is a Steinway upright piano.
It is used to accompany the choir and soloists. It too is
a fine instrument.
The Parish Hall has both a Kawai grand and a small
self-contained Britson organ. These were both
invaluable during the 13 months we were “out of the
church” while the Restoration was underway and
worship was in the Parish Hall.
There are two other spinet-type pianos. One is in the
choir room and one is in the Parlor.
There is also a 3-octave set of Schulmerich Handbells.

Ideally, the new Organist will begin July 1, 2018. For a candidate who is particularly well suited to the
position, an alternate start date may be negotiable. Competitive salary to be based on education and
experience. To apply, please send a cover letter, curriculum vitae and contact information for at least
three references to [email protected] by June 15, 2018. Any questions about the church,
