The Parma Area Chamber of Commerce serves the cities of Parma, Parma Heights and Seven Hills. Each city is conveniently located to downtown Cleveland and area freeways. The three cities offer quality education, an array of shopping sites, numerous family parks, and varied recreational opportunities.

The Parma Area Chamber of Commerce is the pro-active voice of its members, as well as the businesses and residential community. The Chamber promotes, encourages, and protects the development of professional, commercial, industrial, and general business interests of the area. For over 50 years, the Parma Area Chamber of Commerce has been welcoming visitors, new residents and providing forums for our member businesses to flourish. We collectively make a difference through partnerships with government, education and associate organizations to help make the tri-city area a better place to live, work and play. We continue to maintain a strong core membership, develop new programs and react to the ever-changing economic and social environment. As advocates for the business sector, the Chamber provides leadership and services to local businesses and offers members the opportunity to promote their businesses through a variety of events such as monthly luncheons and business after hours.

The Parma Area Chamber of Commerce also takes a very active role in the community by participating in CBS (Community, Business, Schools)

Partnership. The Parma Area Chamber together with the Parma City School District founded CBS in 1991. This collaboration has been recognized many times as one of the best community partnerships in the State of Ohio. We also support local students through an Annual Business Scholarship and the Don Reiman Pre-Law scholarship. The Parma Area Chamber is also host to the area’s largest annual community event, the Rib ‘N Rock Cook-Off. With support from local businesses, this family-friendly festival features a competition for best ribs and best sauce

along with top-notch entertainment, rides and an array of ethnic foods. Membership in the Chamber is a great business decision that gives businesses

a competitive “Edge” in the regional business community and the Parma Area Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to making Parma, Parma Heights, and Seven Hills a better place to live, work and conduct business.

We encourage your support of the many local businesses that helped make this publication possible and we hope you use this directory to discover the business, recreational and residential opportunities our area has to offer.

Please give us a call at 440-886-1700 if we can be of service and we hope you will utilize and enjoy the 2012 Community Guide. Thank you.

The City of Parma Welcome! I am proud to serve as Parma’s 14th mayor because Parma is a city in which cultures come together and people take pride in being good neigh-bors. The City is Ohio’s seventh-largest, which makes it a prime candidate for being a big player in Northeast Ohio’s

success. I believe the city can be a genuine leader and a real piece of the puzzle for our region’s success.

The diversity in our businesses and our people should be celebrated. GM is the number one auto

manufacturer in the world, and the GM stamping plant is thriving here in Parma. On the other end of the spectrum, small independent businesses are alive and well here, too. Just look at the small businesses that dot the city’s

landscape. Our administration has made it a priority to create

and encourage dialogue with Parma’s business community. So far, we have held two economic summit meetings with local businesses and our early success with these meetings is gratifying as we plan more.

As Recreation Director of the City of Parma, I am very fortunate to be part of a new administration headed by Mayor Tim DeGeeter who values the impor-tance of recreation for residents of all ages. The phi-losophy we would like to institute in the City of Parma is one of safety, participation and sportsmanship. We encourage active participation and family enjoyment of the City of Parma’s facilities and recreation programs.

Parma offers many amenities to our youth throughout the City. Some of these amenities are at our Ries Youth Complex, which has five youth ball fields, tennis and basketball courts, playground, a pavilion and the Michael A. Ries Ice Rink.

Last fall, a new handicapped-accessible, ADA-approved playground was installed at Veterans Memorial Park. This playground structure has two separate modules that are geared towards children ages 2 through 4 and 6 through 12.

I am proud and honored to be a part of a City that offers the best in recreational activities for all ages. For more information

Parma Heights is a great place to live, work, and raise a family.

Our City offers quiet tree-lined streets, a delightful variety of restaurants featuring international and American cuisine, small businesses dedicated to customer satisfaction, and cultural opportunities that include live productions at the Cassidy Theatre located in our 35-acre Greenbrier Commons.

In Parma Heights, we pride ourselves on the fact that every citizen is within easy walking distance of a park. Our Recreation Department is always working to provide year-round activities for residents of all ages and programs include a partnership with the City of Brooklyn allowing our residents full access to their Recreation Center.

Our Safety forces are top notch with response times, among the best in Cuyahoga County. The City of Seven HillsThe City of Seven Hills is synonymous with the word “family”. Located at the center of the NE Ohio region, the City has primarily been home to generations of families since its 1927 founding. Living in Seven Hills allows our residents to share a close-knit community of friends and neighbors.

Seven Hills really has the best of it all, about 12,000 residents within 5 square miles, a community recreation center second to none, an expanding business community and schools rated “excellent” by the State of Ohio. A small-town feel with big city amenities, Seven Hills includes, or is just a few minutes away from world-class medical facilities, major

league sports, museums, restaurants and entertainment, a vibrant nightlife and a diverse community of experience and

traditions to share. Today, a demographic of

newer, younger families affords our City the opportunity to expand on all the things that have always made Seven Hills such a great

place to raise a family, while also offering more opportunities to business enterprises interested in locating here. Great amenities, prime location, skilled labor, great safety forces

and a local government interested in partnering with business—this is the 21st century Seven Hills.

Ours is truly a special community created by special residents. There are few places that can offer as much as our City, both in terms of quality of life and business and investment opportunities. Spend a while visiting Seven Hills. You will be pleased by what you discover!

Seven Hills Supports Its Senior ResidentsThe City of Seven Hills strives to aid and honor its senior citizens through assistance, programs and services offered through the Senior Citizen Coordinator’s office. Both the Community Recreation Center and City Hall serve as gathering places for social and informational support.

The Silver Sneakers Program lends itself well to Seven Hills and many senior residents take advantage of this and other programs on a daily basis. Seniors are the backbone of the community and Seven Hills is continually looking for creative and innovative ways to support them. Mayor Dell’Aquila, Seven Hills City Council and the Senior Department are all committed to creating and administering the best quality service and care for senior residents. This, among many other reasons, is why Seven Hills is a wonderful place to call home.

The Parma City School District

Committed to Student Success A District of ExcellenceThe Parma City School District is entering an exciting time of rebirth for the 2012-2013 school year. The district, which is

rated “Excellent” by the Ohio Department of Education, serves approximately 11,500 students from the communities of the City of Parma, Parma Heights and Seven Hills. Guided by Academic Excellence, Financial Responsibility, and Community Engagement, the PCSD is recognized for its commitment to developing confident students with the skills necessary to actively compete in a technological world.

Excellence and BeyondThrough a continuum of academic, vocational, and special education coursework, the Parma City School District is developing the leaders of the future. At the K-12 level, students will benefit in the new school year from “Block” and “Wheel” scheduling, allowing our learners longer periods of time to concentrate on subject material to help them master content. And PCSD teachers will benefit from new tools such as the web-based Performance Plus and Odyssey assessments to help them track each student’s progress and adjust their instruction to ensure students are challenged to achieve at the highest levels.

Financial ResponsibilityA continuation of the district’s building consolidation plan has allowed PCSD to increase efficiencies and improve programming through its 3 high schools, 3 middle schools, 8 elementary schools, and the multi-purpose Byer’s Field. With a commitment to fiscal responsibility, the consolidation is saving the district millions over the next few years. In addition, our schools are moving to a K-4; 5-7 and 8-12 grade configuration model, with care being taken to best accommodate students with

disabilities in every building.

Community EngagementEvery step of the way, the district is committed to maintaining quality educational practices to

build upon its reputation for excellent academic results despite limited funding. The Community/Business/Schools Partnership (CBS) is expanding to better match community resources with the needs of students. And the Parma Area Family Collaborative, which focuses on the well-being, safety and academic success of the children in our communities, is being relocated to the first floor of the old Pearl Road Elementary School to give families better access to the resources they need. The goal is not only to develop partnerships with a network of community organizations, but to remove barriers to help our students achieve.

With a busy year ahead, the Parma City School District will continue to focus on transparency and engagement with our community. An improved website, active social media outlets, and new programming through PAC-TV are just some of the ways to keep connected with your schools. We encourage our community to work with us as we move forward, by attending community dialogues, and joining us at building and district events throughout the year. Together, we will keep the Parma City School District a District of Excellence.

Community Colleges have received renewed atten-tion as a way to move the nation’s economy forward through job training and education. At Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C), we offer degrees to help people enter the workforce and training for those who need new skills to advance their careers.

Tri-C has a reputation as one of the best community colleges in the nation with more than 1,000 credit courses in nearly 150 career and technical programs. Located right here in Parma,

Cuyahoga Community College

Today’s Education Solution

Tri-C also offers a cost effective solution when students complete the first two years of college before transferring to another college to complete a baccalaureate degree.

The average person in the United States with a bachelor’s degree earns approximately two times as much as someone with just a high school education, and a college experience provides many opportunities for personal growth in addition to increased knowledge and earning power.

Educational opportunities exist for all ages at Tri-C. Many students return

after working or staying at home for a few years to learn new skills. And, approximately, 85 percent of Tri-C graduates remain in this area to work and improve their community.

During its more than 45 year history, Tri-C has served more than 900,000 people in Northeast Ohio. Tri-C will continue to serve the educational needs of the people in Parma.

Parma CommunityGeneral Hospital enters its second half-century as the sole independent community hospi-tal in the Cleveland area. The community can count on quality care – like the region’s first fully integrated 3D operating suite, ranking as the best hospital in the state for coronary interventions and therapy services located in a new YMCA – delivered in a uniquely personalized way.

In 2012, the nation’s leading quality rankings organization ranked Parma Hospital the best hospital in Ohio for coronary interventions and among the top hospitals in the state for overall cardiac services. HealthGrades gave Five-Star ratings to Parma Hospital for excellence in coronary bypass surgery, cardiology and coronary interventional procedures.

Parma Hospital was the first in the area to develop a Code STEMI program, which alerts hospital staff when a heart attack patient is en route. Time is muscle, and every second counts. The fastest STEMI on record is nine minutes, performed by Cardiologist Christine Zirafi, MD.

“Cardiac care at Parma Hospital is one of our signature service areas,” said Terrence G. Deis, president and CEO of Parma Hospital. “Those who work at the hospital and patients who’ve experienced our cardiac care have long known the quality we provide, but it is validating to have it recognized nationally by an independent quality rankings organization.”

From emergency heart procedures to planned surgeries, patients benefit from top-rated care at Parma Hospital. Parma Hospital is the first hospital in the greater Cleveland area to establish a fully integrated 3DHD laparoscopic operating suite. The 3D, high-definition view of the operative field gives surgeons heightened visual clarity of tissue and anatomy. The

Parma Community General Hospital

The Area’s Only Independent Community Hospital

latest version of the da Vinci Si robot further enhances the capabilities of surgeons performing complex procedures.

“Parma Community General Hospital understands that being at the forefront of the technology curve is of value not only to the surgeons and the hospital but also our patients,” Deis said. “We are pleased to be the leader in this area, and it emphasizes our commitment to providing high quality care in a more personalized, community environment.”

That emphasis on community further benefits Parma residents who are interested in joining the new Family YMCA in North Royalton. Parma Hospital has therapy services based at this new location at State and Wallings roads. The 7,500 square foot therapy center features a therapy pool and aquatic treadmill, seven consultation and treatment rooms and a therapy gym.

To us, it’s all vital. See ad on back cover.

I believe in getting more out of life.

My time is precious. Every moment counts. That’s why I chose Kaiser Permanente. My doctor is close to home, so when I go for a checkup, I can visit the lab and pharmacy, too—

all in one trip.

Back home, I can go online and e-mail my doctor, check most lab test results, schedule routine appointments, order most prescription refills, and more.*

I can even access these tools on my smartphone.

It’s that easy. This way, I have more time to spend on what matters most—life.

For more information about Kaiser Permanente, visit us online at kp.org.

*These features are available when you receive care at Kaiser Permanente medical centers. Care from practitioners you see outside our medical centers or the results of tests and screenings performed outside our medical centers may not be available online.

Yorktown Service Plaza’s story began in 1967, when a teenage boy with dreams of buying a GTO, took a job working in the auto repair shop of the corner gas station two blocks from home. Five years later,

in 1972, Doug Shull bought that service station and, with his new wife, began to operate the business; he doing automotive repairs in the two service bays, while she worked with the customers, managed the books and gasoline business for the two pumps that stood out front. He became an ASE Certified Master Technician and together they built a very trusted local business, with a loyal clientele, many of whom, along with their children, remain Yorktown Service Plaza customers today. Over the years, the sign out front has changed from Gulf Oil to Citgo to Valero. A restaurant, convenience store, car/van/truck wash and propane service were added. The two automobile service bays became a state-of-the-art 12-bay facility that can perform any service on any vehicle.

Yorktown Service Plaza also is one of the largest independent Goodyear dealers in Cleveland, offering daily prices better than any chain store’s sale price. As Yorktown celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2012, one thing hasn’t changed. You will still find owner Doug Shull here every day. If he doesn’t greet you at the service desk when you drop off your car, it’s probably because he’s in the shop making sure that every vehicle gets the same attention as his Father’s car. If you happen to stop in the convenience store, you will likely see his Father, Frank, visiting with whoever walks in.

Dr. McCluskey Celebrates 20 Yearst’s hard to believe that it’s been 20 years since my staff and I started Timber Ridge Neck and Back Pain Clinic. My, how time flies! We have run our clinic based on one very key principle that we’ve never strayed from.

Simply put... TAKE CARE OF OUR PATIENTS because these are the people who will take care of us. And, oh, how you’ve taken care of us! I truly believe that’s why we have survived while so many other clinics have closed throughout the years. We consider you a part of our Timber Ridge Family. Therefore, in this 20th year anniversary season... we want to give THANKS to our patients who have always been there for us. So as a token of our appreciation we want to give you a ‘special’ gift just for coming by. When you come into the clinic during these anniversary days in 2012, pick up your... Free Gift! It’s our way to say “thank you” for your support over all these years.

P.S. Ooops... I almost forgot. If you have never seen me and would like to become a new patient, simply give us a call at

440-884-0083 and we will give you your first day free. This is normally a $200+ value, but if you present a copy of this article

to the receptionist before treatment, it’s yours free. *Some restrictions may apply to Medicare beneficiaries.

the parma Area chamber of commerce and the council of smaller enterprises (cose) have formed an alliance that will benefit area businesses that are members of both organizations. Through a special joint membership agreement, businesses in Parma, Parma Heights and Seven Hills can now join both organizations and save $150 or more on what it would have cost to join each of them separately.

As a result of this unique partnership, area businesses get valuable exposure and resources in their local communities, while also getting the regional reach and buying power of COSE and its 15,000+ members. Plus, they will also get a bigger voice and a stronger advocate in City Hall, Columbus and Washington D.C.

This alliance is in addition to our efforts to work with other chambers in our region to offer additional networking and learning opportunities for our members. The Parma Area Chamber of Commerce also offers numerous benefits through membership in the Northern Ohio Area Chambers of Commerce (NOACC). Businesses can receive discounts from many different types of providers such as health insurance, workers compensation, utilities, and logistics.

The Council of Smaller Enterprises (COSE) was formed 40 years ago with a mission of helping small businesses succeed. COSE’s nearly 14,000 member companies benefit from numerous programs and events designed to help them generate business, expand knowledge, build connections and reduce costs.

Through an exciting partnership between the Parma Area Chamber of Commerce (PACC) and COSE, local businesses can join both organizations for one low price by contacting PACC at (440) 886-1700 ([email protected]) or COSE at (216) 592-2355 ([email protected]).
