Parkburn Precision Handling Systems Ltd is a specialist UK engineering company which designs, manufactures & installs onshore and offshore product handling systems, worldwide.

Parkburn equipment is used across a wide range of industrial manufacturing and marine construction markets, predominantly handling cables, pipes, umbilical’s, steel wire and fibre ropes.

In the autumn of 2002 Parkburn Controls acquired Dowty Precision Handling Systems and so Parkburn Precision Handling Systems was born. The new company combined the extensive experience and technical knowhow of Parkburn, a leading electrical drives and controls company, and Dowty, a leading mechanical & hydraulic engineering company to form a world leading marine handling systems & equipment provider.

Parkburn has invested heavily in the development and testing of a revolutionary New Concept in winch technology to provide safe handling of synthetic ropes.

• The Patented System allows construction vessel operators to significantly improve the heavy load deployment and retrieval capability of vessels in deep water, when compared with traditional steel wire rope methodologies allowing 100% crane / LARS payload capability, at unlimited depth.

• The Deep Water Capstan overcomes many of the issues with current traction or drum winch technologies and provides a safe, simple and “rope-friendly” process from storage to touchdown, through the incorporation of robust and highly controllable drives, integral AHC, a self-fleeting drum design, low impact high resolution ropede-tensioning and inherent rope cooling. • An A Lift-Line Management System (LMS) provides highly accurate real-time condition monitoring of the fibre rope, to provide operators added security and peace of mind when operating in some of the world’s harshest environments.

• This ground-breaking technology has now been integrated into the new MacGregor FibreTrac 1500 Crane capable of lifting payloads of 150T into 4,000m of water, with NO loss of performance. The crane is currently on the dock side pedestal in Norway going through the final stages of certification.

Since the mid 1980’s Parkburn has been providing bespoke Diving Bell Launch and Recovery Systems for deep sea saturated diving to a world-wide customer base.

In 2007 an important landmark system was designed, constructed and installed to the DSV Bibby Topaz; the industry’s first primarily electrically driven Bell Handling System, fully certified to Det Norske Veritas (DNV) Rules.

From this important milestone Parkburn continues to grow its order book and client coverage, providing both DSV and DSRV owners and operators technically advanced, reliable and rugged launch and recovery systems, with the option of incorporating either electric active heave compensation or hydraulic heave compensation with the option of either single or triple wire bell handling designs.
