March 15, 2013 Dear Parent or Guardian,

Our staff will soon begin to build classes for the 2013-2014 school year. This is one of our most important tasks to prepare for the coming year. Throughout this process, our goal is to place students in the best possible learning setting. We try to build classes that are balanced in terms of learning needs and styles, gender, emotional and social development, academic achievement, and behavior.

We welcome parent involvement in this process, as we recognize that parents know their children better than anyone else. If you would like to offer insight, share your perspective, or express a need on behalf of your child, we invite you to write a letter and submit it to the main office. Because it is very difficult to grant requests for specific teachers, we ask that your letter focus on your child's learning style, significant learning experiences for him/her, and/or the type of teaching style to which your child responds best.

We ask that all requests be submitted no later than Friday, April 26. We will use the information you provide, along with input from teachers, to place your child in a classroom that will best meet his or her needs.

Sincerely,

Matt Melamed David Dinsmore

Park School Campus Notes / Activities

March 15, 2013 Child Safety Announcement: Please continue to put child safety first at all times. We regularly receive reports of speeding cars throughout the neighborhood. Keep in mind there are many small children walking to and from school. It is everyone's responsibility to be cautious of their safety. We are constantly looking to improve the arrival and dismissal process but child safety is our first concern. Many parents have noticed an increased police presence during arrival and dismissal. We regularly work with the Round Lake Police Department to evaluate procedures. They are currently attempting to assist us in alleviating congestion on Townline Road, while maintaining a safe arrival/dismissal process. No permanent changes have been made to our arrival and dismissal process, but the RLPD will occasionally be on hand to evaluate our procedures and assist in the implementation of new ideas. Please continue to be patient, drive slowly, and obey all traffic laws when pulling in and out of the parking lot. When dropping off, please be sure to have children exit on the curbside of the vehicle where staff members are available to assist and keep kids safe. Thanks for your continued assistance. Grayslake School District Science Night April 23, Frederick School

A Science Night is when boys and girls can come with their families and experience a variety of science and technology experiments. The experiments will be led by local science professionals and scouting volunteers. The goal is to make science hands on and interactive for all students. The night will include 15-20 experiments that will last 5-10 minutes and each will run from 6:30-8:30. Students will get to choose the experiments they want to be involved with. Concepts experiments could reinforce include but are not limited to:

• Newton’s third law of motion • Surface tension • Air pressure • Nature of polymers • Aerodynamics • Chromatography • Physics of simple machines • Cellular biology and life science • Chemical reactions • Density • Mass • Magnetism • Scientific method

These nights will be open to all boys and girls in grades K-8. Opportunity to learn more about and sign up for the Boy Scouts will be provided to all families in attendance. Nights are provided free of cost to the school. Schools can help make the night successful by making sure that families and teachers are know about the night.
