The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Exodus 24:3-8. Hebrews 9:11-15. Mark 14:12-16, 22-26) The Holy Eucharist is a precious gift Jesus has given to us as our spiritual food. We believe in the “Real Presence” of Jesus in the Hoy Eucharist because (1) Jesus promised it after feeding the 5,000. (2) Jesus instituted the Holy Eucharist during his Last Supper. (3) Jesus commanded his disciples to repeat it in his memory. We explain the real presence of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist by: “ transubstantiation: which means that the substance of the consecrated bread and wine is changed to the substance of the risen Jesus’ glorified Body and Blood by the action of the Holy Spirit, and its accidents (like color, shape, taste, etc.), remain the same. Scripture lessons: This year’s readings of the Feast emphasize the theme of Covenant blood because the ancient people sealed Covenants with the blood of ritually sacrificed animals and Jesus sealed his New Covenant with his own Blood shed on Calvary. Today’s first reading describes how Moses, by sprinkling the blood of a sacrificed animal on the altar and on the people, accepted the Covenant Yahweh proposed and made with His People. In the second reading, St. Paul affirms that Jesus sealed the New Covenant with his own Blood, thereby putting an end to animal sacrifices. Today’s Gospel details how Jesus converted his ancient ritual into a Sacrament and sacrifice. Instead of the lamb’s blood, Jesus offered his own Di-vine/human Body and Blood, and instead of sprinkling us with blood, Jesus put into our hands as food and drink: Take...eat...this IS my Body which will be given up for you”. (He did not say, “This represents my body”), and “Take...drink… This is...my Blood, the Blood of the new and eternal Covenant, which will be poured out for you and for many… (nor did he say, “This represents my blood…”). A Sacrament and a sacrifice: Jesus instituted the Holy Eucharist both as a Sacramental banquet and a sacrificial offering. As a Sacrament, a) the Eucharist is a visible sign that gives us God’s grace and God’s life and, b) as a Meal, the Eucharist nourishes our souls. As a sacrifice, a) the Eucharistic celebration is a re-representation or re-enactment of Jesus’ sacrifice on Calvary, completed in the Resurrection b) we offer Jesus’ sacrifice to God the Father for the remission of our sins, using signs and symbols. Life messages: 1) Let us appreciate the “Real Presence” of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist, by receiving him with repentance for our sins, due preparation and reverence. 2) Let us be Christ-bearers and conveyers: By receiving Holy Communion, we became Christ-bearers as Mary was, with the duty of conveying Christ to others at home and in the workplace, through love, mercy, forgiveness and humble and sacrificial service. 3) Let us offer our lives on the altar along with Jesus’ sacrifice, asking pardon for our sins, expressing gratitude for the blessings we have received and presenting our needs and petitions on the altar.

God loves you! Father Eric

CEMETERY GUIDELINES The week of June 11, anything that is loose on the gravestones will be taken off. These items will be brought to the parish office. The lawn mowing company now blows off the gravestones when the grass is thick. These items also get blown off when this is done. If you want to glue these items to the bottom of the gravestone, it was suggested you use locktite. All plants/flowers and other items that are not in permanent stands that are placed for Memorial Day will need to be re-moved two weeks after Memorial Day

Most of the women in the parish will receive letters in the mail ask-ing for bars, salads or to work at the salad luncheon. Also, all the women of the parish will receive raffle tick-ets for the quilt that will be raffled off this fall at the Au-tumn Buffet. The Wednesday Quilters donated their time and talents on this beautiful quilt. It will be dis-played at the salad luncheon. We hope everyone will make plans to attend the salad luncheon. The cost for the salad luncheon is $8.00. Children under five are free.

“While they were eating, he took bread, said the bless-ing, broke it, and gave it to them, and said, "Take it; this is my body." Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, and they all drank from it. He said to them, "This is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed for many." - Mk 14:22-24 Excerpts from the Lectionary for Mass ©2001, 1998, 1970 CCD

COKE WAGON The Saint Francis Mission Trip Youth and their parents will be serving food out of the Coke wagon at Nilssen’s. They will be serving brats or hot dogs, chips and pop for $3.50 from 10:00am-6:00pm June 14 & 15. Come support our youth and enjoy some good food.

EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP What else is there to give when one has already given away their body and their life? What more can one say or do to demonstrate love for another when all they have has been given to another? This total giving of self to loved ones can-not be trumped by flowery words or material gifts that are fleeting. This is the ultimate in love. This is the love Jesus had for us on the way to his passion, at the institution of the Holy Eucharist. This is the love he has for us daily in the celebration of the Mass on altars in every church, in every city, in every nation on earth. No one can give more. No one can ask for more. This is the true heart of Christian steward-ship. If you take the time to gaze upon your God in the sim-plest of forms and begin to reflect on what has actually taken place with bread and wine becoming the presence of the Di-vine, then you can begin to understand true humility, sacri-fice, and love. And when you have the privilege to take that Real Presence into your body at the meal where you are an honored guest, you become one with the one who is the em-bodiment of stewardship. Then, you must ask the question of yourself, "How can I even begin to reflect the love that I have encountered at this feast?" The answer is you can begin with the simple actions of the day: where will you go, whom will you meet, and in what work will you partake? Jesus Christ has shown that the greatest gift ever given can be dis-guised in this world in a piece of bread. By joining your body to his, he can now transform human hearts, not by grand acts but by everyday acts, by everyday people, practicing Every-day Stewardship. -Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS
