PLEASE EXTEND A WARM WELCOME TO DEACON PATRICK FINN who will be with us

at Parish of the Holy Eucharist as part of our clergy for the next several months. Patrick graduated from Morse High School in Bath and attended Franciscan University of Steubenville in Ohio. After he received his degree in theology, he entered formation with the Franciscan Friars of the Third Order Regular. He

attended the Catholic University of America and earned a master of divinity degree in 2012, but around that same time, he left the Franciscans. “I had so many awesome opportunities as a friar, and I learned and experienced so much that I never could have gotten elsewhere,” said Deacon Finn. “But God made it clear that this particular community wasn’t where I needed to be.” He got a job as the communications director for the Black and Indian Mission Office in Washington, D.C., founded by the U.S. Catholic Bishops, and after 14 months there, was excited to have a job opportunity that would allow him to return home. He became director of faith formation for Prince of Peace Parish in Lewiston. He said being in Maine and being surrounded by several longtime priest friends made him reflect again on his call to the priesthood, and he decided the apply to the Diocese of Portland. He said, “The Lord’s taken it from there.” Finn completed two additional years of theological study at Saint John’s Seminary in Brighton, Massachusetts, which has led to his ordination to the transitional diaconate by Bishop Robert Deeley in a Mass celebrated at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland, on Sunday, October 8, 2017.

MEMORIAL BOOK OF INTENTIONS We will place a book of intentions at each church during the month of November. Please enter the names of your deceased loved ones. We will include a petition for the souls of those listed in the book during all masses in November. ADORATION MINISTRY Can you spend an hour with me? Holy Martyrs, Monday 8 am to 6:30 pm during October St. Gregory, Friday 8:30 am to 12:30 pm Is God calling you to sit in quiet contemplative prayer with Him in Adoration? Adorers needed at Holy Martyrs for the 11:00 am, 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm hours. FMI: Jenny Manago at 847-514-1813, or email [email protected]

ROSARY MINISTRY Join us for group rosary on Saturdays at Holy Martyrs and St. Gregory at 3:30 pm, prior to the 4 pm Mass. The rosary is also recited on Wednesday mornings at Sacred Heart before morning Mass and after daily Mass on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at Holy Martyrs.

RESPECT LIFE MINISTRY Pro-Life Meditations on the "Joyful Mysteries" of the Rosary By Fr. Frank Pavone The Annunciation Mary is troubled by the angel's greeting, yet rejoices to do God's will. Let us pray that those who are troubled by their pregnancy may have the grace to trust in God's will. The Visitation John the Baptist leapt for joy in his mother's womb. We pray that people may realize that abortion is not about children who "might" come into the world, but is about children who are already in the world, living and growing in the womb, and are scheduled to be killed. The Nativity God Himself was born as a child. The greatness of a person does not depend on size, for the newborn King is very small. Let us pray for an end to prejudice against the tiny babies threatened by abortion. The Presentation The Child is presented in the Temple because the Child belongs to God. Children are not the property of their parents, nor of the government. They - and we - belong to God Himself. The Finding of Jesus in the Temple The boy Jesus was filled with wisdom, because He is God. Let us pray that all people may see the wisdom of His teachings about the dignity of life, and may understand that this teaching is not an opinion, but the truth.

THE FIRST WORLD DAY OF THE POOR will be observed on

Sunday, November 19, 2017. In his apostolic letter to close the Year of Mercy, Pope Francis suggested the Catholic Church set aside one day each year when communities can “reflect on how poverty is at the very heart of the Gospel.” “As long as Lazarus lies at the door of our homes (cf. Luke 16:19–21), there can be no justice or social peace.” –Pope Francis Consider praying for the poor this week. There are so many people who need our prayers. If you’re overwhelmed and not sure where to start, try praying with your newsfeed. As you see headlines about what’s happening around the world, pause and pray for the people affected by those stories.

Adult Faith Formation THAT MAN IS YOU meets on Saturdays from 6:45am to 8:00am at Sacred Heart. If you are a husband or father, we would love to have you join us for lessons and discussions about how we can all more fully live our mission as Christian men and family leaders. All parishioners and Symbolon participants are invited to Sacred Heart Church on Saturday, November 11 at 5 pm for a parishwide potluck and SYMBOLONN Jeopardy Game. We really hope for a great representation from all the Symbolon Groups held at the churches and from those who watched the videos at home. Come join us as we wrap up our fall SYMBOLON Session. Part Two of our parishwide study will begin in January. An Evening of Recollection for Men will be held at Holy Martyrs on Wednesday, November 15, 6 pm. Financial Peace University will be having 2 more sessions on November 13 and 20 at Sacred Heart, 6:30 pm. Do you ever wondered about the Catholic faith? Are you or someone you know feeling a strange inner pull to look into the Church ? That spiritual longing is God drawing you back to Himself. God never forces; He only invites. Catherine Gallerizzo is our new evangelization coordinator. Give her a call at 847-6884 to start the conversation. Advent Small Groups will begin the last week of November. We invite all parishioners to make this Advent a time of spiritual growth by dedicating time each week to reflect on the Scripture readings for the week. Keep your faith at the center during this season of preparation for Christmas. Prayerfully consider how God is inviting you to make this Advent different. Sign ups and more information will be in next weekend’s bulletin.

High school Faith Formation Called High School YM – Grades 9-12 Next weekend, November 19 – “Longing for God?” - When you don’t know where to start. Come find out why you have this longing in your heart that can’t and won’t ever be filled by the world.

Deepening our Faith 7

Growing our Faith Together Family Formation, Grade PK to 5 No sessions on Sunday, November 12 Week of Nov 12 - This week, we think about Jesus’ story of the 5 girls who wisely bring extra oil for their small lamps as they wait for a bridegroom to come for his bride, and the 5 foolish girls who don’t. Jesus asks us to be ready to meet Him as He comes to us in our daily life, to be ready, and not to wait until later. Remember your weekly green family envelope as you leave Mass! Come prepare for Thanksgiving and Advent as a family. Join us for a family potluck and interactive activities. All parishioners welcome. Wednesday November 15, St. Jude Church, 5:30 pm Thanksgiving appeal to families: Donations for Thanksgiving baskets & dinners are being collected at all churches. This is a great opportunity for families to learn together about the works of Mercy. Details are on page 8. Help will be needed sorting and delivering the baskets just before Thanksgiving. Advent kit items will be available at each of our churches On November 25/26 and December 2/3. Items will include wreaths, candles, family prayers & blessings, interactive activities for children and teens, and reflection booklets. Catholic Boys Scout and Cub Scouts Fr. Daniel is asking if any adults would be interested in starting a scouting program in the parish. In the boys scouts, the parish signs the charter and provides space and support to the boys scouts. The girl scouts already gather in Gray. However, the need is to find adults who are interested in leading the boys scouts or cub scouts programs and instilling a Catholic context to the mission. If you are interested, please contact Fr. Daniel at 553-7041 or his email: [email protected]. Our communities currently have very strong troops and we do not desire to compete with them. Instead, some parents are looking for a troop that has a solid Catholic environment and connection to the Church as their children work their way through scouting. Catholic Scouting Emblems It is the time of year for scouts to begin earning their Catholic Emblems that are offered through the Catholic Committee on Scouting. Any Catholic is eligible regardless of what organization charters or sponsors the pack or troop. The emblem are the following: Cub Scouts: Light of Christ Ages 6-7; Parvuli Dei Ages 8-10 Boys Scouts: Ad Altare Dei Ages 13-14; Pope Pius XII Ages 15-16 Girl Scouts: The Family of God Ages 7-9; I Live My Faith Ages 9-11; The Marian Medal Ages 12-15; The spirit Alive for Senior Scouts.
