STEWARDSHIP MOMENTS “Not as man sees does God see, because man sees the appearance but the Lord looks into the heart.” – 1 Sam-uel 16:7
How often do we invest our time, talent and treasure in creating an appearance that does not matter at all to God? We strive to impress with our clothing, home, ca-reer, possessions, car and other marks of distinction. But none of these illusions of greatness will impress God. Instead, He will look into our hearts to see how much we loved Him, how much we loved others and how we showed that love by the way we used our time, talents and treasure here on earth.

SEEING IS BELIEVING. Today, Jesus heals a man born blind. The man later meets Jesus, who
asks him if he believes in the Son of Man. “Who is he?” “The one speaking with you.” Then the
man worships Jesus and professes, “I do believe, Lord.”
What a literal application of the saying, seeing is believing. Jesus gives sight to a man who
then puts his faith in Jesus.
How does it work for us? For the man in the Gospel, getting physical sight leads to a spir-
itual seeing, faith. For those who just open their eyes and see automatically without any miracle, how do we believe?
This winter, lots a people have been battling severe colds. They hope to tamp down the effects with meds. Be the meds
or the sickness, one experiences how the pistons aren’t all firing upstairs. ‘Seeing’ anything mentally or spiritually is tough.
‘Connecting the dots’ to ‘see’ any deeper truth is like sending a messenger in snowshoes across drifts to trace a figure in a
field. Even after trudging out his course, by the time he returns the winds have erased his tracks.
Fortunately, we’re not always been this woozy. In former times, we’ve seen things. Now, you have to trust what you ‘used
to see.’ The simplest formulas can escape us sometimes, but we have tools to help us recover our faded memories.
But here, there’s another kind of miracle. Despite the mental sludge that makes ‘seeing’ almost impossible, we find that we
still believe.
Sometimes seeing is believing, other times believing is what happens when we can’t see. It’s one thing to come to faith
and another thing to remain faithful.
Coming to faith has to entail some degree of seeing. You put your faith in something that at some point in your life made
sense to you. That is, you saw something. You recognized that Jesus Christ filled a gaping void in your life and you felt safe,
thus saved.
Remaining faithful oftentimes entails a lack of sight. We believe because we do not see
clearly where life is going. Maybe it’s like when you say, ‘I believe that sounds like so-‘n-so’s car
pulling in the driveway.’
Whether we see him or not, the Lord Jesus is right there in front of us, right there in the cen-
ter of our being, our family, in the Poor, etc.
Lent is a time for turning mercifully to those in need. See him or not, Jesus is out there in
abundance. It is a special kind of spiritual sight that looks for ways to give to those near and far
who will never be able, in this life, to see you and say Thanks. But because we believe, we give.
Would you say that giving is a kind of seeing?

LAST FISH FRY & BAKE SALE— April 7 at
ST. Mark’s Parish Hall from 4:30 to 7pm.
Adults $10—Kids $5
Congratulations to our Confirmands. Saturday morn-
ing, Mar 25, Bishop Folda confirmed children from Bottineau,
Westhope, Rolla, and Rock Lake.
In our parishes of St. Andrew’s and St. Mark’s, this week-
end I will be enrolling the newly confirmed in the Confraternity
of Mount Carmel and they will receive from their parish as a
gift a Rosary and a Brown Scapular.
In the year 1251, in the town of Aylesford in
England, Our Lady appeared to St. Simon
Stock, a Carmelite. She handed him a brown
woolen scapular and said, “This shall be a privi-
lege for you and all Carmelites, that anyone dying in this habit
shall not suffer eternal fire.” In time, the Church extended this
magnificent privilege to all the laity who are willing to be in-
vested in the Brown Scapular of the Carmelites and who per-
petually wear it.
Saint Mark’s feast—will be celebrated on April 30th. We will put out some sign-up sheets for attendance starting next weekend, April 1st through April 20th. We are all encouraged to sign-up and participate in our patron’s feast.
God’s Gift Appeal. The blind man was willing to let Jesus minister to him and willingly did all Jesus asked of him. The Pharisees were resistant to His message. They spent their time and energy disproving the miracle. How am I spending my time and energy? Lent is a great time to make your donation to
God’s Gift, energy for the Kingdom at home and abroad.

Some ideas for this Lenten Season—
1. Pray for the people on our parish prayer list. 2. Pray for priest, deacons and religious. 3. Pray for the millions of Christians suffering under per-secution in various Muslim and Communist countries around the world such as Somalia, Ni-geria, Syria, Iraq, Indonesia,
China, Viet Nam, and North Korea. 4. Pray for Christian unity, that there would be one flock and one shepherd. 5. Pray for the evangelization of those who have not yet accepted the Good News about Jesus. 6. Pray for your enemies. Think of a person who has hurt you or who annoys you. Thank God for that per-son and ask God to bless him or her.
FELLOWSHIP Charisms, Saints, & Me. Carla Eisenzimmer is leading a unique study Thurs evenings, 7 pm, in St. Mark’s rectory base-ment. We are considering the various charisms in the life of the Church, how they are exemplified in the lives of the Saints, and how they help us discover our own unique gifts as members of God’s family.
Support for community members that are dealing with the death or terminal illness We are interested in forming a planning committee that will help us improve how we may improve our support for families that are experiencing, or have experienced, the death or ter-minal illness of a loved one. Please contact Warren Emmer 701-220-5041 or Janel Agnes 701-201-0294.
