our mission

As God’s people, we will share the love of God in a way that nurtures body, mind and spirit. Demonstrating God’s love for the world, we will serve a diverse population and accept one another without reservations. By including all people as one family in worship and service to God, we are all empowered and inspired by

the Spirit to continue the work of Jesus Christ.

The Altar Flowers are given in the hope of equality and justice for all.

In the same way that the disciples followed Jesus and shared with him for hours (John 1:39) we will follow the legacy of MLK and connect with his current reverberations. I am excited to learn and grow with you Sunday the 15th both as a community member and as someone committed to the Movement for Black Lives.”

TODAY IN THE CHURCH SCHOOL Children at Trinity meet most Sundays for the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program (CGS). Since each Level of the program covers a range of ages, often several lessons are offered each Sunday, with most children taking part in only one. Today Level I will work with the materials related to the parables of the Mustard Seed and of the Leaven. Level II will work with the wooden model of all the books of the Bible, and work with the materials depicting the parables of the Ten Bridesmaids and the Wedding Feast. Level III will begin considering the Old Testament accounts of the lives of Abraham and Sarah, this week focusing on their call.

about pledging

Our vision of Stewardship recognizes that God is the giver and has blessed each one of us with many gifts. Common to us all is the privilege and blessing of how we use the precious gifts of our time, talent and treasure. Stewardship is the spiritual practice of discerning the use of these gifts in building God’s dream of love and justice in our hearts, relationships and world. At Trinity we call your gift of time and talent Shared Ministry and we call your gift of treasure a pledge. Pledge forms are available at the Welcome Table.

MEET THE NEW VESTRY NOMINEES FOR 2017

John GannonI began attending Trinity in 2006 and was initially drawn by the friendly and inclusive community. Trinity’s message of social justice and openness led me to feel embraced and accepted like no church before. My wife Stacey and I were married at Trinity in June of 2007, and our children Shea and Ford were baptized in 2013. I have been a teacher at Santa Barbara High School over the last 18 years, teaching United States History and coaching various sports, including basketball, water polo, and volleyball. The combination of the traditional and the progressive at Trinity has appealed to me from the start and has helped me reach new levels of spirituality. Trinity has given so much to my family and I look forward to giving back with my service on the Vestry.

Kate McDonaldI came to Trinity in the winter of 2012, just after my wife Max and I moved to Santa Barbara. Since then, the Trinity family has seen us through tough times and exciting ones (I can sum these up in two words: Baby Jo!). Trinity is my spiritual home in Santa Barbara and Trinity is our community -- the people with whom we think and laugh and work, to care for one another and to make Santa Barbara a better place. I served on the Portfolio Committee, where I managed History Day, and I have also served on the Welcome Ministry. I am faculty in the History Department at UCSB. I would bring to the Vestry my experience in creative thinking, planning and budget management, and my commitment to social justice through inclusive community building.

Kathleen RogersI was lucky enough to find Trinity in 2005, two years after returning to Santa Barbara 9 months pregnant. More than a decade later, I continue to enjoy volunteering behind the scenes primarily with children and youth, recently being invited to join the Children & Youth Council. My daughter Madeline, now 13, is an acolyte and active youth group member. I work from home managing the sales office for an email technology company. I hope to bring to Trinity my experience in business development, fundraising and product marketing. I am extremely humbled and grateful to be called to deeper service as a new member of the Trinity Vestry.

Mandy PhillipsI started attending Trinity in 1994, shortly after our former rector Mark Asman started. I never knew a church could have all the qualities that Trinity has, a strong focus on social justice and inclusion, amazing music, and beautiful liturgy. Over the years I have served on the Vestry, been involved with the Justice and Outreach council, served as an LEM and am now involved with the Children and Youth Council. My husband Jeff and I have one son, Pierce, who is 7, and I work as a software engineer at a company in Goleta. I was on the rector search committee that selected Christine as a final candidate so I am honored to have the chance to work with her in this next exciting phase of Trinity.
