In just six weeks, the amazing young artists from Country Oaks Elementary School completed five art projects, a poem, and six extended learning assignments.

ESE teacher Cara Austin and her staff collaborated virtually with Arts4All Florida teaching artist, Sandy Hill, to introduce the students to Shel Silverstein’s poetry and to engage the students in creative techniques and materials.

Once there was a tree . . .and she loved a little boy.And everyday the boy would comeand he would gather her leavesand make them into crownsand play king of the forest . . . .

The Class read “The Giving Tree.”

The students learned how to begin their artmaking by using paper and cardboard and how to mix paints from household staples like food coloring.

In form and color, the artists expressed their ideas using acrylic, tempera paints, watercolor, pencils, sponges, brushes, droppers, sequins, glitter, canvas, cardstock, and confetti.

Torn Paper Collage!In these colorful assemblages, the artists used droppers to simulate watercolor rain over their cut and torn tissue paper shapes.

Leaf Collage!Gold acrylic paint gilds these compositions that are festooned with fabric leaves and decorated with watercolor pencil.

Cubist Collage!Inspired by Pablo Picasso, the artists combined different shapes and textures to make “musical mosaics.”

Masks!For one of their online extendedlearning activities, the artistsembellished fanciful masks with gold paint, glitter, and bling.
