110 years – April 8, 1897 An agent for Northwestern Telephone Company has been here this week, on his way north, to se-cure right of way for extension of his companyʼs lines. Our local market report shows fi ve-cent drop in wheat during the past week. It must have hurt some-body. Between showers the farmers are vigorously pushing the work of seeding, and on the higher grounds it can be forward quite rapidly. Twin babies – a boy and a girl – came to the house of the G. Kier-steins last Thursday (April 1).100 years – April 11, 1907 It has been freezing cold sev-eral nights the past week, but no damage is reported to budding fruit trees. Farmers have their wheat planted and are now preparing to plow for corn. A leave of absence for three years for Robert E. Perry was ap-proved. Commander Perry and his crew will leave in June on a trip to the North Pole. School at Westfi eld closed for a week for spring break. Teachers had not intended to take the week and close school one week earlier, but exposure of several students to small pox changed their plans. The arrival of ten 85 ̓poles was the signal for the start of installation of fl oodlighting equipment for night baseball at the Akron ball park.
