Provisioning Panopto

Provisioning Panopto• On the Control Panel menu, click on Customization.• Click on Tool Availability.• Check the Panopto Course Tool Application and

submit.•

Provisioning Panopto• On the navigation menu, click on Tools, locate and

click on Panopto Focus Content.

Provisioning Panopto• After clicking the Panopto Focus Content link, you

will need to provision the course with Panopto. • Click on the configure button.

Provisioning Panopto• After clicking the configure button, add the course

to Panopto.

Provisioning Panopto• The final stage of configuring Panopto is to choose

the course folder from among the available folders.

Downloading & Installing the

Panopto Recorder

Downloading the Panopto Recorder• Navigate to regent.hosted.Panopto.com• Then sign in using your Blackboard ID

download the recorder

• On the download screen you want to download the Panopto Recorder only

the location to which you save the file).

Installing the Panopto Recorder

• Double-click on the Panopto Recorder installation file.

• Follow the on-screen prompts to install the Panopto Recorder.

• Lightingo Use an indirect light source. Indirect light is light coming in from all sides. o It's helpful to use some sort of reflector to abstain from having a beam of

light facing directly at you. o If you have a lamp, possibly put a shade over it, or place a white piece of

paper over it to turn it into a source of indirect light.

o Get rid of as much ambient noise in the room as you can.

Unplug office machines in the room you're in.

Place your Microphone away from your computer (PC fans may increase in speed due to the hardware usage during a recording).

Place a sign on the door of the room you’re recording in to let others know you’re recording.

Silence telephones and cell phones.

• Backgroundo Check what is located in the backdrop of your camera!

o Make sure there is nothing distracting, or anything that you wouldn't want displayed for the world to see.

o Try a solid wall or anything that will force the viewers to concentrate on you, and not your surroundings.

oMatch the exact display resolution that your computer is set to.

oMeaning, if you have a monitor that is displaying 1920x1080, you should set the recorder to match. That will make it pixel for pixel exact and it will look perfect on playback!

Recording a Class Lecture

Recording a class lecture• Before you can record you need to sign in to Blackboard

Recording a class lecture• Recording a class lecture is as simple as:

oOpening the Panopto Recorder.

o Selecting your audio and video sources.

oDetermining where to save your recording to (course or offline).

oPressing the big red Record button.

Recording a class lecture• Select your audio and video sources.• Select the quality level for the recording.

Recording a class lecture• Select secondary capture sources, such as

PowerPoint or computer screen(s).

Recording a class lecture• Determine where to save your recording to by

pressing the “folder” button.

Recording a class lecture• You will see a list of your available courses.

Recording a class lecture• Hover over the name of the course you want to save your

recording to and the “Manage” and “Add New Session” options will appear.

• Click on “Add New Session”.

Recording a class lecture• You will be brought back to the main Panopto

Recorder screen.

Recording a class lecture• Create a unique name for your recording so that

you will be able to identify it later.

Recording a class lecture• If you are using a PowerPoint as part of your

lecture, there are several ways to proceed.

o You can capture just the PowerPoint (this is the preferred method), or

o You can capture your screen as you present the PowerPoint

Recording a class lecture• To record a PowerPoint presentation you’ll start by selecting the

“Capture PowerPoint” option under Secondary Resources.

Recording a class lecture• Next you’ll need to select “Open a Presentation” followed by

selecting the PowerPoint you wish to open

Recording a class lecture• Once you have selected your PowerPoint, Panopto will ask you if

you wish to Begin Recording

Recording a class lecture• You can also just check the “Start presenting when recording starts” box.• This will automatically put your PowerPoint into presentation mode when you

click “Record”.

Recording a class lecture• That’s it!• Press the big red “Record” button to start

recording!

Recording a class lecture• You will want to create a brief test recording to

ensure all your settings are correct before recording your entire lecture.

Recording a class lecture• You can pause your recording at any time by

clicking on the “Pause” button on the PanoptoRecorder interface.

Recording a class lecture• You can stop recording by clicking on the “Stop”

button on the Panopto Recorder interface.

Recording a class lecture• Once you hit the stop button,

a “Recording Complete” screen opens. You can name the session and give it a description. Then, you can delete the recording and start again, or if you are happy with the recording, click Upload.

Recording a class lecture• You will be brought to the “Manage Recordings”

screen, where you will be able to view:o The status of your current recordingo The status of any past recordings

Recording a class lecture• You may also “View”, “Edit” or “Share” any past

recordings.

current presentation has been uploaded and encoded by Panopto.

Editing a Class Lecture

Editing a class lecture• Clicking the “Edit” link in either

• the “Manage Recordings” tab of the Panopto Recorder interface, or

• the confirmation email

Editing a class lecture• The Panopto editing interface will open in your

web browser.

Editing a class lecture• To trim any “dead air” from the beginning and end

of your presentations, just adjust the “handles” by clicking and dragging them to where the audio actually begins and ends.

Editing a class lecture• The edited segments will be “grayed” out.• They have not been “deleted.”• They can be “restored” at any time.

Editing a class lecture• To edit “dead air” in the middle of your

presentation, click once on the “scissor” icon and then once on the section of the presentation you would like to “remove.”

Editing a class lecture• The first click sets new handles. Click and drag to

adjust the start and end points.

Other Features• In the top left corner

you can add to the Table of Contents that was imported if you used a power point. You can also add captions to any part on the timeline.

available to students:1. Share the course folder where the recordings are

stored:

your Bb course (announcements, course content, discussion board).

1. Click on build content2. Choose Web Link

box.2. Name the lecture and click submit.3. The lecture is now ready to be made available to

students.

How to watch a recorded lecture• Students will click on the Web Link, URL or embed

for the recorded lecture.• Students will need to log in with the Blackboard

option using their Regent ID/Password to watch lecture.
