Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion March 24, 2013

My dear friends in Christ, Here we are entering into the holiest week of our liturgical year! For five weeks we have been together in our journey contemplating on the meaning and the mystery of this experience. One of the greatest challenges is to stay focus and being “inside the line!” Many times when we are not paying attention we can drift into canal of sadness and difficulty! Our Lenten theme: NO TO SATAN, YES TO GOD is a very powerful reminder for us to remain faithful to the word and steadfast in our faith! As I said before during my Lenten message on that first Sunday of Lent I reminded everybody that Satan, the prince of darkness, will do everything to take us away from God. Many of us probably are complacent in our preparations. I hope and pray that you have taken all the necessary actions and steps to be with us during this time. The Holy Week is really a beautiful time to just relax, to spend time in prayer and to reflect of the good-ness of our God and how our God has touched our very being through the person of Jesus! To be holy is our goal and should be our identity! Two weeks ago I have written an article regarding the meaning of the Triduum and its powerful implica-tion if we ignore it. I hope that you go back to the article and reflect on it. The second Vatican Council document on liturgical matters talks about the importance in celebrating the Easter Triduum with great reverence and solemnity! It says, “Christ redeemed us all and gave perfect glory to God principally through his paschal mystery: dying he destroyed our death and rising he restored our life!” On behalf of my Pastoral Staff, the Finance Council, the Facilities Committee, the Pastoral Council, Dea-con Ben and Deacon Carlos, I would like to greet you all------HAPPY EASTER! In Christ, Fr. Geoffrey

The law on fasting obliges all persons who are between the ages of eighteen and fifty-nine.

The labyrinth is a model or metaphor for life. The Chris-tian life is often described as a pilgrimage or journey with God, a journey in which we can grow closer in rela-tionship with God, and in turn, closer to others. In life, as in the labyrinth, we don’t know where the path will take us. We don’t foresee the twists and turns that the future holds, but we know that the path will eventually arrive at the center, God. The Labyrinth, or prayer walk, will be available for our Meditation during Holy Week on Monday, Tues-day & Wednesday, March 25, 26 & 27 from 9AM to 9PM in the Parish Hall.

*****Singing at Mass*****

God has bestowed upon his people the gift of song. God dwells within each human person, in the place where music takes its source. Indeed, God, the giver of song, is present whenever his people sing his praises. Singing as a prayer is very ancient, going back to the beginning of time and existing in almost every culture in the world. St. Augustine is credited with saying that "He who sings properly, prays twice." So singing lifts our hearts, inspires us, and helps us to praise God with reverence and joy. The quality of our participation in such sung praise comes less from our vocal ability than from the desire of our hearts to sing together of our love for God. Participation in the Sacred Liturgy both expresses and strengthens the faith that is in us. For reflection: *Do I participate in sung prayer at mass? *How does singing the Mass assist my participa-tion in the Sacred Mysteries? * How do I understand and appreciate singing the Mass as a strengthening of our faith in God’s word and actions in the celebration of the Sacred Liturgy? * How do I understand and appreciate singing the Mass as a sign of the community of the Church celebrating glory and praise of God in the death and resurrection of the Lord?
