Roses Grow In Heaven
If roses grow in heaven,
Lord, please pick a bunch for me,
Place them in my mom’s arms
And tell her they’re from me.
Tell her I love her and miss her,
And when she turns to smile,
Place a kiss upon her cheek
And hold her for awhile
Because remembering her is easy
I do it every day,
But there’s an ache within my heart
That will never go away.

Life Reflections of Ms. Jennie Lou Briggs
A Time to be Born: Jennie Lou Harris-Briggs blessed her parents, Thomas and
Dorothy Hoefer-Harris, on June 18, 1949, and went to be with the Lord on Sunday,
January 10, 2021. During her stay with us, Jennie was the third of six siblings (first
sibling died at birth). At an early age, Jennie joined her family church and was
baptized at Zion Chapel Baptist #1. Later in life, she married and joined Triumph
Church. After her divorce from 42 years of marriage, Jennie became a member of
New Laurel Street Missionary Baptist Church. She loved New Laurel Street and
her deacons, who until her death visited her monthly for prayer, communion, and a
song or two.
A Time to Learn: Jennie was educated in the public schools of Richland County
School District One.
A Time to Serve: Jennie never worked a fulltime job outside of her home. She was
a housewife. Jennie loved to clean house, cooking, and taking care of her four
children. She was a “Soccer Mom” staying busy making sure her kids stayed
involved in activities, sports, and clubs. She was the winner of “Best Mom” award
every year. Jennie not only cared for her children but their friends as well. They
called her “Momma Briggs” and her grandchildren’s friends called her “MiMi.”
A Time To Reflect: Jennie was a daughter, sister, niece, cousin, friend, wife,
mother, grandmother, aunt, and a dear friend to those she loved. Jennie never met a
stranger. She loved everyone and always dressed her best and smelled good. She
loved expensive perfumes and shower gels. She was kind, loving, and always had a
beautiful smile on her face. Jennie had three boys and one girl and loved them
dearly. She had 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Jennie also claimed
several other daughters, sons, and grandchildren who are here today or watching on
live stream. Jennie had several close friends she loved dearly. Jennie also had a
love of her life who kept her company day and night. His name is Wholly. She
loved that little dog, that she treated like a child. Wholly is missing his momma and
I know she is missing him. He made her last couple of years so happy and
comforting. She loved her daughters-in-laws, neighbors, and cousins. She loved
joking with her son-in-law, always laughing and saying “That Tom is crazy.”
Jennie was well loved and gave lots of love. Her last wish of me was to tell you all
that she loved you, but she is tired and goodbye.
A Time to Celebrate: Jennie was preceded in death by: her loving parents, her
father, Deacon Thomas Harris; mother, Dorothy Hoefer-Harris; her adorable sister,
Loretta Harris McClain; brothers, Larry Thomas Harris and Johnell Harris.
Ms. Jennie Lou Briggs leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Robin Elaine
(Tom) Olds; sons, Robert (Ronnette) Briggs, Jr., Andre (Carla) Briggs, and Greg
(Tikkie) Briggs; one brother, Perry (Wanda) Harris; grandchildren, Chaunnici,
Ulysis, Bobby, Shyaun, Chrystal, Joi, Joey, Jacara, Thomas, Jason, Allen, Justin,
and Tommy Sheida; a long with her host of great-grandchildren; nieces, Tara
Harris and Ebony Moore; nephews, Laharv, Josh, Thomas, Patrick, Donavan, and
Terry; a host of other nieces and nephews, cousins, relatives, and best friends;
most of all, her dedicated and loving Wholly.
