Pala Design Studio Step-by-Step Guide Welcome to the Pala Design Studio, the first web-based denture design software. You will be able to design a case in 10-20 minutes and have the final STL file rendered in 30 minutes – 1 hour. Below is a walk-through of the steps necessary to design a denture in Pala Design Studio. Design Tip: As you move through the five different design steps in the Pala Design Studio, beginning with Step 3 – Matching, you fill find a “Guided Tour” Icon in the upper right hand corner of the screen. If you find yourself with questions about how to proceed during each of these five design steps, simply click on the “Guided Tour” button and watch a brief video explaining how to proceed with each step. Underneath each Guided Tour video, you will find a clickable link that reads, “Review Important Notes” pertaining to each section of the design software you are working through. Clicking that link will provide you with written guidelines to follow to achieve success during each design step. Pala Design Studio Step-by-Step Guide

Welcome to the Pala Design Studio, the first web-based denture design software. You will be able to

design a case in 10-20 minutes and have the final STL file rendered in 30 minutes – 1 hour.

Below is a walk-through of the steps necessary to design a denture in Pala Design Studio.

Design Tip:

As you move through the five different design steps in the Pala Design Studio, beginning with

Step 3 – Matching, you fill find a “Guided Tour” Icon in the upper right hand

corner of the screen. If you find yourself with questions about how to

proceed during each of these five design steps, simply click on the “Guided

Tour” button and watch a brief video explaining how to proceed with each

step.

Underneath each Guided Tour video, you will find a clickable link that reads, “Review Important

Design Prep Step 1 - Uploading Scanned Files: The first step is to upload the scanned files – maxillary, mandibular, and bite - by dragging each

file into the download box or by adding each individual file with the browse button.

First, add or drag your “Upper Gum” file, and then click “Next.”

Second, add your “Lower Gum” file, and then click “Next.”

Finally, add your “Bite” file.

Click the “Upload” button to move to the next step.

Currently, only STL file formats are accepted. Each file should be less than 50MB in size.

Design Prep Step 2 - Enter Your Case Design Information: On this screen, you will enter patient information and select each option that best suits your

design needs.

It is very important to select the correct impression type – Pala tray or wax rim.

When selecting “Printed” as your Final Output, please click on cara Print if that is your

production printer. If designing a Try-in only, please select that option.

If you are printing on a printer other than cara Print, please select “Others.”

If you select “Others,” you will need to select your margin preference between tooth and gum.

Your options are regular margins or tight margins.

If you are not printing with cara Print 4.0, please understand that Kulzer has not validated this

software with other printers and, therefore, cannot guarantee your print quality.

When all the information is selected, click Next to proceed with matching.

Denture Design Step 1 - Matching: The next step is to match and align the scanned upper and lower impressions by using a three-

point matching technique.

Choose the same matching points on both sides. It is important that the colored matching points

correspond to each other.

To select your match points, hold down the control key (Ctrl) on your keyboard and left-click

(with your mouse) the spot on the scan you want to identify.

To ensure better matching we recommend placing dots sufficiently spread out.

If a point is misplaced, you can select it by right-clicking on it. Then you may move it to the

desired position.

Once the upper match is done, click the Lower button and continue to match the lower.

After you have placed all three matching points for the upper and lower, click the Save & Next

button to proceed to trimming.

Matching Tips:

On the 3D rendered screen, you may move or rotate the impression by left-clicking on it

Pressing the wheel button (or the middle button) on the mouse will allow you to drag the

impression to the center of the screen.

Use the mouse wheel to zoom in and out.

You can delete points using the delete key. You may move points that have already been placed

by right-clicking on the point to select it or by left-clicking on it while holding the control key

Then you can either move or delete the point.

Denture Design Step 2 - Trimming: On the mouse, right-click to place the trim lines for the upper gum. Alternatively, you can left-

click while holding the control key on your keyboard to place points. Keep adding points until

the last point connects to the first point.

You can also add waypoints by clicking the white connection lines.

Once you have completed the upper, click the Lower button to trim the lower.

Trimming Tips:

In order for the Pala Design Studio to automatically arrange the teeth, it is necessary to trim the

opposing dentition even if it is a single arch design.

While adding waypoints, if you see that the connection line has become too long, please delete

the point and re-select it.

The trim line must be connected in a circular pattern.

Once the upper and lower trims are completed, click “Save and Next” to proceed to landmark

placement.

Denture Design Step 3 - Landmarks: The landmarks consist of three upper points and two lower points.

Please select the incisive papilla as the first upper landmark.

Next, choose the left and right hamular notches, as the second and third landmarks.

Click the Lower button to choose the two lower landmarks, which are the retromolar pads.

Once you choose all the landmarks, click the “Done” button.

Pala Design Studio will match, trim, create the occlusal plane, and arrange the teeth

automatically. This process will take approximately 1 minute.

Denture Design Step 4 - Verification: During this process, you will verify the matching, trimming, and occlusal plane placement. You

may rematch or retrim as necessary.

During the occlusal plane verification phase, you may move, rotate or tilt the occlusal plane as

necessary. If the impression type is a Wax Rim, this is the place to align it accordingly.

Click Save & Next to view the teeth setup.

Denture Design Step 5 - Teeth Setup: Pala Design Studio automatically arranges the teeth based on the gum shape and the styles you

chose.

Teeth can be moved or rotated in a group or individually by selecting options at the bottom. For

your convenience on the left side, you can find views from three different angles to facilitate

orientation.

You can hide from view certain parts of the design with the options on the right side. To close or

open the VD utilize the toggle in the lower right corner.

Finish:

Once you are satisfied with the teeth setup, submit the case for final generation.

The final generation process takes approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Since this is a web-based software, there is no need to wait for generation to complete. As soon

as you click “Submit to final”, you may start a new project.

Once the final generation is done, the status of the case will change to “Completed”. Click on

the ‘Completed’ button to view the final design.

The designs are optimized for 3D printing and the STL files can be downloaded as printed try-in’s

or printed final dentures. (Our milling option will come at a later date)

Once satisfied with your design, click on the download button to complete your purchase and

download your printable STL design files.
