dignitaries, Ambassador Asad M.Khan also attended the inauguralceremony. About 30 Pakistanicompanies participated in, Sportec2018 Tokyo which was held from25th to 27thJuly, 2018. ThePakistani exhibitors represent allthe major sports goods sectors ofPakistan including footballs, boxinggloves, footwear, leather gloves forother sports, marshal arts uniforms,sports and casual wear. The
Ambassador also visited thePakistani pavilion and appreciatedthe efforts of the Pakistanidelegates in displaying their items
in a presentable manner. Theparticipation of the Pakistaniexhibitors has been supported bythe Embassy of Pakistan andTrade Development Authority ofPakistan.
Sportec now in its 10th Year is thelargest sports goods and wearexhibition whereas Pakistan isparticipating in the event for thefirst time.
Pakistan’s participation also carriessignificance as Japan is due tohost a number of key events innear future including the Rugby
World Cup 2019, Olympics /Paralympics 2020 and KansaiWorld Games 2021. Hence theexhibition is a very goodopportunity for the Pakistani sportsgoods manufacturing companies toshowcase their products in amarket that is expecting a furtherboom in the wake of forthcomingmajor sporting events.

Ambassador Asad M. Khanaddressed a seminar titled“Emerging Pakistan” on thesidelines of Sportec -2018Exhibition being currently heldin Tokyo. The Ambassadoridentified two informationdeficit that were intended tobe addressed through theseminar i.e lack of
familiarization of Pakistan’ssports industry about thepotential and opportunities inthe sports sector of Japan andsheer lack of information in
Japan about the potentialquality and capacity of sportsgoods industry of Pakistan.However, he added that theparticipation of 30 companiesfrom Pakistan in Sportec-2018would help address both thedeficits. The Ambassadorexpressed confidence thatPakistani companies would
avail thisopportunity toestablish businesscontacts in Japanand footer a newrelationship with theconcerned businessentities.Ambassador Khanhighlighted the factthat Sportec-2018 isbeing held at animportant junctureas Japan preparesfor a series of keyinternational sportsevents whichincludes RugbyWorld Cup 2019,Olympics /Paralympics 2020and Kansai WorldGames 2021.
Hence, the Exhibition is animportant opportunity for thePakistani sports goodsmanufacturing companies to
showcase their products in amarket that is expecting afurther boom in the wake offorthcoming major sportingevents.
Mr. Masao Otsuka,JICA/TDAP Advisor also gavea detailed presentation on thesports industry of Pakistanand the potential it has toincrease exports. He identifiedskilled and rich labor forces,cheap raw materials, costcompetitiveness, flexibleproduction system and owner– operated companies asstrong points of Pakistan’ssports industry. However, he
added that the industry needsto address to the weak pointsof lack of designs, lack ofproduct varieties andresponse to large scale orders.

In collaboration with TakanawaCivic Centre, Minato City theEmbassy held the second of theseries of photo exhibitions titled“Journey through Pakistan: ALand of Many Wonders:Honourable Seishro Eto,President Pakistan-JapanParliamentary Friendship League
and Member House ofRepresentatives inaugurated theexhibition. Speaking on theoccasion, the Ambassadorreferred to Pakistan as one ofthose few countries in the worldthat is blessed with a diverseinventory of attractions whichinclude some of the oldestcivilizations in the world, exquisitescenic beauty, splendid
mountains and highest peaks,sacred religious and historicalplaces, seasonal variations,unique arts and crafts, richtraditions and a variety ofdelicious cuisine.
The Ambassador alsoappreciated the facilitation and
professional help extended byMinato City in holding theExhibition and hoped for futurecollaboration as well.
In his remarks Honorable Mr.Seishiro Eto stated that Pakistanis bestowed upon with fascinatingnatural beauty where the touristattractions including highmountains like K-2, vast deserts,
beautiful valleys and diversity inrich culture makes it a perfectdestination tourism. Heunderscored the importance ofthe exhibition which he termed asan important opportunity forJapanese people to know aboutPakistan and deepen thisunderstanding of the culture and
people of Pakistan. Commentingon Japan-Pakistan relations, Mr.Eto referred it as cordial andfriendly in all fields with specialreference to diplomatic, economicand culture linkages. Heexpressed that futurecollaboration between the twocountries would furtherstrengthen the bilateral relations.

The Sakura Science Program participants from Pakistan visited the Embassy together with Mr MitsuhiroNemoto, Dir Japan Science & Tech Agency. The Ambassador talked about the opportunities available in
Japan in the fields of science and technology etc.
Ashfaq Ahmad Khalil, Press Counsellor, visited Hiroshimia Shudo University and met its President TakanoriMikami Sensei. The Press Counsellor also interacted with the students and spoke to them on Pakistan. Thestudents showed keen interest to know about Pakistan’s geography, topography, people and traditions etc.
