Presidents Report

What a month one of the busiest for the year, with Bikes thru the Bar,

our Odyssey, & Moto Gp it has been crazy & fast, like we need a month to

be any faster than usual.

Bikes thru the Bar started out with there being snow in Stanthorpe the

night before we left, something to look forward to heading to Warwick, a

small turn out from the Branch had an enjoyable weekend. Our Odyssey,

possibly one of the most successful the Branch has seen, thanks to work of a few people who

put a lot of their time into this event I will not attempt to name them in fear of missing

somebody, they know who they are and for them a huge thank you. The rest of the year is

quite busy with our Christmas Party, Girraween visit and the various Toy Runs.

Cheers,

Russell

Sagittarians are born adventurers. They like smashing spiders with their bare

hands and trying to walk to the bathroom in the middle of the night with the lights out. They would sooner sustain crippling injury than do anything the easy

way. Sagittarians love to entertain their friends, family, and total strangers.

This often includes transvesticism. Nearly every Sagittarian was born into the wrong gender. Sagittarians are loud and have no social graces. They seek to of-

fend. Sagittarians usually have nicknames like Thunderpooper or Vomitus Maxi-mus. Animals and small children love Sagittarians. This is unfortunate since

adults usually hate them. However, Sagittarians make excellent circus freaks and vagrants. Sagittarians use interpretive dance to describe philosophical con-

cepts. Buttons and bumper stickers with rude sayings on them are a trademark

of the Sagittarian. They throw food at expensive restaurants and ask lots of questions in the middle of church. Don't ever bring a Sagittarius home to meet

your parents.

He or she will tie up your mother and pants your dad. Famous Sagittarians in-clude the Geo Metro. The holiday during which the sun is in Sagittarius is

Thanksgiving. This is highly appropriate since everyone eats until they're sick and passes out while a bunch of cross-dressers and huge inflatable things wan-

der through the streets of New York, the most Sagittarian town in the universe.

The Shriners driving around in the tiny little cars are a very Sagittarian image.

Even more so if there's a ridiculously busty woman stuffed into the car as well. A Sagittarius is always a better Madonna than Madonna. Men can pull off sequins,

and women can pull off construction helmets. The Sagittarius is incapable of be-ing unhip.

MotoGP News

In three consecutive weeks we had the Japanese, Malaysian and Australian MotoGP's so all teams

were kept very busy. The Moto3 champion was decided at Sepang in Malaysia and Moto2 and the

MotoGP championships were decided at Phillip Island.

Stoner returned to the track at Motegi in Japan and finished fifth and getting fourth place on the

grid. His leg was obviously still giving him some trouble judging by his restricted movements on

the Honda.

Pedrosa won the Japanese and Malaysian MotoGP's however his run came to an end at Phillip

Island when he crashed out on the second lap.

The MotoGP podium in Japan was 1.Pedrosa 2.Lorenezo 3. Bautista.

The MotoGP podium in Malaysia was 1.Pedrosa 2.Lorenzo 3.Stoner. Although it was a wet race it

was red flagged and finally stopped because of the rain.

Sandro Cortese clinched the Moto3 championship by winning here.

The weekend at Phillip Island was dry although overcast,

windy and cold, it did however prove to be probably the best

weekend of the season for a number of reasons. Early on race

day one of the track commentators made a tongue in cheek

comment “It would be great to see an Australian on the

podium in all three classes today”. In the Moto3 class young

Arthur Sissis (17 years old) had a brilliant race and finished

3rd

after starting 11th on the grid. His team-mate won with

Miguel Oliveira coming 2nd

.

The Moto2 class was another brilliant race with Marc

Marquez looking to clinch the championship. Although

he had a strong ride he was not about to take to many

risks so stayed in 3rd place for most of the race. Ant

West started in 8th

place after doing well in qualifying

and was determined to finish well up the ranks. Towards

the end of the race he was chasing Marquez 3rd

, Reading

2nd

and Espargaro leading. Two laps to go and Marquez

was passed, approaching the last corner Reading lost two

places and so Ant West finished in 2nd

place. A really

good ride to add to his 3rd

place finish the week before at

Sepang in Malaysia. Marc Marquez was crowned the winner of Moto2 Championship after

finishing 3rd

. Pol Espargaro was the

race winner.

MotoGp The ultimate race of the

day.

Casey Stoner had a fantastic

weekend. He set the fastest times in

every session and started on pole

position. His cautious start saw him

in 3rd

position with Lorenzo leading

and Pedrosa 2nd

. Coming into corner

4 on lap 2 as Stoner made to pass

Lorenzo Pedrosa lost the front end

and came down, unfortunately for

him that was the end of his race and championship hopes. Stoner however got past Lorenzo and

stayed at the front to win the race by almost 9 and a half seconds. Cal Crutchlow had a hard race

and managed 3rd

place. Lorenzo celebrated his second MotoGp Championship win with his 2nd

place at Phillip Island.

Page 14 Ulysses Club Inc. Redcliffe Branch Newsletter November

Well for an event that’s been going for some time, this year’s event had a different feel to

it with our some of members embarking on their yearly migration south to Phillip Island.

But as event coordinator

the show must go on, (no

rest for the wicked) work-

ing with a team like ours

we had the right mix to put

on a good Odyssey. Friday

was a complete surprise on

arrival as I met with Vicki

to be told that we had al-

ready had members from

other Branches set up

camp. Well what can I say,

but let’s have a good time,

as the afternoon turned to

evening the camp filled quickly, Ray and myself went around handing out wrist band and

getting the raffle started. As we headed to the area where a net was strung up, we noticed

some members playing volley ball. The BBQ meet and great was more like a reunion of

friends, as the night went on and the drinks flowed freely (I drank all mine) not much

more to say.

Saturday started

with WTF hap-

pened too....oh yes,

now I remember

(vaguely).

Right let’s get

back on track, we

have some work

and organising to

do. Ray, Di, Keren,

Russell were al-

ready into it. I just

sat and watched

things evolve till the

fuzz cleared. The

news was getting

better all the time the number of people attending had grown to a very impressive size.

Page 15 Ulysses Club Inc. Redcliffe Branch Newsletter November

When told that we had some 100 prizes up for Raffles, it was time to get the raffle book

out and Sell, Sell, Sell.

Now there’s something about a

gathering like this that brings out

a sense of “yeah this is right” so I

had no trouble selling tickets. All

day long members dug deep to

play the game and take a chance

on winning.

Around the camps it was do what

you want, sit relax or go for a ride,

the smell of the Lions Club BBQ

was a call to lunch, with the

events area set up and the stage

was set for the afternoons festiv-

ity’s. Different branches cheer

squads set themselves up in the shaded areas and the rest just intermingled.

One o’clock was the start time, but there’s still one Branch missing, Sunny Coast! Then we

hear this call to arms

as we look around we

see a line of blue

shirts and wigs

marched out with the

lead flag bearer help-

ing to make their

branches grand en-

trance. I must say on

first sight seeing this

they looked like refu-

gees from the State of

Origin.

Well, this had to be a violation of bad taste, if not in taste then surely in timing a fine had

to be issued.... and was.

Page 16 Ulysses Club Inc. Redcliffe Branch Newsletter November

Let the Ulympic Games begin!

The first event of the day was the Boys Tyre

Toss competition, which consisted of throwing

two tyres one light, one heavy, once with each

hand depending on which was their stronger

arm. I’m no Pancake expert but there were

some mighty fine TOSSERS in the field that day

showing they were equally adept at tossing to

the left and tossing to the right.

There were some that

had the measure of it

showing amazing

TOSSING SKILLS and

very fine distances tal-

lied, (you could tell

who the lefty’s were),

there weren’t too many

miss-fires or casualties

with much cheering

from onlookers. Say-

ing

TOSS,TOSS,TOSS!

Page 17 Ulysses Club Inc. Redcliffe Branch Newsletter November

It was the girls up next, with

some very good tossers amongst

them too! And some that

matched the boys and yes the

crowd gave a good account of

themselves when the odd

friendly shot came close! It can

be said that a member from

Redlands stood out for mention

(turn your high beam off

Donna!).

After a well earned Drinks

break as the day was a rather warm one in low thirty’s out in the open.

The competitors next

lined up to inflict a

barrage of tennis balls

on a bunch of little

people (gnomes) this

event sorts out those

who can and those who

can’t, you just had to

have a go or two or

three, again

Page 18 Ulysses Club Inc. Redcliffe Branch Newsletter November

Quickly the numbers run down to just a few canny players left with the ability to hit time

and time until only a few standing gnomes finally decided the eventual winners.

to

With the competitive spirit in full swing a game of lawn bowls with a slight twist, instead

of balls, coloured flat discs are used, this too

proved to be a very strangely confusing contest

where even the wind could decide the out-

come as it tended to flip some of the discs over .

After a number of changed ends whitling down

of competitors and a few head scratches the in-

evitable tape meas- ure was employed when the

disputes became heated, eventually the game

ended. And I’m not really sure who won that.

Ha, Ha ,Ha!

Page 19 Ulysses Club Inc. Redcliffe Branch Newsletter November

Now the game we all

loved was the balloon

toss which goes

something like this.

You toss the balloon

to your team-mate,

they then catch the

balloon and then

take one step back

and repeat until your

balloon was broken

or you dropped it (or

it got stolen or some other such Balloony nonsense) and you were out.

However the rules seemed to be lost in time or space as balloons went back and forth, and

a halt was called so those still in the game had to take

one step back and throw, some very amazed looks as

balloons seemed to go through hands disappear and

then re-appear again in their hands as different col-

oured balloon, Hmmmm!

As this was going on those eliminated turned on each

other with wet abandon to score some direct tits..

No ,sorry, hits!..sorry again. Back to the game, some-

body did win after the girls chased down Pumbah got

caught stealing balloons and the resultant pitched bat-

tle of thrown water balloons ended up being a wet t-

shirt competition but I believe there was a result of

sorts. And I mean the throwing variety, not the t-shirt

variety.

The intellectual event called the Pisspot Regatta began where competitors had to sit on

their arse and row in a fash-

ion whilst downing a beer,

the team that drank the most

and the fastest or got the wet-

test or rowed the best or just

finished won? Anyway the

spectacle was viewed as a

roaring success with all that

competed and the crowd

sated.

The presentations of the

trophies were held at 3:30pm

Page 20 Ulysses Club Inc. Redcliffe Branch Newsletter November

After the awards those who had to

head south to Philip Island said their

goodbyes, some members went for a

swim in the lake to cool off, the rest

just cooled off in a more of a dry man-

ner back at the bar. Then it was time to

get ready for the evenings fun, at 5

o’clock the raffle was closed, 5:30 the

draw started and what an exercise that

was! With over 100 prizes to go out

team work was needed, I drew then

Ray called, Di and Keren handed out

the prizes this went on till 6pm.

Then dinner was served up by the Lions Club, a very enjoyable meal of goulash with a

more polished name, then sweets were

served. We thanked the Lions club for

the spread and the efforts that they put in

serving drinks all day. By this time the

“Ubuy” was closed. It was now after

7pm and the raffle draw only half

drawn so we kept on calling until 7:30.

Then settling in for the “Ubuy” auction

some very heavy bidding on some of

the lots were made and not so on oth-

ers, two items on the table which were

fancied was a pair of wedding wine

glasses also a knife and server set. A

few people were after these lots one in

particular, Lorna from Lions Club, is to

be married later this year, but she had

been out bid. While the remaining

items were being sorted out and

moneys taken we came to the said

lots and the winning bid was read

out and came to collect her prize,

even though her son was to be wed

she gave the lots over to Lorna as a

wedding present, the crowd

cheered as one at this most gener-

ous gift.

Page 21 Ulysses Club Inc. Redcliffe Branch Newsletter November

It must be pointed out over

the past two days that a

smoke haze surrounded the

venue with fires on the

other side of the lake and in

the hills kept the Rural Fire

Brigade very busy all week-

end and a constant re-

minder why we had gath-

ered here in the first place.

To help raise some funds

for the fireies. We were to

present a cheque to the fire

warden during the evening

but he was too tired to do

this and his daughter gratiously accepted the cheque on behalf of the Fire Brigade for one

thousand dollars.

Party time “Rodgee Dodge” had set

up while the Raffle and Dinner was

going on, and now the with every-

body in the mood and the floor

cleared to make room the music was

classic Rock,R&B and Country and

Western thrown in, we all danced the

night away, oh yes we had an ama-

ture hour where a few members took

on different persona’s assisted by

Rodger to give it some sort of polish.

This went down well and involved

and entertained everyone till 11:30 when the crowd wound down and went to bed or just

sat round enjoying a few more drinks and the com-

pany.

Sunday morning a lot of happy Ulyssians taking

breakfast from the Lions Club BBQ and relaxing, were

taking their time to start the day. The general feeling

was this Odyssey was a good one and next years will be

as good if not better, time to start planning the next

one.
