Cardiac arrest survivor Danielle Denlein hosted a women’s
heart health awareness fundraiser event called “Homecoming for
Heart Health” at the Woodlands at Warwick’s Toll Brothers model
home on Oct. 22.
The luncheon offered education about heart disease in women.
There were nine survivors at the event, which was attended by
approximately 50 women.
Amy Cavaliere and Denlein, both Spontaneous Coronary Dis-
section (SCAD) survivors, shared their stories. Their SCAD’s led
to heart attack and cardiac arrest at age 35.
Heart Disease is the number one killer of women. SCAD is like-
ly the number one killer in women under 42, Denlein said; it is
known as the healthy women’s heart attack.
CPR and AED saved Cavaliere’s life. David Sauls, the EMT
who saved Cavaliere’s life, performed a CPR/AED demonstration
at the luncheon.
Former White House chefs Guy Mitchell and Woody Raber
entertained attendees with funny stories while giving a heart-
healthy cooking demonstration.
The event raised $2,000 for SCAD research (women’s heart
health). It was Denlein’s third fundraiser with Toll Brothers Inc.,
and year-to-date she has raised $16,000 for SCAD Research Inc.

“Homecoming for Heart Health”
More than 100 of the area’s life
science and biotechnology lead-
ers gathered at the Pennsylvania
Biotechnology Center on Nov. 17
for the 17th annual Regional
Biotech Conference, organized
by the Baruch S. Blumberg Insti-
tute.
This year’s event focused on
angel investing, and included pre-
sentations from entrepreneurs
who had solicited investors for
their startup company, as well as
“angels” who have invested in
start ups. “Angels” are those who
invest very early in the life cycle
of a startup company, usually tak-
ing the greatest risk.
“Angels have come to the right
place to see ideas with great
promise,” said state Rep. Mar-
guerite Quinn, commenting on
the success of startups at the PA
Biotechnology Center.
The center has helped launch
startups that have gained more
than $2 billion in value, said Tim-
othy Block, president of the
Baruch S. Blumberg Institute and
the Pennsylvania Biotechnology
Center. The center is currently
home to 38 companies.
Speakers at the conference
included Sanjay K. Sehgal,
founder managing partner and
CEO of East West Capital Part-
ners; Lillian Chiang, Ph.D., pres-
ident and CEO, FORGE Life Sci-
ences; Peter Young, executive-in-
residence, Pappas Capital; and
Tom Petro, founder and manag-
ing partner, 1867 Capital Part-
ners. The presenting sponsor was
Univest.
At the conclusion of the pro-
gram, the PA Biotechnology Cen-
ter recognized the first two prod-
ucts to be developed and FDA-
approved by companies based at
the center.
Michael Daley, was honored
for GenVisc 850, a product devel-
oped by his company Orthogen-
Rx for the treatment of
osteoarthritis knee pain. Kunwar
Shailubhai, accepted recognition
for Synergy Pharmaceutical’s
drug TRULANCE, approved for
the management of gastrointesti-
nal disorders.
