O’Donnell has served as an assistant administrator since June 2000, and spent the past five years under the direction of outgoing Administrator Clay Good- man. Good- man, who announced his retirement from Roanoke County in early May, later confirmed he would be taking over the administrative duties of neighboring Craig County. His last day in Roanoke Coun- ty is set for July 31, after which O’Donnell will assume Good- man’s responsibilities. O’Donnell’s resume includes stints working in gov- ernment across multiple states. From 1996 to 2000, he served as the administrator for Steu- ben County, New York. Before that, he worked for five years leading Berkeley County, West Virginia. O’Donnell oversaw the completion of the Roanoke County Public Safety Center on Cove Road, Green Ridge Recreation Center and the Glenvar Library. Residents of southeast Roa-noke will have a new place to purchase alcohol if an ABC license is issued to Dollar General.

The Dollar General at 1302 Jamison Ave. has applied for an off-premise ABC license to sell wine and beer. Currently, Dollar General has 19 stores in the same district as the Jamison Avenue branch, and 12 of those locations already have an ABC license.
