Hanna Hankins and Col. John Riley. Carthage and Knightstown held Veteran’s Day observances Sunday. Carthage held a dedication ceremony for the new Carthage and Ripley Township Veterans Memorial. The program incuded student essays, singing by local school children and a perfomance of the song “Freedom’s Never Free” by Bill Davis. Knightstown’s program was organized by Knightstown Legion Post 152. Jerry Schafer, executive director of Henry County Community Foundation, gave the address. Christina Coe recited a poem, “Thirteen Folds”, and sang “America the Beautiful.” Danielle Carmichael sang “Angels Among Us” accompanied by Rob Winters. The Knightstown High School choir sang “God Bless America.” Knightstown Community High School senior Jon-Bob McKinney closed the program with a resounding verions of “Taps.” Top: As part of the annual Knightstown Veterans Day service a large American flag is unfurled and carried down Main Street.
