Each week we learn a new spelling pattern. We learn the first five words we don’t know. To learn: 1) Dot and dash the words (dot = individual sound, dash = letters joined together making one sound)

2) “Look, say, cover, sound out, write, check” Write the spelling word in the space next to the word. Keep going through the list until you find 5 words you need to learn. Use the words you need to learn for the rest of the spelling tasks. 3) Finger spell the words you need to learn out loud (to an adult if possible so they can help check your spelling). If it is two letters making one sound, join two fingers together. 4) Write the words you don’t know 5 times. Say the sounds as you write. Cover the word and write it without seeing the word. Check if the word is

spelt correctly. Repeat this task on different days until the word is spelt correctly. * With an adult discuss the meaning of words. Are you neater than Mr Young?
