The latest thing in celebratory events is to build something bespoke in your own space - both in terms of food and venue. A great example are the Nordic-inspired tipis which first arrived in the UK about eight years ago and have taken the scene by storm as a visually stunning alternative to white rectangular marquees. Ed Wright is the owner of World Inspired Tents which operates out of Devon and Bristol, (covering the whole of southern England and Wales), he says, ‘We provide a number of different types of tents, but for example, our main Giant Hat tipi is extremely useful because in addition to accommodating 70 seated guests or 100 standing, it can be linked with many others to create a space that’s as big as you need.’ Scandinavian cool Inspired by the tents used by the Sámi people of Lapland, you can include a wood burning fire, have them raised or lowered at the sides depending on the weather and lit to create a number of different effects. ‘Nordic style is very cool at the moment,’ says Ed, ‘and we build on the wow-factor by providing interesting lighting, furniture, and even reindeer skins to cover benches for a rustic Scandinavian feel, which is popular.’ To share your ideas with Ed and his team, give them a call. The Dartmoor Kitchen ethos is simple: local, seasonal and fresh, with Tom and team creating stylish and vibrant food which is the result of strong relationships with local producers. It’s a bespoke service so the team works to create menus that suit each client and their budget. ‘The beauty of what we do is rocking up at a different venue each week. It’s always different and always interesting.’ says Tom. He’s cooked for Prince William and Kate Middleton, as well as Sienna Miller, but says, ‘One of our favourite events was a party in the most beautiful setting deep in the Devon countryside. This incredible canopy hovered over an entire Italian style garden complete with olive trees and an abundance of flowers, and Mumford and Sons played on stage all evening.’ Creative canapés include baby baked jackets, with chive mascarpone and caviar, or pea and parmesan fritters, and a signature dish is The Devon Feast which uses the best local produce including ruby red rib of beef and seafood platters made with award winning River Exe mussels and line caught sea bass from local fishermen.
