From the Principal’s Desk
Dear Parents and Carers,
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all students on their
effort and progress this term in all curriculum areas. Whilst it has been a
very busy term, it has been highly productive and I am very proud of our
students and teachers. Recent school results including NAPLAN indicate
that there has been great growth across our school in the areas of
Literacy and Numeracy. Our hard work and new initiatives have made a positive impact in
delivery of quality learning experiences. NAPLAN results were sent home with all students on
Monday.
On Monday, we were ably represented by Laura, Isla,
Muskaan, Niyati, Taylah and Zuleikha at the District Public
Speaking Debating competition. Well done to each of you
on your preparation and eloquent speeches given. It was
a high quality competition and we’re proud of your
efforts!
Congratulations to our school Junior Soccer team who
were premiers for the Zone PSSA competition! The team has practiced hard and played
exemplary soccer throughout the season under the expert coaching of Mrs Cullen. A big
congratulations also to all of our other Winter PSSA teams for your effort and sportsmanship
throughout the winter season! We are regularly complimented by other schools and spectators
on both our behaviour and sportsmanship!
This term, we have been explicitly testing our K-3 student’s reading skills, particularly in the areas
of phonemic knowledge and understanding as well as phonics. These areas are key to early
strong foundational reading levels. Next term, we will be introducing some explicit initiatives to
assist in the development of these areas across K-3. Our Years 4-6
students will continue to build their knowledge of Reciprocal Reading
approaches.
Finally, today our Senior School students (Years 5&6) presented their
latest Project Based Learning tasks to family and friends at the ‘Urban
Planners Open Day’. The Senior School have been researching cities
from around the globe and have created amazing displays and
models. Today, they undertook the role of ‘Urban Designers’ and
presented their plans very articulately! This is more amazing work
being achieved in our Senior School!!
Finally, the last day of the term for all students in this Friday 27
September, 2019.
ALL STUDENTS AND TEACHERS RETURN IN TERM 4 ON MONDAY 14 OCTOBER, 2019.
Have a safe break!
Yours sincerely,
Mr Loughhead

Roy Ringrose has visited 3/4O this week!
Did you know that 3/4O has SWAG! Success, Willpower, A Positive Attitude
and Goals! I saw their great door display as soon as I approached their
classroom and it’s absolutely true!
I really enjoyed spending time in 3/4O and seeing the
hard working, motivated and responsible students
trying their best with every task.
3/40 taught me about the craft of Paper Quilling and
I had the pleasure of seeing them create their very
own trees with the intricate technique. It sure is
trickier than what it seems!
I learned that Paper Quilling is the art of cutting
paper into long thin strips, rolling and pinching the
pieces into different shapes, and then gluing the
shapes together to form decorative art. Make sure to
check out their Tree display in the office area!
In Writing they have been learning a lot about
Procedure texts. Students have learned
about the purpose, structure and features
of procedure texts. They did a group work
challenge in which they had to work
together to create a paper plane. Sounds
easy but here is where the hard part was!
Each group had a different type of
procedure to follow. The first group had an image of the finished product, the second group
only had diagrams, the third group only had written steps and the fourth group had to watch a
YouTube tutorial. From this task they learned the importance of having all of those features of a
procedure text in order to create a final product!
In Maths they have been learning about Multiplication and Division. I loved seeing the students
apply different strategies in solving tricky problems! Some students even taught me how
Multiplication and Division are inverse operations just like Addition and Subtraction!
I sure had a great time learning with the students in 3/4O that definitely have S.W.A.G!

Stage 3 Urban Planners Day
This week marks the final stage of our Project Based Learning (PBL) Task. This term, we were all Urban Planners leading up to our display day that showcased our creative cities. We started the task by looking at cities around the world, and researching all aspects about these cities. We wrote up an informative report about our chosen city and used this information to influence our creative cities. We had several aspects of design for our cities, including looking at what buildings, landmarks and infrastructure was going into our designs; as well as aspects such as cuisine, entertainment, money etc. Once we had all of these aspects worked out, we were able to start building our 3D city model. The students were able to be creative about how they built their 3D model – some were using clay, lego and recyclable materials. This project has allowed us to apply the knowledge and skills learnt in so many aspects of our learning, including Literacy, Numeracy, Geography, Science and Visual Arts. It has been a great learning experience for all the students involved. The teachers that have guided the students through this process have been overwhelmed with the success and enthusiasm that the students have shown through this project.

Pssst… It’s a P & C Update!
CANTEEN CLOSURE - please be aware the canteen will be closed Wednesday 25th, Thursday 26th & Friday 28th of September.
The canteen will reopen on Wednesday 16th of October.
In term 4, our school canteen will introduce a new menu which complies with the Department of Education’s Healthy Canteen Scheme. There will be some new items added to our menu. Most items will stay and there is a slight price rise to compensate for the change. Please ensure you read the menu and adjust your lunch orders accordingly. Early term 4 we will be holding our final disco of the year. Halloween theme! Keep the first of November free for a fun and spooky night. Thank you to the volunteers for the uniform shop. Have a safe and enjoyable 2 weeks break! OUR NEXT P&C MEETING will be next term on the first Wednesday back, 16th October.
Canteen News
Thank you to everyone who has helped out in Term 3. Canteen could not
have run efficiently without your support. The canteen is now for the
remainder of term, and will re-open on Wednesday, 16th October
Due to the introduction of Healthy School Canteen we are no longer selling
Play water. As a replacement we are selling Chill J sparkling fruit juice. We
are also selling Juicies tubes which replace Calippo’s. They will be great in
the summer and come in 3 flavours – lemonade, tropical & wild berry.
Please see the menu attached to this newsletter for further information.
We are still in need of helpers, so if you can spare a day to help please
contact me on 0411 143 609. Remember, if you help out in canteen your
children will receive a free lunch order for the day!
