Supplemental Information: OSU Tree Protection Contract Standards (1 page)
Project Timeline: o PO to be issued immediately upon successful award of project. o Contractor mobilization may begin immediately upon receipt of PO
Expected no later than January 22, 2018 o Waterproofing scope to be completed by March 2, 2018 o Remainder of project in its entirety to be completed by April 20, 2018

SPECIFICATIONS SHALL CONFORM TO LOCAL JURISDICTIONAL
STANDARDS AND THE OKLAHOMA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS FOR HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION, CURRENT
EDITION.
2. ALL TESTING DENOTED HEREIN SHALL BE PERFORMED BY AN AASHTO
ACCREDITED TESTING AGENCY. ALL TESTS (INCLUDING FAILING
TESTS) SHALL BE MADE AT THE CONTRACTOR'S EXPENSE. TEST
RESULTS SHALL BE DELIVERED TO THE OWNER'S DESIGNATED
REPRESENTATIVE FOR ACCEPTANCE PRIOR TO CONTINUING WORK.
3. GIVE THE NOTIFICATION CENTER OF OKLAHOMA ONE-CALL SYSTEM
(1-800-522-6543) NOTICE OF ANY EXCAVATION NO EARLIER THAN 10
DAYS NOR LATER THAN 48 HOURS, EXCLUDING SUNDAYS, SATURDAYS
AND LEGAL HOLIDAYS, PRIOR TO COMMENCE OF WORK.
4. EXISTING UTILITIES SHOWN ON THE PLANS ARE APPROXIMATED
BASED ON RECORD DRAWINGS OR HORIZONTAL LOCATIONS FLAGGED
IN THE FIELD. ALL VERTICAL LOCATIONS ARE APPROXIMATE DEPTH
ONLY. THE ENGINEER DOES NOT GUARANTEE THE ACCURACY OF
UTILITIES INFORMATION FIELD VERIFY THE PRESENCE, TYPE, SIZE,
LOCATION AND DEPTH OF ALL EXISTING UTILITIES IN THE PROJECT
AREA PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION. NOTIFY THE OWNER AND ENGINEER
OF ANY DISCREPANCIES BEFORE PROCEEDING WITH WORK.
5. REMOVE FROM THE WORK SITE ALL TRASH AND CONSTRUCTION
DEBRIS AT THE END OF EACH DAY AND LEAVE THE AREA IN A NEAT,
ORDERLY AND SAFE CONDITION.
6. UPON COMPLETION OF CONSTRUCTION, ALL DISTURBED AREAS SHALL
BE SODDED ACCORDING TO PLAN SPECIFICATIONS. THE CONTRACTOR
SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FERTILIZATION AND WATERING OF
SOD AREAS UNTIL GROWTH IS ESTABLISHED IN A CONDITION
ACCEPTABLE TO THE OWNER.
7. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR OBTAINING THE
NECESSARY WORK ORDERS AND PERMITS FROM THE LOCAL
JURISDICTIONAL AUTHORITY AND/OR THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA,
INCLUDING PROVISIONS OF BONDS AND INSURANCE AS REQUIRED.
8. DIMENSIONS ARE TO FACE OF CURB OR NEAREST EDGE OF WALL
UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED.
9. TOPOGRAPHIC INFORMATION TAKEN FROM PROVIDED SURVEY. IF
CONTRACTOR DOES NOT ACCEPT EXISTING TOPOGRAPHY AS SHOWN
ON PLANS, CONTACT ENGINEER AND SURVEYOR IMMEDIATELY.
10. CONDUCT AS-BUILT MEASUREMENTS AND SUBMIT DOCUMENTATION
TO THE OWNER PRIOR TO FINAL ACCEPTANCE.
11. MAINTAIN ALL EXISTING PARKING, SIDEWALKS, DRIVES, ETC. CLEAR
AND FREE FROM ANY CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITY AND/OR MATERIAL
STORAGE TO ENSURE SAFE PEDESTRIAN AND VEHICULAR TRAVEL TO
AND FROM THE SITE.
12. COORDINATE ANY TEMPORARY PRIVATE DRIVE CLOSURES WITH

GENERAL NOTES:

7. EXISTING DRAINAGE STRUCTURES TO BE INSPECTED AND REPAIRED

MATERIAL HAVING A PLASTICITY INDEX OF 18 OR LESS AND
CONTAINING AT LEAST 15% FINES (MATERIALS PASSING THE NO. 200
SIEVE BASED ON DRY WEIGHT). FILL MATERIALS SHALL BE FREE OF
ORGANIC MATTER AND DEBRIS AND CONTAIN A MAXIMUM ROCK SIZE
OF APPROXIMATELY 3INCHES. ALL ON-SITE OR OFF-SITE MATERIALS
PROPOSED FOR USE AS FILL SHALL BE TESTED AND ACCEPTED PRIOR

GRADING NOTES:

1. REMOVE THE EXISTING SIDEWALK AND EXCAVATE TO EXPOSE THE
BASEMENT FLOOR, APPROXIMATELY 10 FEET IN DEPTH. STOCKPILE THE
EXCAVATED MATERIAL ONSITE. THE EXCAVATION SHALL BE SLOPED 1:1
PER OSHA SPECIFICATION.
2. BEAD BLAST BELOW GRADE CONCRETE SURFACES TO REMOVE
EXISTING COATING. A TEST SAMPLE MAY BE REQUIRED TO DETERMINE
IF ADEQUATE CLEANING RESULTS WERE OBTAINED, AT THE OWNERS
DISCRETION. ADDITIONAL CLEANING METHODS MAY BE REQUIRED TO
OBTAIN SATISFACTORY RESULTS.
3. REMOVE AND REPAIR CONCRETE SPALLS AND CRACKS. THE PERIMETER
OF THE DETERIORATED AREAS SHALL BE SAW CUT AND THE
DETERIORATED CONCRETE CHIPPED OUT WITH CHIPPING HAMMERS TO
SOUND CONCRETE, OR TO THE MAXIMUM DEPTH OF 2". THESE AREAS
SHALL THEN BE FORMED AND PATCHED BACK WITH BAG MIX REPAIR
MORTAR. ANY EXPOSED STEEL SHALL BE GROUND FREE OF RUST AND
COATED WITH ARMATEC ANTI-CORROSION COATING. THE
CONFIGURATION OF THE PATCH SHALL MATCH THE EXISTING AS CLOSE
AS POSSIBLE.
4. APPLY A COLD-APPLIED, WATERBORNE EMULSIFIED-ASPHALT
DAMPROOFING SYSTEM TO PREPARE BELOW GRADE CONCRETE
SURFACES. THE DAMPROOFING SYSTEM SHALL CONSIST OF:
A. (1) COAT OF TREMCO TREMPROOF 250GC, TROWELED ON SURFACE.
B. (1) 2ND OF TREMCO TREMPROOF 250GC, TROWELED ON SURFACE.
C. (1) LAYER OF FAN FOLDED POLYSTYRCNE FOAM PROTECTION BOARD
OVER THE SECOND COAT.
THE DAMPROOFING SYSTEM SHALL CURE FOR APPROXIMATLY (7) DAYS
PRIOR TO BACKFILLING.
5. BACKFILL WITH STOCKPILED MATERIAL IN LAYERS NOT EXCEEDING
EIGHT (8) INCHES. BACKFILL SHALL BE COMPACTED TO NO LESS THAN
95% STANDARD PROCTOR DENSITY. AFTER BACKFILL IS INSTALLED TO
OWNER'S SATISFACTION, CONSTRUCT NEW SIDEWALK.

Adopted as part of the OSU Tree Campus USA, Tree Care Plan
OSU TREE PROTECTION NOTES
Tree Protection Fencing will be put in place by Facilities Management Landscape Services prior to the start of Construction to protect tree trunks, canopies, and roots during the construction project. Fence removal will also be performed by OSU once construction is completed.
Panel Fencing will be constructed to keep tree roots and trunks protected. The area will be known as the “Tree Protection Root Zone”. Fencing must not be shifted, disturbed or removed during the construction. Any work around trees must be approved by OSU’s Urban Forester in advance.
Construction personnel must remain off limits in the fenced panel areas and keep the area clear of building materials, waste, excess soil, and porta potties. No trenching or other soil disturbances should be allowed in the fenced areas. The fence must not be moved during construction. MOWING and any other grounds maintenance needs inside the tree protection fencing will be performed by Facilities Management Landscape Maintenance Services. The ability to repair construction damage to trees is ineffective. The single most important action OSU can take is tree protection. Construction site visits will occur by Facilities Management Landscape Services staff to evaluate the tree protection efforts. Work will be stopped and fines assessed should guidelines not be practiced or damage occurs.
KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND WHEN WORKING AROUND TREES.
Tree roots are shallow.
