Time to start thinking of SPRING, or so they say anyway! March is almost upon us as I write this dissertation. Our February General Meeting was well attended with seventy-one members & wives showing up. An invocation prayer was done byChaplain, Rod Dimon with a moment of thought and reflection for departed Club member, Ted Sanborn. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife Ginger.

The monthly program guest speaker was Mr. Tom Waters of “In Stride”. A horse farm open for children with autism who may come and have therapeutic horse rides which improves the individuals strength & balance, coordination and awareness as well as confidence and social interaction. When one learned of the benefits these equine assisted children get, tears comes to your eyes. The second reading of our slate of officers running for election was read by Jack Sullivan, Chairman of the Nominating Committee. Mr. John McKeon was named as a candidate for Director. The slate reads as follows: George Nubile - President; Reggie Foote - Secretary; Jim McCarthy - Director; Gary Felker - Director; John McKeon - Director. Note that only two Directors will be elected out of three. Top two highest voted. Final reading will be March with elections at the April meeting. Installation will be at Breakfast At The Beach on April 14th with duties beginning May 1st .Ron Cournoyer of Royal Coachmen Resorts was on hand to receive their sponsorship plaque for being a Car Show Sponsor for 2018 and a continuing supporter of our Club. Ron spoke of their Annual Car Show taking place on March 16th, 9:00 - 3:00. Breakfast @7:30. Let’s get out and support them as usual. Thanks Ron and friends! On an unanimous vote by all members attending our general Meeting, it was determined that we will have a one time charge of $5.00 per attendee for Breakfast AtThe Beach. This is necessary because the social account did not do as well as previous year. Our 50/50 raffle winner was Don Horton who was so kind to donate $100.00 back to Club to bolster our social account. Thank You Don!Our 31st Annual Car Show on March 31st is humming right along. If you have any questions or would like to volunteer, please contact: Dennis Nubile or Rich Albrecht. I am told our Show is currently 50% sold out. I suspect we will be sold-out by mid March with cancellations only on show date. GREAT JOB TEAM !!As always this is YOUR Club. It works because of you. Let me know if I can help!

Historical Vehicle

The Armstrong-Siddeley Sapphire was produced from 1953 to 1958. The six-cylinder 209 cu in engine had hemi-spherical combustion chambers and with the optional twin Stromberg carburettors, which increased the output from 125 to 150 hp, had a top speed in excess of 100 mph. The front suspension was independent coil springs with a rigid axle and leaf springs at the rear. The Girling hydraulic brakes used 11 in drums all round. The body was available as a four or six window style at the same cost and with either a bench or individual front seats. The seats were finished in leather, with the dashboard and door-cappings in walnut veneer. A heater was standard. It was introduced with the choice of a Wilson electrically-controlled four-speed pre-selector or four-speed synchromesh transmission. It became available with automatic transmission with the introduction of the Mark II in 1954. Models for export to the U.S. were always delivered with twin carburettors. Photos courtesy of Auta 5P.
