Ahoy there, Mateys!“Shiver me Timbers.” The Black Spot. An X

on amapmarking buried treasure. Amanwitha wooden leg. Did you know that all of theseiconic images of pirate adventures werepopularized in Robert Louis Stevenson’s 1883novel? It is such a thrill to end our seasonwith this classic tale.

Set in the 1750’s, this coming-of-age storyhas been re-imagined for our contemporaryaudiences by director Robert Castro and hiswonderful team. Keeping the flavor of theoriginal, MainStreet’s production also addssome unexpected elements, which we hopewill resonate with our young audiences.

Those of you who are familiar with thebook and its countless film adaptations willrecognize memorable characters such as LongJohnSilver, BenGunnand thedreadedCaptainFlint. I hope that this version of Treasure Islandwill enthrall and surprise you. I encourage youto share your reactions with us through lettersor posts on our MainStreet Theatre CompanyFacebook page!

I also hope that you’ll join us again nextseason (our 5th!) for three more wonderfulstories. Starting with Lilly’s Purple PlasticPurse in October, the season continues withThe Gingerbread Man in January, and amusicaladaptation of Anne of Green Gables next May.These three shows are full of rich characterswho share an exuberant outlook on life, andwhose very different adventures lead themto understand the true meaning of loveand friendship.

But for now, get ready to join our talentedpirate crew for an adventure of a lifetime tothatmysterious island somewhere on theHighSeas, where treasure - and danger - waits!
