February! What happened to all those fall and early winter days whenwe planned to do work on Healeys? And where is my list of things to do? Do I need to order any parts? Oh, woe is me; I am behind again. BGAHC’s Springthing is just around the corner! In other words, it’s time to get moving! Bob Haskell, Ron Francis and I did our first good Healey deed. We moved my black Corvette powered Healey to the Haskell’s garage and Melanie wrote me a check! Now, the V-8 comes out, a few other things need to be done, and the Haskells should have a Healey on the road again. Bob thinks it might be awhile, but if he will get the tech sessions scheduled, we COULD have it done this year. Since everyone has leaned on Bob for so many items on their cars, it is time we returned the favor. If he does not getthe sessions scheduled, I have a few of my own to be done. How about yours? The Christmas Party held in January at the Hollyhock Family restaurant this year was a success. We would like your comments on the format. At least the work was lessened tremendously for those club members who al- ways seemed to do the lion’s share. News of a new Healey seemed to be pervading the internet mailings late-ly. As of today, a second company is in the picture and claiming to own the name Austin-Healey and that a new car could NOT use that name. Further progress on the Healey museum at VIR has also been reported. Conclave 2006 in Akron is approaching, and it will be the closest in years to us. We plan to attend, so how about a strong showing from our Club? Jim

Date and Place: 6:30 am, Feb 21, 2006 at Logan’s Roadhouse Attendees: Jim Alderson, Randy Belden, Roy Bowman, Ruth & Dick Buis, Jim Burck, Mike Clark, Karen Crask, Jim Frakes, Bruce Gilham, Dick Lutin, John Mann, Brent Porter, Dewey Poskon, Craig Rice, Dick Storrs. After a social hour and dinner, Jim Frakes called the meeting to order at 7:40 pm. Jim welcomed members and guests and introduced new attendees Mike Clark (100-6), Randy Belden (BJ8) and Dewey Poskon (BJ8). Several cars are in restoration, including Jim Alderson’s BJ8; his 100 is just finished. Bob Haskell has pur-chasd Jim Frakes’ BT7 and will remove the Corvette engine. (For Doug Bruce’s recent work see below.) Dec meeting minutes – were approved as published in OVERDRIVE. Treasurer/Membership – Craig Rice reported on our balance of funds and that he has renewed 59 mem-bers for 2006, with a few more expected to trickle in later. Delegates Report – no report Calendar – Our XMAS Party on Jan 14 at Hollyhock Hill restaurant had a nice turnout, and Jim Frakes’ Daytona party was held Sun, Feb 19th. Brent Porter is planning to attend Sebring this year. Jim discussed the schedule of future Healey events including the IBCU Karting Challenge, the Bluegrass Club’s Springthing, Marques on the Green in Louisville, Conclave 2006 in Akron, our Club’s SeptemberFest 2006 and the IBCU British Motor Days. (See our page 6 Calendar for dates of these upcoming events.) Other - Dick Lutin suggested a tech session at his company for Spring tune-up activity in late March. We adjourned about 8:40 pm. Our next meeting is Mar 21, at Santorini Greek Kitchen.

Right: Doug Bruce sent this beautiful image and the details of his recent BJ8 engine bay re-storation and extensive engine, transmission and overdrive rebuild: shaved head, lightened flywheel, oil cooler, cylinders bored out +30 thousandths, AE pistons, reprofiled cam to 265 deg duration, ported intake, and a complete engine balancing. No wonder he adds, “She runs like she never has !”

from the activities….. Christmas in January page 4 Only 354 shopping days ‘til Christmas!

Due to the dearth of suitable sites available this year, we held our Holiday Party on Jan 14th at Hollyhock Hill. Despite the timing, we attracted a large and joyful gathering of about 35 members and guests, who were especially attracted by the prospects of great fried chicken and shrimp, vegetables and mashed potatoes served family-style, followed by the usual festive fun of our gift exchange after dinner.

We billed this as a chili cook-off and Daytona race party, but only one couple brought chili – terrific as it was !So, we decided to call phone Jim and Karen Richmond to request they hurry over with their pot of chili. Jim reported that was tough task since he was in Boerne,Texas and hosting a Texas Bar-B-Q there at the Richmond ranch for their Healey club. They were also enjoying the race. In all, we were saved by the Buis' large, tasty, pot of Bar-B-Q meatballs, some great snacks of cheeses, salsas, tostitos, mixed nuts and of course, soft drinks, beer and wine. Ron Francis did the honors of mixing Margaritas for some folks, thanks to Karen Francis setting up all the fixings. Karen, while very sick, came over on Sunday am to decorate the house with chili decor. David Broyles brought his great home-made coffee ice cream which was well appreciated. An impromptu tech session prior to the race had Bob Haskell underneath my BJ8 taking off the clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder. As any good Healey club should, we just HAVE to tear something apart. Parts have been received from Healey Surgeons and should be installed this weekend, we hope. As for the race pool, Dick Buis won the $1 prize (?) for first out while Karen Crask got $41 for picking the race winner. Overall, a good race, no rain, ended up with sufficient food, and plenty of desserts, especially cookies, and a great time.
