OUR MISSIONThe YMCA of the East Valley is an association of people of all ages, ethnic groups, and religious affiliations founded on Christian principles and dedicated to building strong kids, strong families, and strong communities through programs that develop spirit, mind, and body.

OUR FOCUS

YOUTH DEVELOPMENT - The values and skills learned early on are vital building blocks for life. Because of the Y, more young people are making smarter life choices. Children and teens learn values and positive behaviors, and can explore their unique talents and interests, helping them realize their potential. That makes for confident kids today, and contributing and engaged adults tomorrow.

HEALTHY LIVING - Being healthy means more than simply being physically active. It’s about maintaining a balanced spirit, mind, and body. The Y is a place where you can work toward that balance by challenging yourself to learn a new skill or hobby, fostering connections with friends through our lifelong learning programs, or bringing your loved ones closer together through our many family-centered activities.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY - We know that when we work as one, we move people and communities forward. That’s why we are committed to providing support to our neighbors and opportunities for kids, adults and families to give, join in, or advocate in the name of stronger communities.

Our Y, Growing Together

This Annual Report showcases and highlights many achievements and successes. The theme “Our Y, Growing Together” expresses the excitement that our Association is experiencing. There is a sense of synergy as our Association seeks to make a deeper impact in our community. We have a deep tradition of providing quality and impact programs and services that strengthen the community. We continue that history by committing to our purpose, sprouting new programs, and encouraging families and youth to grow and blossom.

This past year we served over 40,800. These individuals are members or program participants. This number continues to grow year after year and indicates the commitment of staff and volunteers to impactful quality programs and services. Each of those individuals were encouraged to stretch, grow, develop, and care for others.

The YMCA fundraising efforts produced great results. Hundreds of volunteer campaigners raised over $410,000 for the Annual Campaign and over $2.6 million for the Cornerstone Capital Campaign. The Annual Campaign funds provide the YMCA experience to more than 14,700 families and youth. The Cornerstone Campaign funds are being used to finish the rejuvenation of the Redlands Family YMCA. The area that is being impacted was built in 1927 and needed some attention. These new facilities will allow the Y to provide new programs that will reflect a diversity of program offerings.

Our Y is empowering this community to grow stronger together. This report reflects the growth in tangible numbers as well as in spirit, mind and body. I’m proud to be part of this organization that makes a difference every day.

Estephen is 17 years old. He started at the Y because he heard we have a basketball gym; however, he stays for so much more. He loves the friendly service and that he doesn’t feel judged when he comes into the gym. He has found some of his greatest friends here, knows that he is always welcome, and enjoys seeing the variety of people that come through our doors. He loves that this is a family oriented place and he can’t get enough. He said all he wanted was to find a place to feel comfortable and train to get the body he wants.

$1,578,201 generous donations were made by 1,238 donors so that the Y could help open doors for others.

More than 410,000 was raised through our Annual Community Support Campaign to support our financial assistance program.

$517, 885 was awarded for financial assistance for memberships, programs, and child-care.

$58,933 was raised to assist the Legal Aid program and give financial assistance to participants, allowing a total of 918 people served.

194 weekly group exercise classes with an average of 3,123 participants weekly, making a average of 605,862 participants this year!

Encouraging Youth Wellness

In 2014, The Hernandez Family started attending the San Bernardino Y to get there kids out of the house and away from the television and video games. They felt at home immediately which has always been a struggle due to having a hard time finding their son Adrian a place to fit in due to special needs. Not only did they find a place for Adrian to fit in, they found a place where they can enjoy as a family. They started there Y experience in Ballet Folklorico and now are participating in dance, swim lessons, and yoga.

Strengthening FamiliesRyan first became a member for his health, he has gone through a hard time in his life and he knew he needed to lose weight because of his four children. He loved that he was able to bring his children while he worked out and they were all able to do something they loved and that he didn’t have to worry about them while they were in Kids Club. He believes in what we do and that he feels at home, but more importantly his children feel at home. Ryan says, “The YMCA is more than a gym or a place to take the children; it is a community that I get to be a part of!” “I love it here and appreciate everyone that also calls this place their home!”

Healthy Lifestyles

Brenda began attengoing to Bodypump, Step Aerobics, and Hardcore Abs twice a week – each. She credits the Y to her being able to lose over 100 pounds. “This place has helped me do things I never thought I could,” she said. “Everybody here is really helpful and really friendly – the atmosphere is awesome. Instructors take the time to know who’s new and help them out.” Brenda built positive relations that helped her stay motivated because everyone is working towards common goals. Meeting her fitness goals has driven her to set new and higher goals for her life. Brenda hopes that she, her triumphs, and her experience at the Y will help to inspire others. She loves when people come to her seeking encouragement and advice for healthy lifestyles.
