CentralThoughts for December 2018
1 The advent of our God
Shall be our theme for prayer; Come, let us meet him on the road
And place for him prepare. [The Advent of Our God, Lutheran Book of Worship, #22]
Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I am Pastor Kent Krumwiede, your Interim pastor, You can call me Pastor Kent or Pastor K, or P.K. What a wonderful time to be starting a new ministry…the beginning of a new church year…the season of Advent. As you might be aware, Advent comes from the Latin word adventus, meaning “coming” or “visit," Synonyms for Advent are arrival, appearance, emergence, materialization, occur-rence, dawn, birth, rise and development. This might actually be a very appropriate word and theme for our ministry together. With my arrival here, as interim, there will be a development, a rising up and perhaps a new birth of mission and ministry together along with the history and traditions of what is Our Savior and Central Lutheran Churches. If you have stories to share, please do not hesitate to stop by and share them. But let me share a little gloss of Lisa’s and my stories to shed a little light on us. I was raised on the family farm directly south of here about an hour. After high school, I spent a year at the University of South Dakota before enlisting in the Marine Corp. I attended Con-cordia College-St. Paul for my B.A. During that time Lisa and I married and had 4 sons. I spent a year and a half at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, MO. When we returned, I even-tually worked my way into retail management while Lisa received her LPN license. I also spent time in Nashville, TN, trying to break into writing and performing. Eventually, I found my way back into the seminary, this time at Luther in St. Paul. I spent six years in study for the ministry while I was interim at numerous congregations primarily up and down Hwy. 19. The last two years I had a call to the two-point parish of Peace-Grue at Ashby, MN. The last 34 years of Lisa’s history is wrapped up in mine. So briefly, Lisa was born in Glen-coe and then lived in Minneapolis and Robbinsdale. Her family is predominantly in the Green Isle/Arlington/Gaylord area. We are excited to be back in the area and I am looking forward to working and living among all of you. Please do not be shy about paying a visit to my office. My office hours* [that is, when I will definitely be in my office], beginning November 26
th, are
as follows: Mondays, 9-12 and 1-4; Tuesdays, 8-1; Wednesdays, 1-6 with Confirmation from 7-8:30; Thursdays, 9-1. Of course, if you want to see me at other hours, please, please call me and we will arrange a time more convenient for your schedule. * These hours are subject to change as Conference and Synod meetings require.
3
I have had some great visits with members at the Community Home last week. I look forward to visiting with others. I will be paying home visits as time allows with all the members [yes, I will call first]. These are for the purpose of getting to know the mem-bers and have conversation. I hope to attend as many of the GFW (by the way, we have two grandsons in 6
th and 2
nd grades in GFW) and Cedar Mountain school events
[concerts and sports] as time allows. Beyond that, see you all around town and at worship. Now, as the hymn says it,
“All glory to the Son, Who comes to set us free,
With Father, Spirit, ever one Through all eternity.” [The Advent of Our God, Lutheran Book of Worship, #22]
God’s blessings of joy, hope, love and peace, be yours this Advent and Christmas season.
In Christ,
Pastor Kent

Thank you to everyone at Our
Savior’s who donated to the
Renville County Food Shelf
Drive. Because of your generos-
ity we were able to give 64 lbs of
food and $682 to help out needy
families in our county!
BACK-THE-PACK IS BACK! Did you know that more than
220 children in our area may go to bed hungry? Renville
County Back-the-Pack is a non-profit group providing meals
to children throughout Renville County. The “Pack Shack” is
located in Olivia, this is the base of the operation where food
is stored and packed in bags to deliver to school districts.
School districts in our area include Cedar Mountain, GFW,
BOLD, BLH and RCW receive these bags. The meals provid-
ed include two breakfasts, two lunches and two snacks. The
cost per bag is $4 and weights 3.5 lbs or less. Food for the
bags are obtained from Second Harvest Heartland, local gro-
cery stores, and donations throughout the County. Funding
for the program comes from grants, individual donations,
businesses and churches.
Fairfax Lutheran Parish has committed to help pack the bags
on Tuesday mornings for the month of December 2018 and
again in the spring (more information will be posted). This is
a neat, easy assembly line packing already made bags.
Anyone interested? All you need to do is be at Our Savior’s
no later than 9:45 am on Tuesday, December 4, 2018, to car
pool to Olivia. No need to sign-up or call. Everyone is back
in Fairfax by noon, unless everyone stays for a tasty lunch at
the restaurant around the corner, then we would be back about
1:15. The other Tuesdays in December would be the 11 and
18 that we would also be packing the bags.
