Dear Parishioners: We start our new

journey with the Lord in this Liturgical Year: It’s LENT. The “Holy Lent”, as Saint Augustine used to define or call, is this precious time of reflection, conversion and encounter with the Lord.

Lent is a very appropriate time to meet the Lord in the Scripture, the sacrament of Reconciliation, the time of prayer and the personal sacrifices or offerings.

One great theme for reflection is found in the Gospel on this first Sunday of Lent. The Gospel is from St. Matthew, 4:1-11, which presents to us one of the central moments in our Lord's life; his forty days and nights of fasting followed by temptations.

As Fr. Kevin O'Sullivan, O.F.M on his Sunday Readings explains: ”the temptations, to which our Lord allowed himself to be submitted, are for us a source of encouragement and consolation. If our Lord and master suffered temptation, we cannot and must not expect to live a Christian life without experiencing similar tests and trials.

The three temptations Satan put to our Lord were suggestions to forget his purpose in life, his messianic mission of redemption. He was urged to get all the bodily comforts of life, all the self-glory which men could give him, and all the possessions and power this world has to offer.

Our basic temptations in life are the same: bodily comforts and pleasure, the empty esteem of our fellow man, wealth and power. There are millions of men and women on earth today, many of them nominal Christians, who have given in to these temptations and are wasting their lives chasing after these unattainable shadows. But should they even manage to catch up with some of them, they will soon find that they are empty baubles. They will have to leave them so very soon”.

My dear brothers and sisters, let us take this

Lenten Season in our hearts and with peaceful and prayerful attitude, elude the temptations in our lives.

In Christ, Fr. Edinson Ramírez

St. Aloysius Parish Mission Statement

St. Aloysius Parish is a Roman Catholic community

dedicated to celebrating the life and word of Jesus

Christ. All are welcome to deepen their spiritual and

personal lives through active participation in weekly

Liturgy, the celebration of the Sacraments, Parish

ministries and community activities. Acknowledging

our incompleteness and our need for God’s grace, we

commit ourselves, through Baptism, to responding to

God’s call to become and grow as disciples of Jesus

Christ in our time. Jesus Christ is at the center of all of

our lives.

We are once again preparing the annual tradition

of honoring those couples in our Archdiocese who

will be celebrating five, twenty-five and fifty

years of Christian marriage in the year 2017.

These anniversary liturgies will be celebrated by

Cardinal Joseph Tobin in the Cathedral Basilica

of the Sacred Heart in Newark as follows:

April 30, 2017 3:00 PM

5th & 25th Anniversary years

May 7, 2017, 3:00 PM

50th Anniversary (All counties)

It is our desire that every couple in the Archdio-

cese deserving of such recognition be present at the

appropriate liturgy. The presence of a large

number of couples will give favorable witness to

the strength and stability of Christian marriage

in today's society. Please register in person at

the rectory or by calling 973-226-0221.

!"#$%&'(!)*!

All women are invited to join Sr. Lena Picillo. OP on March 9, 2017 at 7pm – 8;30 pm in Saint

Aloysius Parish Center Sister will be speaking

about Women’s Issues beginning with basic human

rights. Sister Lena has worked for many years with

women who have been homeless and in need for

themselves and their families; those in battered

women’s shelters, as an advocate for women in

abusive situations and is on the response team for

immediate assistance for women. Most recently

Sister Lena has been very active in identifying

women in human trafficking situations. Other issues

include equality in salary, respect for women in

business situations, and the way in which people

speak when women are present. You can identify

even more. There are so many issues that need our

attention. The information Sister provides will enable

all of us to recognize the signs of problems and

difficulties and to whom we can go to get assistance

for women and perhaps become involved ourselves in

this ministry and speak up when necessary. Invite

other interested women to attend our evening.

GO GREEN!!!!

“Rather than be a problem to

be solved, the world is a joyful

mystery to be contemplated

with gladness & Praise.” (Pope Francis – Laudato Si)

Recently Pope Francis thanked

the members of the Catholic

Climate Movement Conference

for their efforts in caring for our common home – the

earth. He encouraged them to continue to respond with

determination to care for the earth and to hear the cry

of the poor in their local Churches. During our 125th

Anniversary year we would like to do just that. On

March 20, 2017 at 7:00 pm in the Parish Center all

interested parishioners are invited to attend our Parish

Green Team planning to share ideas

about how our Parish Community

can heed the words of Pope Francis!

Peace,

Sr. Suzy and Sr. Eleanor
